New Waste Removal contract to begin on Rose Barracks On July 1, a new waste removal contract begins on Rose Barracks. Because our waste receptacles are rented and belong to contractors, this will bring about an exchange of almost 4,000 refuse and recycling bins for on-post housing areas. Besides the change of contractors, there will be new procedures in the collection system to make recycling easier with one less container/pickup dates to worry about – and at the same time, make it more economical for the garrison. Here are the changes: ► The currently used 120-liter receptacles will be replaced by bins of 240-liter capacity. ► Pickups will be every two weeks instead of weekly – this means that your capacities per material remain the same. ► Metal cans (soda, food, fruit, etc.) and light metals, like aluminum trays, plates and foil, will go into the yellow bin, along with plastics. This saves the rental of 940 extra bins and one extra service round, thus our recycling goals are still met because plastics go to a sorting facility anyway. If you need to dispose of larger and heavier types of metals, please bring them to the recycling yard. How will the transition work out? ► Friday, 20 June – last service and removal of the blue bins (for metals) by the old contractor. After they are gone, please hold on to cans until Tuesday, June 24. ► Tuesday, 24 June – last service and removal of black (refuse) and yellow (plastics) bins and placement of the new 240-Liter black and yellow bins. ► Thursday, 26 June – last service and removal of green (paper) bins and swap with new 240liter green bins. How can you help? ► Please ensure that you have your current bins at the curb by 6 a.m. on scheduled days. ► Your new 240-liter bins will be labeled with building and apartment number. Please check that you take and use only the ones designated for you. The contractors will make every effort to make this transition as smooth as possible and with no loss in services. Please be patient if there is a time gap between removal of the old bins and delivery of new ones. You will get them. Call the SORT number (DSN 475-2600/Civ. 09662832600) if you have problems. Services under the new contract start Tuesday, July 1 with refuse (black bins).
