USAG Grafenwoehr Trick-or-Treating Hours: 5-8:30 p.m.

Halloween trick or treating hours have been extended from 5-8:30 p.m. for all on-post residents in Rose Barracks and East Camp, and the Netzaberg housing area. This is to accommodate the recently returned 2CR parents who have just completed a successful Saber Junction mission. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility with this change.

November is Warrior Care Month In honor of wounded and transitioning warriors, the garrison welcomes Dr. Rory Cooper, on 8 Nov. at 1 p.m. Dr. Cooper, a wounded vet, has spent his life working to improve technology for wounded warriors and conditions at VA hospitals. After Dr. Cooper gives his presentation, the VFW will provide a turkey and ham Thanksgiving meal.

Delays in mail delivery due to Hurricane Sandy Grafenwoehr and Rose Barracks Postal Service Centers will experience delays in the mail system over the next couple of days due to the inclement weather conditions caused by Hurricane Sandy. The JFK and EWR Airports closed on Monday, October 29th and are expecting to remain closed through Tuesday. This closure will impact outgoing mail on Monday and incoming mail on Wednesday and Thursday. Express, 1st Class Letters and any parcels coming from the East Coast are the items expecting to be delayed. Military Postal Service items (MPS) should not be impacted. As of this time the airports may reopen on Wednesday, depending on the effects of the storm. The PSCs are waiting further information from the Postal Operations Branch and will update the community as information becomes available. Please see your local Postal Operations Assistant for further assistance.

Nuremberg train station bans alcohol on weekends The Deutsche Bahn (DB) has banned alcohol in Nuremberg Main Station, from 8 p.m. - 6 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. The regulation is based on the owner’s right of the DB and amends the existing regulations.

COLA survey for service members This data is instrumental in updating OCOLA indices: https://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/oscola-lps-germany.cfm. *** The survey is for Service members who have been assigned to and have lived in Germany for 3 months or more and do not live in the barracks or dormitories.

USAG Grafenwoehr Trick-or-Treat safety tips USAG Grafenwoehr Trick-or-Treating Hours, 5-7 p.m. Avoid driving in housing areas during this timeframe!

Safety tips for all: * All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. * Escorts should conduct themselves in a safe and orderly fashion * Residents in leased or economy housing are encouraged to escort their children to the nearest military housing area to participate. * Trick-or-treaters are required to use flashlights, batteryoperated lanterns or Safety Light Sticks – the practice of carrying burning candles is prohibited! * Escorts should wear light-colored or reflective-type clothing. * All motorists are reminded to drive with extreme caution. Most of the Halloween costumes are dark in color and difficult to see. In addition, Halloween masks often limit the child’s vision. * Trick-ortreaters are encouraged to go to residences and stairwells that are well-lit. Residents who are participating should ensure that their porches or stairwell entrances are well-lit and kept free of obstacles – plan to present candy at the stairwell entrances.

Safety tips for kids: Cross only at corners. Never cross between parked cars. Walk facing oncoming traffic if there is no sidewalk. Always remove masks before crossing streets. Beware of cars turning into or backing out of driveways. Never go into a stranger’s house.

Safety tips for adults: Know the route your children will be taking. Make sure children are accompanied by an adult. Know what other activities a child may be attending, such as parties. Set time limits on when children should return home. Explain to children the difference between tricks and vandalism.

Instruct children not to eat treats until they return home and parents have had a chance to inspect those treats. Have a safe and happy Halloween!

Winter vehicle safety checks 1 Nov: The Grafenwoehr Auto Skills Center. Bldg. 528, is hosting a free vehicle safety check from 9-11 a.m. The checks include tires, lights, defrost, emergency kits and internal carbon monoxide readings.

Changes to Community Bus Schedules Starting 1 Nov: The government-operated buses between Grafenwoehr and Rose Barracks have slightly changed their schedules. The new bus schedule is attached. AKO account holders may also find the new schedules here: https://www.us.army.mil/suite/doc/37931572 Residents along route G-4 (Kemnath/Erbendorf/Pressath) will experience the most severe changes. While Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday continue with the current schedule, the runs on Wednesday and Friday start 75 minutes earlier in the morning and 30 minutes earlier in the afternoon to allow more time on post for appointments. Kristallnacht Memorial Ceremony 8 Nov: The community of Floss, along with the 18th CSSB, is holding a memorial for the victims of Kristallnacht. On Kristallnacht, or Night of Broken Glass, Nazis and Nazi sympathizers in Germany and Austria destroyed synagogues and Jewish businesses and attacked Jewish citizens. The memorial will be held at the Historic Synagogue at Rabbiner JosefSchwarz-Platz 1, 92685 Floss, from 3:30-4:14 p.m. ACUs or civilian attire. For more information, contact the 18th CSSB

Fingerprinting Services The USAG Grafenwoehr Security Office has decreased in staffing. Personnel requiring fingerprints for any reason (citizenship/naturalization, certifications, adoptions, permits, and security clearances) should contact their unit S-2. Unit S2s are trained to use the electronic fingerprint machines currently located in the garrison headquarters building. Civilian new hires, USAG Grafenwoehr-assigned Soldiers and their family members may obtain fingerprint services during walk-in hours (8-11:45 a.m.) in Building 500, Room 111. Please note, it is impossible to fingerprint while holding a child. Also, in case of sickness, please reschedule the appointment. Whenever possible, please contact your unit S-2 first. DA Photo studios appointments available The Department of the Army Photo studio located in Rose Barracks Bldg. 247 is renovated and now includes two studios.

Services members can schedule appointments at www.vios.army.mil in one of two studios by selecting either "DA Photo Studio 1" or "DA Photo Studio 2" from a drop down menu. In order to find the best available appointment time check the online appointment calendar. Mandatory direct deposit of retiree checks by 1 March 2013 A treasury mandate will soon require DFAS, Cleveland to pay retirees and annuitants by electronic funds transfer.

Beginning 1 March 2013, most retirees and annuitants will be required to receive their pay directly to their saving or checking accounts.

For retirees and annuitants living in Europe there are a couple of ways to start direct deposit:  For retirees and annuitants who have an American bank account and want to use that – complete a fast start direct deposit form, sign it and mail it DFAS. Ensure to keep a copy for your records.  Use your mypay account to set up a direct deposit to your american bank/credit union saving or checking account  Call DFAS at the customer care center at 888-332-7411 and have the information available to do it telephonically (American banks only).  For people who wish to use an international bank – use the international direct deposit form and ensure to include the IBAN number in place of the account number on the form and mail to dfas or provide to your local RSO for processing.

Grafenwoehr Consolidated Exchange Opens Doors to Local Vendors While the economy may have forced some retailers to scale back on merchandise or services, the Army & Air Force Exchange Service is actively seeking the assistance of local businesses to increase the product selection troops and their families find at their Exchange. “Some shoppers drive up to 40 miles or more to come to the Grafenwoehr Exchange,” said the Exchange’s General Manager Carl Carpenter. “The addition of local, small, minority, women- and veteran-owned businesses can help provide the diversity, value and innovation to further enhance their shopping experience.” Partner businesses, called concessions, operate in Exchange-provided space, primarily in the concession retail mall areas found in Hohenfels, Grafenwoehr, Rose Barracks and at the new Ansbach. Benefits include contracts based on a percentage of revenue, a variety of space and merchandising setups and the convenience of being located with the anchor retail store and food outlets. The Exchange will also assist in marketing and promoting partner businesses to help maximize awareness on and around installation name. Exchange Cutest Kiddo Contest The Army and Air Force Exchange Service is searching across the globe for the most adorable kid. Exchange shoppers can visit the Exchange’s Facebook page to upload a photo and enter the “3rd Annual Cutest Kiddo Contest.” The child with the most votes will receive a Disney Cruise Trip for four to the Bahamas plus a $500 Exchange Gift Card. Seven runners-up will each win an Exchange Gift Card valued up to $2,000. Photos must be submitted to the Exchange Facebook page by 11:59 pm CST on Nov. 8. Fans may vote for the picture they think is the cutest starting November 9th through December 6th. Winners will be announced on Dec.12 on the Exchange’s Facebook page. Christmas at the Exchange Through 20 Dec: Exchange shoppers won’t have to wait for December to start the holiday season as the Army and Air Force Exchange Service’s Facebook page is hosting the “12 Weeks of Gifting” contest. From NOW through Dec. 20, shoppers can count down the last 12 weeks until Christmas by entering to win different prizes each week. As the big day gets closer, prizes get bigger and better. Each week’s giveaway is a secret, so shoppers can visit the Exchange Facebook page each week to enter. Much like the “Twelve Days of Christmas”, each week will have a corresponding number of prizes. For example, week 12 will have 12 winners, week 11 will award 11 gifts, while week one has one, the grand prize.

Good grades pay off at the Grafenwoehr Exchange The Army & Air Force Exchange Service rewards military students who excel. Students who receive a report card with a “B” average or better can choose an array of free and discounted products through the Grafenwoehr Exchange’s “You Made the Grade” program. Now in its 12th year, “You Made the Grade” includes a free Burger King hamburger kids meal, Subway 6-inch combo, a magazine of their choice and even a complimentary haircut. Students “making the grade” can also register for a drawing to win a $2,000, $1,500 or $500 Exchange gift card. To receive a “You Made the Grade” booklet, eligible students present a valid military ID and proof of a “B” or better average to the Grafenwoehr Exchange.

Students may receive one coupon package for every qualifying report card, but may enter the gift card drawing only once per grading period.

Grafenwoehr main store shuttles increase selection Rose Barracks and Hohenfels: The Army & Air Force Exchange Service is delivering increased selection, savings and service with its “Shuttle Program.” To ensure military families around Grafenwoehr enjoy the same selection, merchandise can be shuttled to those in Rose Barracks and Hohenfels per customer requests at the customer service counter found at their local Exchange. Everything from furniture to tactical gear can be transferred through the “Shuttle Program.” If a customer doesn’t see what they’re looking for, they can ask an Exchange manager if the item can be shipped from

another location. The “Shuttle Program� is a free service at all Exchanges around the world. Ask your customer service associates for details.

Volunteers and other help needed FCC providers needed Interested in earning money from home and making a difference in the lives of military children and families? Army Child, Youth & School Services, Family Child Care (FCC) Program is looking for on-post and off-post FCC home providers that are dedicated to delivering high quality, emotionally secure and educational child care to our military and qualifying DOD family members. You must live in government - leased housing. Benefits include: federal subsidies, free initial and ongoing training, and the use of materials and equipment to set up your home. New Provider Orientation will be hosted on April 25-27 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Building 224 in Rose Barracks. Training will be held in the conference room.

SKIES Instructors Needed The SKIES Unlimited program in the USAG Grafenwoehr is looking for dedicated instructors in a variety of programs.

Current focus is on gymnastics, dance and music programs. Attn. Soldier Athletes Soldiers in Europe wanting to compete in higher level sports program must now go online with a new application site. The site is: https://apps.imcom.army.mil/apptrac.Female and male Soldier athletes and coaches can be selected and tryout for 29 sports that lead to All-Army, armed forces, world military (CISM) and even the Olympics. Soldier athletes must apply for selection into the program. Commander’s approval will be mandatory before being considered by All-Army staff.

Soldiers have been competing or coaching on every U.S. Olympic team since 1948. Soldiers have medaled in shooting, basketball, wrestling, boxing, weight lifting, track and field, equestrian and modern pentathlon.

Thirty-one Soldiers earned eight gold and six silver medals in a wide variety of competition dating back to 1948.

Depending on the sport and event, selected Soldiers may complete up to one to three months depending on the sport.

Soldiers when they return to their units are in better physical shape than when they left and are more motivated than when they went off to the training camp. Facility & Road/Openings/Construction/Closures Rose Barracks Vilseck Community Bank Renovation The Rose Barracks Vilseck Community Bank will be renovated in Bldg. 224 starting mid September for a 3-4 month period. In the meantime, banking services to the Vilseck military community will be provided in Bldg 164, near the Warrior Transition Unit. Signs will be posted, directing customers to the new location. Business Hours remain unchanged for the

The Grafenwoehr Health Clinic, new hours Starting 1 Oct: The Grafenwoehr Health Clinic is changing its opening hours to 7 a.m. to facilitate Soldiers in morning formation. The change will allow the clinic staff to better meet their access goals for the community.

Rose Barracks post office minor construction Through 2 Nov: The Mailroom lobby of the Rose Barracks Postal Service Center is undergoing some construction at the front customer entrance. The entrance has been temporarily closed due to installing a drain by the door which should increase the safety of our customers during the winter months. Work should be completed by Friday. Customers should enter and exit the lobby through the electronic doors located further down the side of the building. Preschool Child Find is a developmental screening for children ages 3-5 identifying children with developmental delays or other special education needs.

For children under age 3 please contact EDIS at 09662-833221.

What is the process? A Child Find team made up of the preschool special needs service provider, speech and language pathologists and the occupational therapist screen the children for developmental delays. These free screenings take place monthly.

How does it work? Parent submits the Child Find questionnaire (which they can pick up in the office or find on the school website); they are set up with an appointment for the screening. When they come in for the screening the child must first pass a vision and hearing screen by our school nurse. Then they are screened by the team. If the child is suspected of having any delays the team will refer them for further formal evaluation.

Why is it important? When learning challenges are identified at a young age, early intervention can help the child with learning tasks.

If parents are interested, what do they need to do? They can go to the school’s website and find the link for Child Find.

Under that link is a questionnaire they need to fill out and email back to the email address provided on the form. Someone will be in contact with them within 48 hours. All Saints Day holiday 1 Nov: All German stores and authorities are closed, and the local national workforce will be off.

Traditionally, this is the day in Germany when relatives visit the graves of their dearly departed, so you might see a lot of activity in the afternoons on the cemeteries. The graves will have been cleaned and decorated specially for this day, for the last time before winter sets in. Usually in the afternoons, masses will be held and the graves, along with the dearly departed, will be blessed by the priest. Every year, nearly 100 German citizens surrounding USAG Grafenwoehr gather to celebrate All Saints Day at the graveyards on post where the towns of Langenbruck and Haag used to be. This year, they will meet on 4 Nov. at 2 p.m. for their observance.

You only pay the entrance fee for the church: 2 Euros for adults; 0.50 Euros for students, pupils; groups from 10 person: 1.50 Euros. No reservation necessary! Duration: ca. 45 minutes. Meeting Point: front row inside the church.

Every Saturday: 8 p.m. Guided Tour in English with the Night-Watchman in 91541 Rothenburg on Marktplatz = Market Place. Take a walk back in time with the Night-watchman through the romantically-lit streets of Rothenburg.

Meeting point is on Market Square, the tour lasts about 60 minutes. Fee is 7 Euros per person, payable in cash to the Night-watchman.
