Winter Driving Course For all those new arrival in Germany or for anyone who is uncomfortable driving in winter conditions and ice, the garrison is offering Winter Driving Courses. The course is design to educate drivers on the dangers of driving in snow/ice and to give tips on handling sliding or out of control vehicles. If your unit/organization is interested in this training, please contact William Whitman via email. Classes will alternate between the Vilseck Army Airfield and the Grafenwoehr Motor Pool #5.

ASBP Blood Drive 10 Sept: The blood drive that was canceled in August has been rescheduled for Sept 10 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Tower Barracks USO. All the blood donated will stay within the military community. We’d like everyone who can donate to come out and give blood, but there are some restrictions on who can donate: ***TATTOOS and permanent make-up acquired OUTSIDE the US is a one year deferral*** If you had a tattoo in any of the following listed States, you may “NOT” donate and must wait 12 months to donate. All other US States (not listed) are acceptable one week after acquiring the tattoo. 12-MONTH WAIT: California, Connecticut, District Of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Utah, Wyoming YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DONATE BLOOD IF: • You have a cold, flu or fever • You have had acupuncture in the past 12 months • You weigh less than 110 pounds • You traveled to Iraq, Eastern Turkey, Afghanistan or western provinces of Saudi Arabia (excluding the high altitude areas of Asir Province and the urban areas of Jeddah, Mecca, Medina, Riyadh, and Taif/ Prince Sultan Airbase) in the last year • Within the last 2 years, you traveled to South Korea and were north of Seoul at any time including the DMZ Tour (provide specific dates) • You spent 3 months or more in the United Kingdom from 1980-1996 (Related to BSE time) • You spent six months or more at a military installation in Belgium, Netherlands (Holland), or Germany from1980-1990 • From 1980-1996 for all other European Countries including the UK • You have lived in Europe for five years or more since 1 January 1980 to present

Patriot’s Day events 11 Sept: To honor those lost on 9/11, the BMC is holding a series of events on this year’s Patriot’s Day: 5K “Freedom Run.” 6 a.m. at the Tower Barracks Physical Fitness Center. Prayer Breakfast. 8 a.m. at the Rose Barracks Chapel, Bldg. 218. Memorial/Wreath Laying Ceremony. 2:30 p.m. in front of 623 in Tower Barracks. Moment of Silence. 2:46 p.m. The entire BMC will observe a moment of silence at the time the first plane flew into the World Trade Center. On 12 Sept. there will be a “Ride to Remember” at 6 a.m. at the Tower Barracks PX overflow lot. Members of the Tower and Rose Barracks communities are welcome to bring their bicycles for a morning bike ride. The uniform for Soldiers is Summer PT with jacket, reflective belt and helmet.
TARP, SETA, OPSEC and Anti-terrorism Level 1 training The United States Army Garrison Grafenwoehr (Antiterrorism and Security Divisions) along with the 66th Military Intelligence Group and JMTC Intelligence and Security, will be conducting the quarterly Community Security Awareness Training consisting of the Threat Awareness and Reporting Program (TARP), Security Education Training Awareness (SETA), Operation Security (OPSEC), and Anti-terrorism Level 1 Refresher Training. 4th Quarter Community Security Awareness Training Schedule: 18 Sept: Tower Barracks, Tower Theater, Bldg. 620. 10:30-11:30 a.m. (LN employees), 1:30-4 p.m. (US personnel) 19 Sept: Rose Barracks, Post Theater, Bldg. 354. 9-11:30 a.m. (US personnel), 1:30-2:30 p.m. (LN employees) This training is a mandatory annual requirement for all DoD personnel including Military, AF/NAF (both US and LN); U.S. Contractor employees are welcome.
InfoExpo.13 24 Sept: Do you know how to book an MWR trip to Budapest, or how to get a fishing license in Germany? At this year’s InfoExpo.13, come find out what recreational resources are available for Soldiers and families on and off post. At the Expo, you can also play poker with the Warrior Zone or test your game hunting skills at the shooting simulator. The InfoExpo.13 will be at the new Outdoor Recreation Complex near Dickhaeuter Lake, directly following its Grand Opening. Earlier that day at Tower Barracks Bldg. 500, USAG Grafenwoehr’s name will officially be changed to USAG Bavaria. It’s a big day! InfoExpo.13: 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Positive discipline seminar 26 Sept: Come join the Special Needs Advisory Council (SNAC) for a seminar and interactive event that focuses on ways to positively shape your child’s behavior. There will be food, a "make and take" craft for parents (with a positive behavior theme), and crafts and games for children. There will also be an information table available with materials covering positive behavior shaping strategies. Community Huddle 26 Sept: The Community Huddle is a bi-monthly, Town Hall style meeting, hosted by Garrison Commander COL James Saenz, for all community members to ask questions to civilian and military leadership and to find out the latest information on programs, events, construction, and other important issues happening in the community. The next Community Huddle will be in the Tower View Inn on Thursday, 26 Sept, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Bulk Trash Pickup – County of Neustadt 23 Sept: City Grafenwoehr 28 Oct: Mantel and Steinfels 4 Nov: Netzaberg & City Eschenbach (North of B 470 & South of B 470) Curbside, in front of your home. Bulk Trash has to be out on curbside NLT 6 a.m. Pick-up is provided by contractors of the County Neustadt.
What will be picked up? Everything, that is too big or too heavy to go into the normal refuse container, such as: Furniture, mattresses, carpets, washing machines, dryers, radios, TVs, ovens, stoves, bicycles, strollers, and other items which cannot be dismantled, torn or broken down to a size that would fit in the regular refuse container. Each single item should be no larger than 80x40x32 inches and should not be heavier than 110 lb. Bulk trash consisting of metal (i.e. bicycles, washers, dryers, stoves, etc.) and electronic equipment (such as large appliances, small appliances, cooling devices, information & telecommunications including entertainment equipment) should be put out separately next to the normal bulk trash. What will not be picked up? - Normal refuse, recyclable material, Yard waste like cut grass, branches, etc... - Hazardous waste - Tires, car parts, batteries, wrecked cars, motorcycles - Doors and windows (with or without glass), laminated floor, rouleaus - Construction debris - Night storage heaters Pick ups will be performed in three steps: 1. Combustible material: like upholstered furniture, mattresses, rugs, etc... 2. Electronic equipment: i.e. TV, PC, printer, scanner, radio, VCR, DVD player, monitor, vacuum cleaner, refrigerators and freezers (no permission sticker required anymore), etc… together with Household Metal items: i.e. bicycles, ironing boards, washer, dryer, dishwasher, stoves (oil stoves and oil barrels must be totally emptied) etc… 3. Salvageable wooden furniture: (i.e. bed frame, wardrobe, chair, table, etc….) Smaller electronic appliances (i.e. hairdryer, toothbrush, telephones, drilling machine etc.) should be brought to the drop off point “Company Bergler” in Weiherhammer, Etzenrichter Str. 2, Mon.-Fri. from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. hour, CIV 09605-92090. Ammunition Community Amnesty Day 8 Oct: If you know of ammunition or weapons that need to be turned in, drop them off at the next Ammunition Supply Point (ASP) #1 Community Amnesty Day for ammunition and explosives (A&E). From 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m., come to the Unit Entrance of Ammunition Supply Point #1. Simply approach the gate and let the ASP personnel know that you have amnesty to turn in. They will take it from you on a “No Questions Asked” policy.

Exchange News Rose Barracks Exchange new closing hours on Sunday There are new closing hours for the Rose Barracks Furniture Store and Food Court. The facilities will close at 6 p.m. throughout the week. Popeyes and Charley’s will close at 5 p.m. on Sundays. Anthony’s Pizza will close at 6 p.m. on Sundays.
Office Source to close 1 Oct: Starting 1 Oct, the Grafenwoehr Office Source will close. Units and facilities must order their Self Service Supply Center (SSSC) through the new online Warehouse Ordering Web (WOW) program and the order is delivered to an Exchange store nearest to the customer for pick-up. See your local Exchange for details.
TKS switch from analog to digital AFN analog signal to the barracks has been switched to a digital signal. In order to receive the digital signal, Soldiers will need to rent a digital receiver from TKS for 11.84 Euro/month or 9.95 Euro/month without the VAT. For additional fees up to 80 euro, TKS will add other channels. Please visit TKS in the Exchange on Tower Barracks for more info.

Seeking Emergency Placement Care Providers The children in the USAGG need you. The Emergency Placement Care (EPC) Program trains individuals to become 24 hour providers for at risk children. The community is in need of more providers as the number of children in imminent danger increased due to the deployment rotation of family members. Bayern Rangers hockey team looking for players 4 & 8 Sept: The Bayern Rangers ice hockey team is looking for new players. Passport to Manhood Starts 5 Sept: Passport to Manhood promotes and teaches responsibility in boys ages 11 to 14. The program consists of 14 sessions, each concentrating on a specific aspect of character and manhood through highly interactive activities. The program includes a service project where boys learn the importance of giving back to the community. Passport to Manhood is an effort to engage young boys in discussions and activities that reinforce character, leadership and positive behavior. School News VFW Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy scholarships Deadline 1 Nov: The VFW has two scholarships available for high school and middle school students. Students in 6-8th grade are eligible for the Patriot’s Pen scholarship. Forty-six applicants will win scholarships ranging from $500-5,000. This year’s essay theme is “What Patriotism Means to Me.” You can find the application guidelines and form here. High schoolers are eligible for a $30,000 scholarship and $1,000-16,000 scholarships. Vilseck Elementary School Vilseck Elementary School administrators and faculty wish all of our students and their parents a safe and enjoyable summer. Students, don’t forget to keep reading and do some math, and by all means enjoy being outside and playing in and around Germany. Child Find: What is child-find screening? Preschool Child Find is a developmental screening for children ages 3-5 identifying children with developmental delays or other special education needs. For children under age 3 please contact EDIS at 09662-83-3221. What is the process? A Child Find team made up of the preschool special needs service provider, speech and language pathologists and the occupational therapist screen the children for developmental delays. These free screenings take place monthly. How does it work? Parent submits the Child Find questionnaire (which they can pick up in the office or find on the school website); they are set up with an appointment for the screening. When they come in for the screening the child must first pass a vision and hearing screen by our school nurse. Then they are screened by the team. If the child is suspected of having any delays the team will refer them for further formal evaluation. Why is it important? When learning challenges are identified at a young age, early intervention can help the child with learning tasks. If parents are interested, what do they need to do? They can go to the school’s website and find the link for Child Find. Under that link is a questionnaire they need to fill out and email back to the email address provided on the form. Someone will be in contact with them within 48 hours. If they do not hear back please contact the school at 09662 832812 and let them know what happened. Horse Appreciation Day with activities for kids 8 Sept: 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Oberpfälzer Freilandmuseum (open-air museum) in Neusath 200 (part of 92507 Nabburg, ca. 31 km / 19 miles south of Weiden). The incredibly popular Horse Appreciation Day centers (not surprisingly) around horses. The day starts at 9:30 a.m. with a trek to the Raiffeisenhalle (on site) from all directions, where a festive mass is held at 10 a.m. to bless all horses and riders. Starting at 11:15 a.m., you can get carriage rides around the museum area, and kids can ride on friendly ponies. At midday, six horses, will draw a carriage filled with kegs of beer which will then be tapped. In the afternoon, you can watch cold-blood horses pulling trees and working on the fields. At the "Zielheimer Schmiede" (see map) You will see old equipment that was pulled by horses, and in the afternoon there's an equestrian show on the meadow south of the "Waldlerdorf". An agility contest and rides in horse-drawn carriages for the visitors are offered as well. A festive parade through the whole area will conclude the fest at ca. 4 p.m.Admission (only GE) is € 4.50 pp, a family ticket for the day is € 11.
Historic Shepherds Dance (Historischer Schäfertanz) 8 Sept: 11:30 a.m., in 91541 Rothenburg on Marktplatz around the Rathaus = City Hall. Click for a map of car parks around the historical Altstadt. Especially in the Middle Ages, sheep farming and the wool trade played an important part in the life of the town. In 1517, the Shepherds Guild was granted the privilege of celebrating Shepherds Dance with music and dancing. More about the origins of this tradition can be seen in the Shepherds Dance Cabinet in St.-Wolfgang'sChurch. In remembrance of this custom, visitors have several opportunities every year to see the dance with the colourful costumes in the market square. Weiden’s Fall Festival 14 Sept: 9 a.m.-6 p.m. in downtown Weiden. A number of shops, stands and entertainment will offer colorful attractions with the theme “Bavarian-Italian.” Starting at 9 a.m., PRO WEIDEN will host a Weisswurst and beer breakfast at Oberer Markt square with Zoigl. At noon, food stands throughout the downtown area will sell Bavarian and Italian food. Music and dancing performances will take happen on the PRO WEIDEN stage in front of the Altes Rathaus. There are also kids games and a kids’ flea market at 2 p.m. at the Unterer Markt square.
