Spouses invited to discussion with senior leadership 12 March: All USAG Grafenwoehr family members are invited and encouraged to attend a family member focus discussion. Senior leadership will formally discuss the Army’s Ready and Resilient Campaign (R2C) Plan as directed by the Chief of Staff of the Army. The intent is to meet with Army personnel and their spouses throughout the Grafenwoehr area. Tower View Conference Center, Grafenwoehr Bldg. 209 at10:45-11:45 a.m. The discussion will be in the Eisenhower’s-Lee room.

Energy Conservation Hotline updates Due to the Energy Conservation Hotline and input from members of the community, we have received a number of suggestions of how USAG Grafenwoehr can cut energy costs. Here are some suggestions the garrison have followed up on and taken steps to address:    

Turning off the scoreboard at VHS when it is not in use.

Installing motion sensors for carports in on-post housing.

Turning off the fans in the Rose Barracks DFAC. Disabling half the lights in Grafenwoehr Bldg. 206 to use half the energy.

Cut in office cleaning services Due to new fiscal realities, we must cut costs or we will be forced to cut family services. As such, we will be cutting the cleaning contract for administrative offices on East Camp and Rose Barracks from once per week to twice per month. It is recommended that directors talk with their staff to make plans to remove trash and keep their work areas clean.

This change will not affect common area customer service locations or common use restroom service, but will save the garrison significant funds over the next year. These savings can then be funneled into maintaining high traffic areas around the garrison.

Army One Stop/ICE KIOSK to be set up throughout the garrison To improve your ability to provide feedback to the Garrison, several Army One Stop/ICE KIOSKs will be installed throughout East Camp and Rose Barracks, with one at USAG Hohenfels. Within the next 40 days, you can access a KIOSK at the following locations: - East Camp Exchange, Lodging, Community Mailroom, Bldg 244 main lobby, and Vehicle Registration waiting area - Rose Barracks PXtra, ACS, Multi Purpose Center and the Warrior Zone. The KIOSKs provide access to the ICE online, AKO, DFAS, TRICARE, and other approved sites that provide tools and information for our Soldiers, Civilians and Families. All BMC customers will still be able to access ICE from any computer or smart phone and we will continue to provide ICE comment boxes in select locations. New DPW Self-Help Store guidelines In an effort to better control the costs of issuing items from the Self-Help Store, DPW asks the community to abide by these procedures:  Authorized customers requesting toilet seat, towel holder and toilet paper holder assemblies need to bring in and exchange their old item to be issued a new one.  Customers getting paint for their personal quarters will be limited to two plastic paint containers. Those who need more paint for their project, will have to return to the Self-Help Store to request it once they have used up the paint they’ve already been issued.  Authorized customers requesting Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs) must bring in an old bulb/CFL to get a new one. Exchanging the old bulb/CFL ensures that the customer gets the correct CFL and that the old bulb/CFL is properly disposed.

Free tax preparation at the Tax Center The Grafenwoehr and Rose Barracks Tax Centers is open for business from 9 a.m. – noon and 1 – 4 p.m. to prepare free tax returns Soldiers and eligible civilians. All returns are completed by IRS VITA-certified Soldier and civilians. In Grafenwoehr, the Tax Center is located in Bldg. 216 on the 1st floor. In Rose Barracks it’s in Bldg 245, 1st floor. Bulk Trash Pickup County of Neustadt 18 March: Netzaberg & City Eschenbach (North of B 470) 18 March: City Eschenbach (South of B 470) 14 May: Mantel & Steinfels Curbside, in front of your home. Bulk Trash has to be out on curbside NLT 6 a.m. Pick-up is provided by contractors of the County Neustadt.

What will be picked up? Everything, that is too big or too heavy to go into the normal refuse container, such as: Furniture, mattresses, carpets, washing machines, dryers, radios, TVs, ovens, stoves, bicycles, strollers, and other items which cannot be dismantled, torn or broken down to a size that would fit in the regular refuse container. Each single item should be no larger than 80x40x32 inches and should not be heavier than 110 lb. Bulk trash consisting of metal (i.e. bicycles, washers, dryers, stoves, etc.) and electronic equipment (such as large appliances, small appliances, cooling devices, information & telecommunications including entertainment equipment) should be put out separately next to the normal bulk trash.

What will not be picked up?

- Normal refuse, recyclable material, Yard waste like cut grass, branches, etc...

- Hazardous waste - Tires, car parts, batteries, wrecked cars, motorcycles - Doors and windows (with or without glass), laminated floor, rouleaus - Construction debris - Night storage heaters Pickups will be performed in three steps: 1. Combustible material: like upholstered furniture, mattresses, rugs, etc...

2. Electronic equipment: i.e. TV, PC, printer, scanner, radio, VCR, DVD player, monitor, vacuum cleaner, refrigerators and freezers (no permission sticker required anymore), etc…

Together with Household Metal items: i.e. bicycles, ironing boards, washer, dryer, dishwasher, stoves (oil stoves and oil barrels must be totally emptied) etc…

3. Salvageable wooden furniture: (i.e. bed frame, wardrobe, chair, table, etc….)

Smaller electronic appliances (i.e. hairdryer, toothbrush, telephones, drilling machine etc.) should be brought to the drop off point “Company Bergler” in Weiherhammer, Etzenrichter Str. 2, Mon.-Fri. from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., CIV 09605-92090.

Community Huddle 21 March: The Community Huddle is a bi-monthly, Town Hall style meeting, hosted by Garrison Commander COL James Saenz, for all community members to ask questions to civilian and military leadership and to find out the latest information on programs, events, construction, and other important issues happening in the community. The next Community Huddle will be in the Multi-Purpose Center, Bldg. 134, on Rose Barracks on Thursday, 21 March from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Estate Claim Anyone who has a claim or obligation to the estate of SPC Bradley P. Rogers of the 172nd Infantry Brigade, 2nd Battalion 28th Infantry Regiment, should contact the Summary Court Officer, 1ST Lieutenant Dustin D. Miner at DSN 475-9775, CIV 09641-83-9775. This statement is an Estate Claim for a Soldier who died in our community and per Army regulation an Estate Claim statement needs to be publicly posted to allow people who may have a claim to contact the Summary Court Officer. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month 3 April: Sexual Assault Awareness Month kicks off with SHARP Stand-Down Day on 3 April. During this day, there will be a screening of the renowned documentary, “Invisible War,” a Terrain Walk, Lead-to-Led discussions, “Take Back the Night” silent victim walk and an interactive performance at GPAC., the garrison will be saluting sexual assault awareness throughout the entire month. More details to come.

Army Emergency Relief program 1 March-15 May: All Units within Bavaria Military Community Grafenwoehr geographic footprint are requested to provide an AER Representatives. There will be a special training session for all AER unit representatives on 26 Feb at 10 a.m. in Grafenwoehr Bldg. 533. TARP, SETA, OPSEC, and Anti-terrorism Level 1 Training Community Security Awareness Training consisting of the Threat Awareness and Reporting Program (TARP), Security Education Training Awareness (SETA), Operation Security (OPSEC), and Anti-terrorism Level 1 will be conducted by USAG Grafenwoehr and JMTC. This training is a mandatory annual requirement for all DoD personnel including Military, AF/NAF (both US and LN); U.S. Contractor employees are welcome.

Exchange IT Scheduled System Outage 10 March: Due to system maintenance and upgrades, customers will not be able to load funds on their ESSO fuel card accounts, new fuel cards or replacement cards cannot be issued, and tax free gas purchases will not be possible at the local ESSO Stations, from 5 a.m.-11 a.m. Anyone using off-post ESSO stations during this time period will pay full local national price for their fuel purchases. Exchange Gas Stations will remain open during the system outage but pre-paid will not be available as a payment option.

New on post high-speed internet service this summer The Exchange and TKS are introducing a new, high-speed internet option on post. Anyone interested in the new service must first have a router installed, a process that takes 15 minutes. For more information, click here.

‘Salad Wednesday’ at Exchange restaurants Exchange restaurants are offering $2 off any salad priced $4 or more every Wednesday. Now, when picking up a salad at Subway, Burger King or Charley’s on Wednesdays, guests can save money and eat well at the same time. “Salad Wednesdays” are part of the Exchange’s Operation BEFIT initiative to promote health and wellness through fitness and diet.

3-D movie capability comes to Grafenwoehr and Rose Barracks On 6 March, the Grafenwoehr Theater will play Jack the Giant Slayer in 3-D at 7 p.m. The Rose Barracks Theater is already playing 3-D films. Hohenfels theater is planned for late spring/ early summer 2013. 3-D movies will cost $7.50 for

everyone and will include 3-D glasses which can be recycled or taken home for later use. Customers are welcome to bring their own 3-D glasses. Movies not played in 3-D will cost the same as before. USAG Grafenwoehr Shoppette to limit alcohol sales The Grafenwoehr, Netzaberg and Rose Barracks Shoppettes will no longer sell alcohol from 2-7 a.m. Customers will be unable to purchase any Class Six (beer, wine or spirits) during these hours. Volunteers and other help needed FCC providers needed Interested in earning money from home and making a difference in the lives of military children and families? Army Child, Youth & School Services, Family Child Care (FCC) Program is looking for on-post and off-post FCC home providers that are dedicated to delivering high quality, emotionally secure and educational child care to our military and qualifying DOD family members. You must live in government - leased housing. Benefits include: federal subsidies, free initial and ongoing training, and the use of materials and equipment to set up your home. SKIES Instructors Needed The SKIES Unlimited program in the USAG Grafenwoehr is looking for dedicated instructors for piano, string instruments and gymnastics. The music positions require the individual to be subject matter experts in the area they are teaching and gymnastics instructors must have experience in tumbling, gymnastics apparatuses and/or acrobatics to teach entry and intermediate gymnastics. Grafenwoehr Girl Scouts looking for scouts and volunteers Attention Scouts! Grafenwoehr Girl Scouts serves girls from Kindergarten through 12th grade in USAG Grafenwoehr.

We foster leadership in our girls through activities, events, and community service opportunities at the troop and committee level. Girl Scouts is also recruiting 9th -12th grade girls to be a part of the virtual troop that travels and attends high school-level events. Scouts even have the opportunity to win the Girl Scout Gold Award, which opens doors for scholarship money post-graduation.

Attention volunteers! The Girl Scouts are looking for leaders and co-leaders and management team members. For those who have a skill but can't make a full-time commitment, the Scouts are always looking for subject matter expert in all fields. Knitting, auto mechanics and maintenance, culinary arts, art, science, technology, mathematics, languages... just donating 3 hours of your time to offer a course to our girls can change their lives. Volunteers needed at the USO Grafenwoehr If you'd like to help your USO, the military and their family members, come by the USO center in Grafenwoehr Bldg. 150 and sign up to volunteer. Health and Safety Instructors: Volunteers teach lifesaving skills in the community. Classes such as Babysitting, CPR, First Aid, AED and other safety presentations.

Armed Forces Caseworkers: Volunteers work with local members of the military and their families ensuring the delivery of emergency communications.

Health Fair Volunteers: Volunteers staff a table at events in the community and engage those attending in conversations about preparedness and safety.

Seeking Emergency Placement Care Providers The children in the USAGG need you. The Emergency Placement Care (EPC) Program trains individuals to become 24 hour providers for at risk children. The community is in need of more providers as the number of children in imminent danger increased due to the deployment rotation of family members. Circus Krone in Munich 23 March: Circus Krone – which has 400 employees, 250 animals and the world’s largest tent (with a capacity of 5,000 person capacity) – is the largest circus in Europe. Rose Barracks Housing Office moving to Grafenwoehr By 15 March: The Housing Division will no longer operate from two locations. The Rose Barracks Housing Office will close and move all services to East Camp. This move is part of the garrison's plan to reduce duplicate services currently being provided on both sides of the installation and make us better stewards of our resources. Housing services such as Army Family Housing, Private Rental, Appliance Service Desk, Leased Housing and Facility Maintenance will be provided at the on East Camp Housing Office, Bldg. 244. We also move front door services, improve quality customer service, gain efficiencies through better work processes, and the information flow between the customer and the Housing Office, ultimately providing a better service to the community. Thank you for your support and patience in this process. The Housing Office apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause as we continue to focus on providing the best possible customer service.

Grafenwoehr and Vilseck Health Clinic delay hours In the event of a 2-hour work delay due to inclement weather, the health clinic will open at 9 a.m. The health clinic will open at 11 a.m. during a 4 hour work delay. Shuttle bus operations during dangerous road conditions Red and Black Road Conditions: As we brace for winter, we remind the community that community shuttle/housing area buses will not operate in red or black road conditions. If conditions elevate to red or black after departure from post, drivers will immediately return to base unless the driver determines he can continue without endangering the safety of persons and equipment. Customers that are already onboard will normally be transported to post. Should road conditions rapidly develop to a critical level and continued operation would be a hazard, the driver will stop at the next available safe parking lot and inform TMP and/or Staff Duty Office of the situation. After conditions improve, routes will commence at their next regularly scheduled time. Work Delays/Early Releases: When a two-hour work delay is authorized, all bus routes originating before 8 a.m. will not run. They will initiate service at their next regularly scheduled run. If an early release is directed, runs 6 and 7 of Route G-1 (Grafenwoehr to Rose Barracks Direct Run) will not operate. National Testing Center (NTC) News While renovations continue at the Vilseck Education Center, University of Maryland University College - Europe's National Test Center (NTC) will temporarily be located in Rose Barracks Bldg.163D. The NTC only operates 20 hours per week and is open Mon-Fri 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The NTC offers computer-based national exams for college credit, including CLEP, DSST, Excelsior, GMAT, IT certifications, and many other professional certification exams. System wide tests measure our school’s progress toward the broad goals of the DoDEA Community Strategic Plan. Secondly, they help determine curriculum refinements in our own school program. Child Find: What is child-find screening? Preschool Child Find is a developmental screening for children ages 3-5 identifying children with developmental delays or other special education needs. For children under age 3 please contact EDIS at 09662-83-3221.

What is the process? A Child Find team made up of the preschool special needs service provider, speech and language pathologists and the occupational therapist screen the children for developmental delays. These free screenings take place monthly.

How does it work? Parent submits the Child Find questionnaire (which they can pick up in the office or find on the school website); they are set up with an appointment for the screening. When they come in for the screening the child must first pass a vision and hearing screen by our school nurse. Then they are screened by the team. If the child is suspected of having any delays the team will refer them for further formal evaluation.

Why is it important? When learning challenges are identified at a young age, early intervention can help the child with learning tasks.

If parents are interested, what do they need to do? They can go to the school’s website and find the link for Child Find.

Under that link is a questionnaire they need to fill out and email back to the email address provided on the form. Someone will be in contact with them within 48 hours. Frühlingsmark Spring Market in Fürth 9 -17 March: in 90762 Fürth, around the Fürther Freiheit (ca. 10 km / 6 miles west of Nürnberg). It is a typical street

market (only GE) where you can find all things necessary and unnecessary for everyday life. There will also be lots of entertainment and a few rides for the kids. On Sunday, 10 March, stores will be open in the afternoon.

Passion Play 9 -29 March: in 95478 Kemnath, at the Mehrzweckhalle (community hall), Badstraße 12 (adjacent to the school, ca. 20 km / 12.5 miles north of Grafenwöhr). Parking is available around the building.

After a 200-year hiatus, the Passion play in Kemnath was reinstated in 1983. Since then, the play is put on every 5 years.

It follows the script from 1731, probably written by a monk of the former Franciscan monastery in Kemnath. In the past, the play was the highlight of the Holy Week. It was stopped by decree as the Volksfest-like atmosphere around the play didn't please the authorities.

It is thanks to around 140 actors, nearly 100 singer, 14 musicians and 10 assistants working behind the scenes that this play can go ahead every 5 years. Click here for some photos from previous plays. Tickets can be purchased online (only German but the dates and start times are easy to understand).

Photography exhibitions 10 March: Beautiful pictures taken from the members of the local photo club ”Fotofreunde” and excellent slideshows about the “Flower-Island Madeira”, “Home” and “A sailing trip around the Channel Islands” will be shown. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the “Jugendheim” / Stadthalle in Grafenwoehr.

Street Market and Open Stores 10 March: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., in 93149 Nittenau, on Hauptstraße and adjacent Kirchplatz and Marktplatz (ca. 30 km / 20 miles NE of Regensburg). Opening hours for stores have not been specified. A large, central car park is located on Jahnstraße.

Artisans Market 10 March: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., in 91301 Forchheim at the Jahn-Kulturhalle, Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Straße 10 (ca. 25 km / 15.5 miles south of Bamberg). Artisans present their Easter-themed and everyday goods on two floors at this market. You can find toys made of wood and cloth, homemade soaps, accessories, dolls, teddy bears, jewellery, and objets d'art made of glass, wood, iron, steel or ceramic. And many intricately crafted Easter eggs. Admission is €2.50, children under 12 are free. It is recommended you park either in the parking blocks ("Parkhaus") in the city center, or on the "Sportinsel" at the Main-Donau canal, An der Regnitzbrücke (then it's just a short walk across the bridge to reach the Altstadt).

The clip shows some interesting hidden places that you normally don't get to see.

Every Wed. and Sat: 1:30 p.m.: Guided Tour of Regensburg, in English - "Experience a Historical City" In the course of this individually accented tour you get to know the Old City, with its patrician towered houses, the cathedral, the Old City Hall (all from the outside), the Stone Bridge and the Porta Praetoria. Closest free car parks are "Dultplatz" (Am Protzenweiher/ Oberpfalzbrücke); adjacent "Protzenweiher" (opposite Protzenweiher 27); neighbouring "Wöhrdstraße" (at Wöhrdstraße 18); and adjacent "Unterer Wöhrd" (Wöhrdstraße 60/62). There is also the "Donaumarkt" parking lot (Donaumarkt 1) which is "a walk across the bridge" closer than the "Wöhrdstraße" car park, but it's not free-of-charge, and it's blocked on Saturday mornings for the Regensburg produce market. From any of these car parks it's only a very short walk across one of the bridges. You can get a map of Regensburg's city center from the Tourist Info in the "Altes Rathaus" (old city hall) for free.

Every Saturday: 1 p.m. Guided Tour of 97070 Würzburg in English Your stroll starts at the Falkenhaus (location of the Tourist Info, ph 0931-372-398) with its elaborate Rococo facade, followed by a visit to the Marienkapelle (St. Mary's Chapel) featuring sandstone sculptures by Tilman Riemenschneider.

Other highlights include the historical town hall building and the Romanesque cathedral "St. Kilian". From the bridge Alte Mainbrücke, you can enjoy fantastic views of the fortress Marienberg, the pilgrimage church Käppele and the famous vineyards. Tour lasts around 1.5 hrs, tickets cost 6 Euros per adult. Between 7 May and 29 October, additional English tours are held every Friday at 1 p.m.

Every Saturday: 2 p.m. Guided Tour in English of Albrecht Dürer's House in Nürnberg’s historical city center, AlbrechtDürer-Straße 39 (in the pedestrian zone). Admission is 5 Euros (normal), 2.50. Euros (reduced) Famous painter Albrecht Dürer lived in Nürnberg (1471 – 1528) – you might know him best for his “Praying Hands” –, and his original residence in Nürnberg’s pretty city center has been converted to a museum. Every Saturday, an actress in historical gowns offers guided tours of the house in English, telling its history from the viewpoint of Dürer's wife Agnes.

Every Saturday: 3 p.m. Guided Tour in English of the Church of St. Jacob's in 91541 Rothenburg.

A public and free tour in English of the famous StJakobs-Kirche (church). You only pay the entrance fee for the church: 2 Euros for adults; 0.50 Euros for students, pupils; groups from 10 person: 1.50 Euros. No reservation necessary! Duration: ca. 45 minutes. Meeting Point: front row inside the church.

Every Saturday: 8 p.m. Guided Tour in English with the Night-Watchman in 91541 Rothenburg on Marktplatz = Market Place. Take a walk back in time with the Night-watchman through the romantically-lit streets of Rothenburg.

Meeting point is on Market Square, the tour lasts about 60 minutes. Fee is 7 Euros per person, payable in cash to the Night-watchman.
