BMW CONNECTED DRIVE DRIVER ASSISTANCE – A CO-DRIVER WHO THINKS AHEAD. BMW ConnectedDrive Driver Assistance includes innovative functions that enhance safety and convenience, maximising your driving pleasure. Knowing in advance what sort of bend is coming up next? The full-colour BMW Head-Up Display tells you. Inch-perfect parking? The Park Assistant does it for you.
BMW HEAD-UP DISPLAY – ALWAYS SEE WHERE YOU’RE GOING. With this item of optional equipment, relevant driving information is projected directly into the driver’s field of vision via a multi-coloured TFT display. The BMW Head-Up Display shows speed-related data or displays information such as navigation instructions or telephone lists. More colours now make it easier to differentiate between general driving information – such as speed limits – and warnings, such as the Lane Departure Warning. This helps the driver to concentrate on the road ahead, making driving even safer.
SPEED LIMIT INFO – THE SPEED LIMIT IS RIGHT WHERE YOU NEED IT – WITHIN VIEW. This driver assistance system, available on request, shows the current speed limit and information on no-overtaking zones in the instrument cluster by means of a special camera that detects the relevant traffic signs. A control centre then processes this information together with data from the navigation system. Features including the rain sensor are also incorporated, so that variable speed limits that apply in wet conditions or at certain times of day are also registered. In this way, the driver is appropriately informed of the situation ahead.
DRIVING ASSISTANT – LEAN BACK AND LEAVE THE ROAD TO YOUR BMW. Driving Assistant combines the camera-based systems lane departure warning and collision warning. From a speed of approx. km/h, the system draws the driver’s attention to an unintentional lane change by means of slight vibrations in the steering wheel. Collision warning detects cars ahead and warns of an imminent risk of collision. Pedestrians are detected too, so the driver is warned of a potential collision and if necessary the brakes are applied.
ACTIVE PROTECTION AND ATTENTIVENESS ASSISTANT. With Active Protection, your BMW reacts precisely to danger. The system becomes active shortly after start-up – from a speed of around km/h – and automatically adjusts the seat belt. If Active Protection recognises a collision risk, the system immediately tightens the front seat belts, closes the windows and the sunroof and thereby significantly reduces injury risk. In addition, Attentiveness Assistant monitors driving behaviour to detect tiredness and lapses in concentration. When these signs are registered, a rest stop suggestion appears in the Control Display. Locations for an appropriate place in the area can also be shown.
NEW GENERATION NAVIGATION SYSTEM PROFESSIONAL. Featuring a high-resolution and precisely detailed . " colour display. The system also offers a quick-start function and delay-free input for easy operation. Additionally, D map navigation with improved route guidance, Real Time Traffic Information (optional) and new features such as the Preview Assistant and ECO Route provide efficient extra support.
SURROUND VIEW AND PARK ASSISTANT. Surround View offers a view of the area around the car when manoeuvring. Your BMW is displayed in the Control Display from a bird’s eye perspective. Side View, part of this optional feature, also ensures a better overview when exiting areas with a restricted view. Park Assistant, available on request, facilitates parallel parking. When a space is found, it takes over the steering while you accelerate and brake. Parking becomes a relaxing experience and there is no need to make awkward head movements or adjust your seat position.

BMW EfficientDynamics represents an acclaimed standard package of innovative technologies that reduce fuel consumption and emissions, while simultaneously enhancing dynamic performance. It has enabled the BMW Group to lower the CO emissions of its European new-vehicle fleet by more than per cent since . BMW models currently emit g of CO per km or even less. THE BMW EFFICIENT DYNAMICS MEASURES IN THE NEW BMW SERIES COUPÉ AT A GLANCE. The Auto Start-Stop function automatically switches off the engine during brief stops, for example at a red light or in a traffic jam, in order to save fuel. When the driver operates the clutch (manual gearbox) or releases the brake (automatic transmission), the engine is automatically restarted within fractions of a second. BMW TwinPower Turbo technology for petrol engines combines a TwinScroll turbocharger with Valvetronic, Double-VANOS and High Precision Injection. In diesel engines, it combines advanced turbocharger technology with latest-generation CommonRail direct injection and variable turbine geometry. In this way, BMW TwinPower Turbo significantly reduces the fuel consumption of petrol and diesel engines – while at the same time raising power output across a wide range of engine speeds. Brake Energy Regeneration means that the alternator normally only generates electricity when the driver takes his foot off the accelerator or brakes – making productive use of excess kinetic energy to feed the battery. Thanks to wide-ranging aerodynamics optimisation measures the BMW has an outstanding drag coefficient, enabling maximum fuel efficiency. This includes features such as large-scale underfloor panelling, the Air Curtains in the front apron, and Air Breathers behind the front wheel arches.

As soon as the driver selects the ECO PRO mode, everything is geared towards maximum efficiency. According to an internal BMW fuel consumption study, this enables drivers to reduce fuel consumption by up to per cent, depending on their individual style of driving. The sailing mode (only available in conjunction with automatic transmission), Route-Ahead Assistant and ECO PRO Route (both only available in conjunction with Navigation System Professional) increase the potential savings by another five per cent. The ECO PRO mode optimises the accelerator and transmission response as well as the shift points, and intelligently adapts the heating/air conditioning strategy. The Control Display shows which BMW EfficientDynamics features currently help the driver save fuel. In addition, drivers receive situation-specific ECO PRO tips on how to drive even more efficiently. The Optimum Shift Indicator shows when changing to another gear would save fuel. The system recommends an upshift or downshift and adapts to the driver’s individual style of driving. The eight-speed automatic transmission enables smoother gearshifts and superior ride comfort with its finer graduation of gear ratios, causing smaller rev changes between gears. This makes for superlative comfort combined with exhilarating dynamics and reduced fuel consumption.

Many of these systems are intelligently linked with each other. Their interaction ensures that you can enjoy maximum driving pleasure, in maximum safety – on every straight, in every corner, every second of your drive.
The ideal chassis for even more agile handling – the electronically controlled dampers of the Adaptive Suspension adapt to your driving style and the road conditions. Their operating characteristics can be adjusted via the Driving Experience Control button. Ride comfort is not impaired in any way. A considerably stiffer suspension setting is available by selecting Sport or Sport+ mode using the Driving Experience Control button (Sport+ mode only in conjunction with Sport Line, sport automatic transmission, Adaptive Suspension, M Sport package or Variable Sport Steering). The Variable Sport Steering works independently of road speed, varying the steering ratio in line with the steering angle. It includes the Servotronic function and reduces the steering wheel movement required to achieve a particularly tight steering angle. This enhances comfort when parking and manoeuvring, as well as sporting agility in tight corners and hairpin bends. For small steering angles, the system provides excellent directional stability and a very high degree of steering precision. The sporty body has a particularly stiff construction, for optimum driving dynamics. This increases steering precision and agility. The front and rear sections include highly

effective deformation zones. Should the car ever be involved in a collision, the body converts a large part of the impact energy into deformation. The intelligent xDrive all-wheel drive system adapts optimally to even the most challenging road surface conditions, for maximum traction. With xDrive and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), your car remains directionally stable and under control. xDrive flexibly distributes drive power to the front and rear wheels, performing lightningfast adjustments to ensure optimum ground contact at all times. In this way, xDrive combines the advantages of all-wheel drive – traction, directional stability and safety – with hallmark BMW agility. Driving Experience Control offers you a choice: you can use the button in the centre console to activate the desired driving mode. Change from Comfort mode with the standard engine and transmission settings to ECO PRO mode for maximum efficiency, or to Sport mode for an even more dynamic driving experience. A display below the speedometer tells you which mode is currently active. Intelligent lightweight design has been a fundamental BMW design principle since the s. It involves using particularly lightweight
materials for specific parts of the vehicle – for example aluminium in the front section and chassis. This reduces fuel consumption and enhances performance, while maintaining the highest standards of safety. The eight-speed sport automatic transmission adapts to your individual style of driving. The spectrum ranges from comfortable cruising to very dynamic driving. In addition to automatic gear selection you can also change gears manually whenever you want to, using either the shortened selector lever or the gearshift paddles on the Sport leather steering wheel.

Adaptive Headlights with variable town and motorway light distribution, including cornering lights and Anti-Dazzle High-Beam Assistant for automatic switching from low beam to high beam, ensure optimum illumination of the road ahead. When driving at night, the swivelling headlights follow your steering wheel movements, allowing you to see further into the bend. The cornering lights improve closerange visibility. They become active automatically, even when the car is standing, as soon as the indicator is activated or the steering wheel turned. In this way, Adaptive Headlights make for enhanced road illumination and increase active driving safety.
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with extended features incl. Cornering Brake Control (CBC), hill-start and braking assistant, brake drying and brake stand-by recognises the risk of skidding from the start and stabilises the car within milliseconds. Traction Mode (DTC) is a subsidiary function of DSC and permits increased wheel slip within defined limits, in order to maximise propulsion in specific situations and enable a sportier driving style.
BMW restraint system for driver and front passenger: this combination of three-point seatbelt, belt tensioner and belt force limiter enables optimised restraint in the event of a collision. To ensure correct belt application on the rear seats, the belt latches are coded.
Bumper system at the front and rear includes replaceable deformation elements capable of absorbing impact forces in collisions up to a speed of km/h.
Airbags are part of the safety equipment in a BMW, all components of which are designed to complement each other perfectly. Six airbags offer specific protection: the driver and front passenger airbags, the frontto-rear (curtain) head airbags, and the side airbags integrated in the front seat backrests.
Active Protection comprises a range of safety components for the vehicle. In critical situations for example, Active Protection tightens the seatbelts, moves the seats into an upright position and closes the windows and sunroof. After an accident, the vehicle can automatically be slowed to a standstill. In addition, the Attentiveness Assistant monitors the driver’s steering and responds to any irregularities with appropriate messages in the Control Display.
Runflat tyres feature reinforced side walls allowing them to maintain their shape and rim position even after loss of pressure. This means that you can safely reach the nearest garage with your BMW. Runflat indicator alerts the driver when a tyre failure has occurred. A lamp in the cockpit indicates any slight drop in tyre pressure. If the pressure loss is severe, an acoustic warning is triggered as well.
Occupant cell: thanks to special support paths, node connections and the deliberate use of high-strength materials, the functional body design ensures a maximum of passive safety in the event of a front, side or tail-end collision. Defined deformation zones ensure that the body structure can absorb impact forces, thus protecting the occupants.

The i, i xDrive, d and d xDrive come with a twin tailpipe on the left, while the i and i xDrive have one tailpipe on the left and one on the right. The illustration above shows the tailpipe with Black Chrome trim (only in conjunction with BMW Sport Line).
Adaptive LED Headlights (shown here) include accent lights, low beam and high beam function, Anti-dazzle High-Beam Assistant, LED foglights, cornering lights, indicators, daytime running lights and Adaptive Headlights with variable light control for optimum road illumination and better visibility at night – for more relaxed driving that feels almost the same as driving by day. Xenon Headlights for low and high beam function include headlight washing system, LED accent lights and automatic headlight range control as well as parking lights and daytime running lights via four LED light rings. High-Beam Assistant supports the driver at night by automatically switching to low beam when there is oncoming traffic or another car ahead, and returning to high beam when the road is clear. The High-Beam Assistant also monitors lighting conditions and switches to low beam when the road is sufficiently illuminated, for example in built-up areas. Headlight washing system ensures optimum headlight brightness in all kinds of weather. When the lights are on, the headlights are automatically cleaned in parallel with the windscreen whenever the windscreen washer function is activated.
Dynamic brake lights with flashing function are automatically activated whenever full brake pressure is applied. This enables traffic travelling behind to tell the difference between a light tap on the brake pedal and a hard stop – thus helping to avoid tail-end collisions.

Park Assistant makes parallel parking easier. The system measures gaps the car passes (at speeds below km/h). When a suitable space has been found, the Park Assistant will take care of the steering, while the driver remains responsible for gear selection and operating the accelerator and brake pedals.
Comfort telephony with enhanced smartphone connectivity allows drivers to use Bluetooth or the snap-in adapter to link a compatible mobile phone to the vehicle and hands-free equipment. Hands-free system with USB port for wireless connection of suitable Bluetooth mobile phones" or connection of compatible audio sources such as MP players via the USB port.
Driving Experience Control incl. ECO PRO mode enables drivers to select ECO PRO, Comfort, Sport or Sport+ mode at the touch of a button (Sport+ mode only in combination with Sport Line, sport automatic transmission, Adaptive Suspension, M Sport package or Variable Sport Steering). The ECO PRO mode encourages particularly efficient driving. Adaptive Suspension includes dynamic damper control. Driving Experience Control can be used to select a comfortable or sporty chassis set-up.
Surround View offers the driver a good view of the area directly around the vehicle when manoeuvring. The BMW is represented as seen from above in the Control Display. Side View enhances visibility when exiting driveways or side streets (available in conjunction with Rear View camera).
Message dictation transforms spoken messages into text, which can then be sent off as an email or text message using a smartphone connected via Bluetooth. The dictation function is available free of charge for the first days. A contract with Nuance® is necessary for ongoing use.

HiFi loudspeaker system with Watt amplifier output features nine loudspeakers for even sound distribution across the entire vehicle interior. The seven-channel amplifier allows precise audio adjustment for brilliant sound.

Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI), * captures the current traffic situation on motorways, major and minor roads and on urban routes, delivering precise data on the location and extent of traffic congestion practically in real time and recommending alternative routes, along with an indication of how much longer the proposed route is and how much time would be gained.

Standard seats for driver and front passenger with manual adjustment of fore/aft position, backrest angle and headrest height, incl. seat height adjustment. The Easy Entry function – folding the entire seat forward – enables very comfortable access to the rear seats.
Storage compartments in the doors, large enough for one-litre bottles, a compartment with lid in the front centre console, an open compartment under the central armrest at the front and in the rear centre console, two cup holders at the front and two at the back, storage tray and glove box.
Automatic seatbelt handover moves the seatbelts from the B-pillar to within the driver’s and front passenger’s reach (shown here). Front passenger airbag deactivation to allow use of a reboard child seat is performed via the key switch on the front passenger’s side. A light in the roof console indicates that the airbag is deactivated.
Sport seats for driver and front passenger provide optimum lateral support thanks to electric backrest width adjustment. The seat length, height, backrest and seat angle and the thigh support are manually adjustable (standard on )i, )i xDrive and )d xDrive).
Lights package, LED-based, includes many additional light sources: one central light at the rear, reading lights front and rear, vanity mirror illumination for driver and front passenger, front footwell lights, ambient light front and rear, in the door trim and the storage compartments in the centre console, exit lights in the doors and vicinity lighting integrated into the exterior door handles.
Cup holders, four. Two are located in the centre console in front of the gearshift lever; two are integrated into the rear centre armrest. The cup holder cover at the front serves as an additional storage tray and can be tucked away in the glove compartment.
Rear seats are designed as individual seats and offer perfect lateral support and plenty of headroom, thanks to the low seating position, for optimum comfort in the second seat row. Headrests, integrated into the backrest, enhance seating comfort and safety for the rear passengers. ISOFIX child seat fastening system on the two rear seats enables safe installation of a child seat using snap-in connectors and additional fastening points in the upper area.
Storage compartment package includes storage compartment on the driver’s side, nets on the front seatbacks, V sockets, nets, bag hooks and a strap in the luggage compartment as well as a segmentable storage bin under the luggage compartment floor.
Seat adjustment, electric, with Memory function, enables adjustment of seat height, backrest angle, fore/aft position and seat angle. On the driver’s side, two settings can be stored using the Memory function (standard on i, i xDrive, d and d xDrive). Lumbar support for driver and front passenger, electrically adjustable for height and depth. Ensures an ergonomically correct seating position.
Interior mirror with automatic anti-glare function; the dazzle from following vehicles is automatically reduced when the amount of incident light exceeds a defined limit. Interior and exterior mirrors with automatic anti-glare function, incl. mirror memory and automatic parking function for the mirror on the passenger side when reversing, as well as electric fold-in function for the exterior mirrors. Alarm system with radio remote control and anti-theft device triggers acoustic signals in the event of an attempted break-in or unauthorised transport of the vehicle, and simultaneously switches on the hazard warning lights.
Through-loading system includes split rear backrest (/ /) for added flexibility and a more individual seat and luggage compartment configuration, as well as a centre armrest with two cup holders (standard). A matching ski and snowboard bag is available from Original BMW Accessories.
