Community welcomes new JSC director By Kathryn Paradis

N

ew Johnson Space Center Director Vanessa Wyche got quite a warm welcome from the community when the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership hosted a Community Welcoming Luncheon honoring her at the Clear Lake/NASA Hilton. When NASA Administrator Bill Nelson named Wyche as the new JSC director she said, “As the home to America’s astronaut corps, International Space Station mission operations, the Orion and Gateway programs, and a host of future space developments, Johnson is a world leader in human space exploration and is playing a key role in the next giant leaps in American excellence in space.” Wyche’s “Giant Leaps Start Here” presentation to the BAHEP members highlighted the numerous programs and initiatives in which JSC plays an active role. These include the International Space Station, Commercial Low-Earth Orbit, Private Astronaut Missions, Orion, Commercial Lunar Payload Services, Gateway, Artemis and Moon to Mars. “Getting back to the Moon and on to Mars will take all of us working together,” Wyche emphasized as she listed all the major milestones that must be accomplished. With the growth of commercial space companies and programs, community partner-

ships will be vital for the future of human space exploration. We are part of an ecosystem is how I see it, and working together is how we will be able to bring more commercial opportunities to this area. “I’m looking forward to us working and identifying ways that we can help as NASA to bring more companies to the area,” she said. A South Carolina native, Wyche earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Master of Science in Bioengineering from Clemson University. Wyche was named JSC’s director earlier this year, becoming the first African American woman to hold the position. While acknowledging she is the first to break that barrier, she hopes she won’t be the last.

FASHION TO A TEA” was the theme of this year’s always popular Nassau Bay Garden Club style show luncheon at Lakewood Yacht Club, with a dozen pretty models showing off fashions from Janette Faulker’s A Unique Boutique. It also was a great time to see old friends for the first time in a long time because of the pandemic, which led to the style show’s year delay. And smiles? Almost everyone wore one as Co-Chairmen Rhonda Davis and Royce Walker greeted the happy crowd. Led by President Becky Kadel, this group of ladies is probably the hardest working garden club in the Bay Area. They don’t just meet and talk about flowers and plants, they help clean up city parks, support a variety of events such as Arbor Day and Beautification Day – whatever they can do to make their city sparkle.

Jayne Sampson, left, and Kathryn Gehbauer arrive at Lakewood Yacht Club to model in the Nassau Bay Garden Club’s popular biennial style show.

After lunch they put on their biennial fashion show, which featured a number of well known models – Judge Holly Williamson, Assistant City Manager Mary Chambers, City Councilors Ashley Graves, and Sandy Mossman, and former Clear Creek ISD Trustee Win Weber, who joined Kathryn Gehbauer, Angela Braun, Jayne Samson, Christine Reynolds, Diana Clark, Beth Ann Maxwell and Ashleigh Klug in showing off a variety of seasonal fashions. Among those assisting the co-chairmen with the event were Nassau Bay First Lady Sue Warters, Betty Armstrong, Priss Fletcher, Ann Gay, Cherry Nims, Joyce Mayor, Angela Braun, Christina Jordan, Gail Beasley, Ann Davidson, Beth Ann Maxwell, Jayne Samson, Christina Jordan, and Richard Armstrong. Special guests included Mayor Bob Warters, Mayor Pro-tem Don Matter, and City Manager Jason Reynolds.

9/11 Exhibit NOW OPEN at Lone Star Flight Museum

T

he Lone Star Flight Museum’s newest exhibit is Never Forget: Commemorating the 20th Anniversary of 9/11. The exhibit remembers and honors the 2,977 people killed in the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, including the first responders and courageous men and women that risked and sacrificed their own lives to save others. The names of each of these individuals will cover the gallery walls. In addition, an 11-foot section of a World Trade Center I-Beam will be on display. The exhibit runs through Sunday, Jan. 3, 2022. The walls of the gallery space are covered with the names of all the 9/11 victims and their location at the time of the attack. A guest book will also be on display to allow visitors to leave their name, a sentiment or reflection about what happened on September 11, 2001. Upon closing of the exhibit, the guest book will be donated to the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York City. Museum President and CEO Lt. Gen. (ret.) Doug Owens reflected on the planning it took to make this exhibit possible. “We are proud that our commitment to honor and remember the 20th anniversary of 9/11 with this exhibit has been a community effort. The Gary Sinise Foundation led the way to ensure

this exhibit became a reality along with Morgan Stanley and Silver Eagle Distributors Houston. And we are honored to display the I-Beam on behalf of the City of Bellaire and thank each of the companies that were part of creating an extraordinary display for the beam. We are extremely grateful for the overwhelming support.” He added, “Our hope is this exhibit continues the dialog about what happened on 9/11, how we came together as a nation and most importantly, never forget the innocent people, first responders and real-life heroes that lost their lives that day.” The Never Forget exhibit will be FREE for school groups and home school groups/families that book a field trip with the museum. They will also be given access to grade appropriate, pre and post visit classroom activities and curriculum for teachers to share with their students. Curriculum covers grades Pre-K-12. Lone Star Flight Museum is open TuesdaySunday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sundays Noon to 5 p.m. Tickets start at $10 with senior and military discounts. Memberships are also available. Breast Cancer:

What Every Woman Should Know All women are at risk for breast cancer, which increases with age. Knowing the facts can help women detect problems early, when chances of a cure are greatest. “You are the first line of defense when it comes to breast cancer. That’s why it’s crucial to know how your breasts normally look and let your doctor know if something seems unusual,” said Dr. LaRon Mason, general surgeon at Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital.

FACT #1: Knowing the warning

signs of breast cancer is vital.

If you know the warning signs of breast cancer, you’ll be better equipped to recognize if it’s time to alert your doctor. Symptoms of breast cancer include: • A painless lump or mass in (or near) the breast • A change in breast size or firmness • Breast skin changes, such as dimpling, a sore or a rash • Nipple itching, burning, rash, turning inward or discharge • A warm area in the breast • Pain in the breast • Swelling under the armpit or of the arm You should see your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms, but keep in mind that most breast lumps aren’t cancer.

FACT #2:

The earlier breast cancer is detected, the better the outcome.

Early detection means a better chance of a cure, and annual screenings are essential to early breast cancer detection. In their 20s and 30s, women should have clinical breast exams during their yearly physical, and annual mammograms starting around age 40 women. “Screening mammograms are catching cancers at very early stages, and it’s

common to identify cancers that are still confined to the ducts. These cancer cells have not had a chance to break out of the ducts and invade the surrounding breast tissue,” Mason said. Mammograms can detect breast cancer up to two years before a lump can be felt. Because of early detection as well as improvements in the way breast cancer is treated, 90% of women with breast cancer are alive five years after their diagnosis.

FACT #3:

There are several types of breast cancer.

Many women think of breast cancer as a single disease. In fact, there are many different types of breast cancer. “Breast cancer is classified based on where in the breast it arises from. The most common place for cancer to start is in the ducts of the breast,” said Mason. The milk ducts of the breast are tubes that carry milk from the milk-producing glands (lobules) to the nipple. Breast cancers that start in the milk ducts are called ductal carcinomas, while breast cancers that start in the lobules are called lobular carcinomas

FACT #4:

Breast cancer can be invasive or noninvasive.

“Noninvasive cancer that is confined to the ducts of the breast is called ductal carcinoma in situ, or DCIS, and is considered stage 0 breast cancer,” said Mason. Noninvasive breast cancers rarely cause symptoms or lumps you can feel, but they may appear as tiny areas of calcification (tiny flecks of calcium) on a mammogram.

New Breast Care Center Location Houston Methodist Breast Care Center at Clear Lake has expanded its breast cancer service to include a newly renovated center on campus. The expanded Breast Care Center has moved out of the hospital to inside Medical Office Building 1 on 18100 Houston Methodist Dr.

“Breast cancer is classified as invasive if it has grown outside the duct or lobule where it started and into surrounding breast tissue, explained Mason. “It then can potentially spread to other areas of the body.” About 80% of breast cancers are invasive ductal carcinomas (IDCs), which appear as a hard, firm lump. In advanced stages of IDC, the skin over the lump may appear dimpled or the nipple may be retracted (pulled inward). About 12% of breast cancers are invasive lobular carcinomas (ILCs), which may feel like a thickening. ILC may be more difficult to detect on a mammogram than IDC.

Few Texans impressed with their political parties By Bill King

L

ess Than a Quarter of Texans View Incumbent Parties as “Very Favorable” Support for the Democratic and Republican parties continues to collapse. In a poll just released by the University of Texas’ Texas Politics Project, 14% of Texans viewed the Democratic Party as “very favorable” and in a real stunner, only

24

Bay Area Houston Magazine | OCTOBER 2021

10% viewed the Republican Party as “very favorable.” Even when you add in those that view one of the parties as “somewhat favorable”, both parties only get to 34%. The same poll found that 52% of Texans think Texas is headed in the wrong direction with only 35% believing it is headed in the right direction. Those are the highest/lowest numbers for that question since UT began asking it in 2009. It is little wonder that more Texans are despairing at the direction of their state with the interminable debacle in Austin and the epidemic of incompetence and corruption in so many local governments. Texans are increasingly left with the choice of a party whose core believes that the COVID vaccines

are a government conspiracy to implant microchips and one that wants to abolish prisons. It is time to stop giving any support to these two morally and intellectually bankrupt parties and for those of us in the rational center to reclaim our country, our state and our local governments and bring some common sense back to our civic life. Let’s do this!

The Legendary

Mediterraneo Market & Café by Rick Clapp

T

he legendary Mediterraneo Market & Café was the creation of the dynamic couple Magdy and Sonia Kolb. This mecca of Mediterranean dishes, desserts, and a variety of treats offers more than just a quality dining and shopping experience. Well-trained staff and a charming atmosphere make sure you have an enjoyable time. The Mediterraneo Market & Café has evolved into one of the finest culinary locales in the area. Originally, this exquisite restaurant was located in the Nassau Bay Shopping Center, but it has recently moved to a new venue on NASA Road 1. Relocating did not come so easily as it occurred during the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic. They endured further hardship with the death of owner and Sonia’s lifetime partner, Magdy. His loss will be forever felt, but his legendary establishment is continuing to thrive in his honor. The entire family, team, and loyal customers rallied to get the new place operational and serving the community. Mediterraneo Market & Café is a one-of-a-kind delightful bistro featuring a very casual setting. This colorful eatery and grocery store covers most of the Mediterranean Basin including the Middle East, Eastern, and Western Europe, serving

authentic Mediterranean dishes from Spain, Italy, France, Greece, Morocco, and Egypt. The most popular salads and entrees include their award-winning Niçoise Salad served with fresh tossed greens and garnished with tuna, eggs, green beans, potatoes, and olives. Other salads can be topped with succulent sliced gyro meat, shrimp, chicken, or salmon. A nice squeeze of lemon along with an olive oil vinegar dressing makes this a good, healthy choice for lunch or dinner. Another winner is their Veggie Plate that includes a healthy portion of hummus, baba ghanoush, grape leaves, falafel patties, and tabouli complimented with freshly baked pita bread. For meat lovers, the gyro sandwich plate is served with a zesty tzatziki sauce and hot french fries. Their delicious beef souvlaki kebabs are mouth-watering and come with a Greek salad and choice of sides. The unique blended spices make this dish desirable and a great menu choice. Try the authentic Mediterranean dishes such as pastitsio, moussaka, or Moroccan lamb tagine and enjoy a fresh Greek salad full of feta. Then finish your grand gourmand meal with a delectable baklava with traditional Arabic coffee or a cup of regular joe.

The Mediterraneo Market & Café also offers al fresco dining on their patio for outdoor meals in the fall and winter. Another plus is their evening live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. You will be serenaded by the likes of locals such as Kelly Williams, Claudio & Glenda, Mickey Hobbs, belly dancers, and more. The warmth of Sonia and her attentive staff make you always feel at home when dining or shopping. Friends of the café, Janis Balsamo and Angie Chivers, take wonderful care of all the plants and create a true oasis atmosphere for al fresco dining. THRIVING THROUGH TRIALS! An Interview with Jean Ward By Pastor Brad Heintz

R

ecently I had an inspiring chat with my “adopted” mom, Jean Ward, and how she has thrived through the tests and trials of her life. I pray that by reading this interview, you are inspired to thrive through your own trials.

What were your cancer battles and what choices did you make? I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000. Two years later I was diagnosed with colon cancer. In 2016, I was diagnosed a second time with breast cancer. I had a choice in the beginning for a total mastectomy or radiation and possibly chemotherapy. After many prayers and thoughts, my decision was to do a total. I’m not saying that we thought it would absolutely be the answer, but we were hoping that it would be. After the surgery, the lymph nodes came back clear. So, I did not have to do any more treatments. I did the same thing with the second diagnosis. How long have you been clear of cancer? I have been clear of cancer for five years. I just completed a physical with my oncologist. All my blood

30

Bay Area Houston Magazine | OCTOBER 2021

work came out good and the chest x-ray was clear. So, I am on the road again! I see my doctor every six months and take medication as she prescribes. By the way, I did get tested regularly before my first diagnosis of breast cancer, starting at forty, which was a long time ago. I was 70 years old when I was first diagnosed. I think that every woman, should get an annual mammogram and follow-up as your doctor advises.

Was there anything in your decision process that made your choice very clear? Yes, it was my prayers to God that made my choice clear. I believe God told me, “Yes, it is your decision, Jean. I will be with you whatever you decide.” So, I made my decision and it turned out to be the good thing. The first time I went in for surgery, I shall never forget the feeling I had. I never had any kind of strenuous surgery before. All by myself and lying on that gurney, I had this calmness that came about me. It was a feeling that everything’s fine…and it was! How important is community in fighting with cancer? Of course, with God, my family and friends, it was easier to make it through. Cancer is a dreaded disease, but it isn’t the end. I have known cases where people didn’t get the support needed. When a woman who loses a breast, she needs the support of her husband, family and friends because that is a sensitive thing which can affect us emotionally. Once you lose it, you realize it wasn’t that

important, but the time you have it, it is. Having a full mastectomy was actually challenging for me, but I learned from it. Once you learn the lesson, it’s like going to school: If you get an “A” it’s just wonderful. If you get an “F” it’s not so good.

Speaking of support can you share what you are doing? Shortly after I had my first surgery in 2000, we began “The Bosom Buddies” organization which is a support group for women who need relational and practical support. Our Bosom Buddies group still meets once a month and helps anyone who needs it. We are also a part of “Pampered Pink” which has emerged as a great, local support organization helping women and men with breast cancer over the last twelve years (http://www.pamperedpinkbayarea. com). What I love is that Pampered Pink is local. So often we contribute and don’t see where the money goes, but with Pampered Pink we can see a lady smile with bright eyes when she receives the support she needs. What are your closing thoughts? Live each day to the fullest and love God forever! Pastor Brad Heintz is the founding pastor of Living Word Church in Taylor Lake Village, Texas, a vibrant family-style, non-denominational gathering of believers who take a pure, simple and real approach to faith and life. www.LWCBA.org

Legendary Places

T

Rick’sPICKS

hroughout life our travels often takes us to places that are legendary, the Alamo, Tombstone Arizona, and Gettysburg just to name a few. What places are legendary when it comes to fishing? In Galveston Bay, that legendary place has to be San Luis Pass. The place has been labeled Satan’s Corridor, where the gulf meets the bay. Extremely hazardous but still one of the best places to intercept schools of surf run trout. Capt Sammy Orlando of Fish 409 Guide Service and I planned to fish this fabled area together for almost a year. A couple weeks ago, that plan came together. Conditions were horrible, storm cells all around and rain. When you try to plan a fishing excursion in order to gather enough material to write about, the weather never cooperates. I met him at Sea Isle Marina where he keeps his boat. Brief down pouring rain just passed as we loaded up my gear. Sammy’s plan was to take me to that place of legendary catches, San Luis Pass. He is one of the few guides that fish this area extensively. We head out of Sea Isle in his big Transport cat boat. Wind was gusting to twenty, as he headed West towards the pass. I asked what is the game plan? He said “we are going to tuck in behind Bird Island and fish the gut that runs between the shallow sand bars”. As he maneuvered his boat around the shallows of San Luis Pass we eased up behind the island. It offered just enough protection from the wind as he set his power pole anchor into the sand. The bait well had was full of live croakers on this day. Water clarity was just okay, not great. Less than five minutes after making our first cast, Sammy sets the hook and a fish splashed on the surface, letting us know it was a Speckled Trout. A couple minutes later it comes to the net and we quickly take a photo and release the fish unharmed. We must have caught ten trout in the twenty plus inch class and four reds within the first hour. Wind now was howling over twenty knots and storm clouds looming in the gulf. Capt. Sammy repositioned the boat, only moving about 60 feet. Within two minutes fish were aggressively feeding. It was a trout on every cast, then I began to question him as to why they are here? What holds them to this area? After all there is no oyster reef and structure. Often you can learn by just listening and not talking, so I let Capt. Sammy talk. He described the pass as a highway. The fish come from the gulf, into the pass, utilizing the guts between the sand bars. As he stated “ they do not hold but come in waves during the incoming tide”. These fish are commonly called “surf runners”.

This was surely evident on our day at the pass. Where are they going? Capt. Sammy hypothesized that they are moving into Chocolate Bay, Bastrop Bay and West Galveston Bay. Why? To do their thing, that is to spawn. Trout can spawn throughout the Summer months. I then asked, what happens when you can’t fish the pass? Sammy commented, on days where the pass is too rough and dangerous I then seek the shelter of Mud Cut, Christmas Bay, Cold Pass, and Bastrop Bay. He also noted that on those days he will carry live shrimp. Like most good guides you have to adapt to the ever changing weather conditions along the coast. I never really fished this area in my years on the bays. The reason in doing this article was to highlight the area and let people know that the pass offers many options. While Capt. Sammy is relatively new to the guide business starting in 2018, his knowledge of the area is extensive. He has a laid back personality acquired from being in the service industry for over 10 years. He is very family friendly enjoying watching children catch fish. He also can accommodate those hard core anglers. San Luis Pass is a place that every angler should experience at least once in your life. The pass does have access for those without boats. Longtime guide Capt. Mike Williams named the pass “Satan’s Corridor” for the lives it’s claimed. Word of caution, wear a life jacket at all times if you venture into the water.

ELECTRIFYING! By Don Armstrong

C

ar makers are beginning the transition from internal combustion engines to battery powered electric motors. Manufacturers around the world are pouring billions and billions of dollars of their own money into R & D and battery technology, but government entities and private companies will be hard-pressed to keep up if we buy these electrics too quickly. We recently had a chance to drive the allnew Ford Mustang Mach-E, an SUV that is touted to deliver up to a 300-mile range with a full charge of its extended range battery

pack. However, things like a climate-controlled cabin, high-speed freeway jaunts and frequent fast starts will contribute to fewer miles before another charge. Our test Mach-E came with a 110V “fuel” hose that plugged into the outlet on my front porch. Most buyers will opt for the 240V charging station that your electrician will have to install in the garage. That setup should give you about 30-miles per charging hour. So, starting from empty it would take approximately 10-hours to reach a full charge. A DC charge – available through EV Go or other quick charge providers – can fill your battery from 10% to 80% in about 45 minutes. Are you ready to completely change your driving habits? Because that’s what you’ll have to do as the owner of an EV – Electric Vehicle. Mapping out your charging spots along your route, plus charging time, will become part of your daily plan. Will you be able to access a DC charger at lunch, the same time everyone else

is looking to do the same - and there are only 3 working chargers at that location? What will you do for 45 minutes while your car charges? Granted, your EV will keep you updated on your current state of charge, when you need to stop and where the closest charger is to your current location. But it’s not like stopping at the corner convenience store. No more popping in for a full tank that takes maybe 5-minutes to fill and will get you all the way to Dallas without worry. We’re not bashing the technology; we think it’s time has come, but are you ready to change everything you know about filling up at the “gas” station and having to “charge-sit” your new baby? By the way, we really like the Mustang Mach-E. Thank you, Ford, for the loan. Starts at $44,000.

WYNONA JUDD Lights Up the Summer Night Photography by GH Andrew

O

n a hot, muggy summer night in Seabrook, Texas, customers at BARge 295 were eagerly anticipating the featured country artist of the night. They were in their dressed-to-impress best with cowboy hats steamed to shape perfection, shiny polished boots, and freshly pressed denim for someone very extraordinary to come to the stage. As the sun faded into dusk, the patient crowd was rewarded to experience a superstar, a true legend. The fiery red hair, the big voice, the eternal energy – it was Wynonna Judd. As Wynonna mentioned during her show, she has been in the music business for 38 years. Between her solo career and performing with her mother as The Judds, Wynonna has had countless hit records, 19 of which have been number one. Her success includes three platinum albums, five Grammy’s, Country Music Awards, and Billboard Music Awards. Just this year, she has been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Wynonna has re-entered the world of live performances after a severe lockdown due to the pandemic. “I love you and missed you,” she

shouted out to the BARge crowd who responded with enthusiastic appreciation to have her back onstage. Wynonna didn’t disappoint; she serenaded the audience with one well known anthem after another, gleefully inviting them to sing along, as if they needed prompting. She invited a little girl to the stage for joint selfies, creating a memory that will last a lifetime. Wynonna also brought a young couple onstage to personalize their evening. This was a true love fest between fans and a performer with each moment more endearing than the last. Speaking of love fest, Wynonna did take time to sing a special song to her husband, Cactus Moser, the leader and drummer for The Big Noise, her

onstage band. The Big Noise was the opening act for the show, proving their world class prowess with their strong presence. Joining Cactus is Charlie White on guitar, Dow Tomlin on Bass (including a grand double bass), and Casey Martin on keyboards. Wynonna released her latest album in 2016 with them. The Big Noise will be releasing their first album called “Big Sky” later this year. This will be a must have for music lovers who will be thrilled with their fluid and inventive riffs, flourishing finishes, and those delightful improv moments. Once she was on stage with them, Wynonna gave The Big Noise plenty of opportunities to shine with harmonica solos and switching instruments. They greatly complement each other. All-in-all, Wynonna showed why she is one of the greatest performers around. Her solid vocals are accentuated by her nonstop facial expressions and powerful presence. People are just drawn to her and her music. She is now making frequent visits to the Lone Star State, especially to the Houston area. Follow her on Facebook to see where she will be locally wooing the next legion of fans.

LONE STAR RALLY RETURNS

TO GALVESTON!

G

et yer motor runnin’! The legendary Lone Star Rally is rolling into Galveston for another fast and furious four days of tailpipe thunder and motorcycle magic. Galveston Island has been home to the nation’s largest four-day motorcycle event since 2001 and draws hundreds of thousands of people from around the country all coming to marvel at the glorious work of man and machine – primarily of the two-wheeled kind. Motorcycle enthusiasts are anxious to get back on their bikes and the Lone Star Rally is happy to have them with a plethora of open-air events covering a wide territory on the island. While Lone Star Rally is primarily focused on motorcycles of the traditional kind, with bike shows and custom build contests, there will be activities, events and vendors celebrating all kinds of motorized wonderment and the lifestyle that goes with it. The annual Drive-In Car Show features Pre1972 hot rods and muscle cars while some newly added events will focus on the Slingshot 3-wheeler, sport bikes, motorcycle sound systems and more. The jam-packed weekend of mostly free, outdoor events begins Thursday, November 4th at noon with live music concerts daily on two stages (noon til midnight) and goes until the last motorcycle roars out of town Sunday night. Vendors selling everything from chopper trailers to saddle bags, leather jackets, clothing and jewelry, custom bike painting, parts and accessories of all kinds, will be on hand lining downtown Galveston streets from 20th to 24th between Harborside and Mechanic, and also in the Pier 21 area. Additional vendors will be stationed along the Seawall from 21st to 25th St. and around the Beach Central Park events area at 21st and Seawall. Good causes and good times return with The Miss Lone Star Rally contest, hosted by legendary Houston rock-radio personality, Outlaw Dave, where 2019’s winner will crown a new queen Saturday night at Sangerfest Park (23rd and Strand). Outlaw Dave’s Annual Ranch Ride benefiting the Stevens & Pruett Ranch for Children and Animals takes place on Saturday beginning at Stubb’s Harley Davidson in Houston at 8:30am. A family friendly, patriotic atmosphere has always been a big part of Lone Star Rally and this year

is no exception with a special appearance by Lee Greenwood singing God Bless The USA (Proud To Be An American) on Friday night at 7pm at Sangerfest Park. Greenwood will also make a personal appearance on Saturday giving support to veterans through his Soldier Valley Spirits line of beverages that includes Whiskey, Vodka and Bourbon. Greenwood will sign bottles and proceeds will go to veterans. Greenwood’s one-night musical appearance is special to the Rally but the weekend presents a full slate of rock, country and tribute bands on both the main stage at Sangerfest Park and the Beach Central Stage at 21st and Seawall. Crowd favorites and 80’s tribute band extravaganza, Hairball, are returning to headline the Beach Central Park Stage and Florida classic rocker, Bobby Friss will be wowing crowds with his high-energy show on the Sangerfest Park Stage. A great supporting cast of bands and artists performing all day long include Billboard country hit-maker, Colt Ford, immediately following Lee Greenwood, Whey Jennings (Waylon Jennings grandson), Louisiana country hip-hop sensation Justin Champagne, tribute bands Highway To Hell (ACDC) and Cowboy (Kid Rock), hard rockers Black Smoke Sinners and many others including Houston/ Galveston’s own southern rocker, Zach Tate. No motorcycle lover should go without spending a few hours on The Strand witnessing the parade of bikes both parked and cruising up and down Galveston’s main drag. Choppers, hogs, Slingshots, three-wheelers, softails and sport bikes lit up and roaring make for an orchestra of sound and sight that literally rumble the streets and dazzles the eyes. Go to www.LoneStarRally.com for a complete list of all events and performers.
