ELIAS MYRMO Elias Myrmo joined NASA in 2008 in the Flight Operations Directorate’s Mission Systems Division, working on Mission Control Center systems and became a communication radio frequency onboard network utilization specialist in 2010, logging more than 2,000 hours in support of ISS Expeditions 32 through 50. Since 2016, he has served as lead of the Exploration Flight Dynamics and Operations Group. The group also is responsible for protection of the public on launch day, as well as the Space Launch System rocket during Artemis missions. Myrmo was raised in Naples, Fla., and graduated from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, with a B.S. in Computer Science.

Bay Area Houston Magazine | SEPTEMBER 202210 NASA adding seven new flight directors

“I am honored to welcome the flight director class of 2022. This diverse group brings with them an impressive body of experience flying the space station, launching rockets, driving Mars rovers, and developing interplanetary missions,” said acting NASA Chief Flight Director Emily Nelson. “These flight directors and the experience they bring with them will be critical in humanity’s return to the Moon and future exploration of Mars. I’m proud to have them join our team.”

HEIDI BREWER Heidi Brewer started her career at NASA in 2006 in the Space Shuttle Instrumentation and Communications Officer group, supporting 19 shuttle missions and as a lead for the final shuttle flight, STS-135. At the conclusion of the shuttle program, in 2011, Brewer transitioned to the Space Station Integration and Systems Engineer group, where she worked as a specialist in integrating operations and training with SpaceX, supporting more than 20 Dragon missions. Brewer was raised in Marietta, Ga., graduated from Georgia Tech in Atlanta with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering in 2005, and holds a Master of Science degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla.

NASA has selected seven new additions to the team of flight directors to oversee operations of the International Space Station, commercial crew, and Artemis missions to the Moon. The class of 2022 inductees include Heidi Brewer, Ronak Dave, Chris Dobbins, Garrett Hehn, Nicole McElroy, Elias Myrmo and DianaAfterTrujillo.completing a comprehensive training program that includes operational leadership and risk management, as well as the technical aspects of flight control and spacecraft systems, these future flight directors will lead human spaceflight missions from the Mission Control Center at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. In this role, these individuals will lead teams of flight controllers, research and engineering experts, and support personnel around the world, making the real-time decisions critical to keeping NASA astronauts safe in space. NASA’s flight directors lead missions to the space station and are preparing for lunar missions for NASA’s Artemis program. The total number of agency flight directors is now 108 since the namesake of the Mission Control Center, Christopher C. Kraft Jr., became the agency’s first flight director in 1958. The new class will be at the forefront of everything humans do in space, following in the footsteps of Apollo-era flight directors, including Glynn Lunney, Gene Kranz, and Kraft. Becoming a NASA flight director requires years of study and dedication, as well as a background of professional experience in a highstress environment, requiring fast-paced decision making.

Visit NASA Johnson’s Twitter feed for more details.

NASA’s new flight directors, who will oversee operations of the International Space Station, commercial crew and Artemis missions to the Moon are, from left, Heidi Brewer, Ronak Dave, Garrett Hehn, Diana Trujillo, Elias Myrmo, Chris Dobbins and Nicole McElroy.

He grew up in Secaucus, N.J., and graduated from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering.

CHRIS DOBBINS Chris Dobbins also began his NASA career in 2011 in the Pathways Intern Program. He started his full-time NASA career as a space station Environmental and Thermal Operating Systems flight controller in 2014, logging more than 2,500 hours of console time and serving as a lead for the International Space Station Expedition 56 and several spacewalks. He later began supporting the Boeing Starliner, working in Mission Control for the company’s uncrewed flight test for NASA. He most recently served as the ascent and entry lead for Boeing’s Orbital Flight Test-2. Originally from Crystal Lake, Ill., Dobbins graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering.

NICOLE (LEWIS) MCELROY Nicole McElroy joins the NASA flight director team from Virgin Orbit in Long Beach, Calif., where she worked as the launch director. McElroy first started at Virgin Orbit as an intern, and then returned fulltime as a propulsion systems engineer designing the propellant and pressurant management systems. She later served as launch director, where she was responsible for the entire launch operation timeline.McElroy was born in England and raised in Highlands Ranch, Colo. She graduated valedictorian from the Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Science in New York, earning a .B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2015.

What does a teenage mom, a billionaire, a big church member, apprentice demon slayers, and the Savior of the world all have in common? The opportunity to see the impossible become possible through faith! That’s right. When the young virgin Mary found out she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit. The Angel said, “With God nothing will be impossible!” (Luke 1:37 NKJV)

When the disciples saw a Biblical billionaire struggle to believe and Jesus said it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, they wondered who could be saved. Jesus responded, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Pastor Brad Heintz is the founding pastor of Living Word Church in Taylor Lake Village, Texas, a vibrant family-style, nondenominational gathering of believers who take a pure, simple and real approach to faith and life. www.LWCBA.org

What do we have in common?

When Jesus’s disciples asked Him why they were unsuccessful in slaying demons, Jesus said, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

“We believe that God has given us land to build a new church home and community center,” said Pastor Brad Heintz. “It will be a place where neighbors, friends, families and organizations can gather to worship, study, serve and share together. I invite you to build with us a place where everyone is welcomed home and loved.” Living Word Church of the Bay Area, is a vibrant family-style, nondenominational gathering of believers who take a pure, simple and real approach to faith and life. Living Word Church is worshiping at G.W. Robinson Elementary, 451 Kirby Rd. El Lago, TX at 10:30am on Sundays until they move into their new church home and community center. Everyone is invited to attend and help build a church!

(Matthew 17:20) Hebrews 11:5-6 says that, “By faith in the Old Testament, Enoch, who lived 365 years, was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: ‘He could not be found, because God had taken him away.’ For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

Living Word Church Begins

Even Jesus before he went to the cross spent time in prayer with God, “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” (Mark 14:26) What do you have in common with a teenage mom, a billionaire, a big church member, apprentice demon slayers, and the savior of the world? The opportunity to see the impossible become possible by faith! I pray that you see your challenging circumstances, your blessed resources, your church membership, your good work as opportunities to see the impossible become possible through faith! Maybe it is time to be like Jesus and talk to God about it. Maybe it is time to step out in faith and do something good. Maybe it is time to live out for what you signed up. Maybe it is time to use your material blessings to serve God. Maybe it’s time to be whatever God wants you to be.

Getting a good night's sleep every night is vital to cardiovascular health. Adults should aim for an average of 7-9 hours, and babies and kids need more depending on their age. Too little or too much sleep is associated with heart disease, studies show. Charge your device as far away from your bed as possible. Dim your screen or use a red filter app at night. Set an alarm to remind you it's time to wrap it up for the night. If you've got a scrolling habit, try a blocking app that makes it impossible to get lost in after hours emails, social media, or gaming. Put your phone on "do not disturb" mode to block notifications while you're sleeping. and repair of cells, tissues and blood vessels immune system mood and energy including alertness, decision-making, focus, learning, memory, reasoning and problem-solving of chronic disease

September

SET IT. LOCK IT. BLOCK IT. DIM IT.SUCCESSTIPSFOR

It's hard to believe that September is already here. One day this month, you'll step outside and feel a noticeable chill in the air. before you know it, you'll be looking for that long sleeve shirt, and maybe a warm cup of coffee during the day. Suddenly you may find yourself asking, is Fall here? That question could be answered as one walks into a Walmart and notices all the Fall decor. Before one can make "All your Autumn Dreams Come True," you might want to know the official starting day of Fall. Have you ever heard of the term equinox? We all have, but do you know what it refers to? The word itself is derived from the Latin words Aeguus, which means equal, and Nox which means night. Hence the word equinox. There are two equinoxes during the year, autumnal and vernal. The earth's axis are titled neither towards, nor away from the sun. This causes the earth to have equal amount of daylight and darkness. For those days mark the beginning of Fall and the first day of Spring. With all this being explained the best I could, the official start of Fall this year is September 22. This applies only to the northern hemisphere. Those south of the equator, it's their start of their Spring. If you're wondering, yes, we live in the Northern Hemisphere. These shorter daylight hours will trigger a movement in the fishes of Galveston Bay. The flounder bite will greatly improve. The dropping water temperatures will start their movement towards the open Gulf, where they go offshore to spawn. The redfish can be found schooling in the open bay, chasing the migration of white shrimp, as they move from the estuaries and marsh, towards the openWhatGulf.about speckled trout, a angler might ask? First, you have to realize we have two classes of fish; Those that migrate from the gulf, and those that live in our bay system year around. Most, not all, of the migratory fish have left the bay and are back in the the gulf. Our resident fish will begin their annual journey, to the northern reaches of our bays. Why? To intercept the shrimp, as they migrated out of the marshes and estuaries. They make this migration every year, starting in September. Of course the weather plays a big factor in this movement. The quicker we experience fronts from the north, the movement begins. I usually find the first two weeks of the month a trying time to catch decent speckled trout. Last year was a exception, because it seemed like Summer never wanted to stop. This year, who knows? We've been dry, tropical activity has been minimal, at the time of this writing (middle of August). Could we use a little rain, yes, but I'm very happy about our lack of tropical weather. Let that dry air keep coming off Africa, and we all can enjoy that first day of Fall, and the fantastic fishing to follow. (832)galvestonbaycharterfishing.com228-8012

It's Electrifying! JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4XE INTERIOR OF THE FORD F-150 LIGHTNING INTERIOR OF THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4XE THE FORD F-150 LIGHTNING

FORD F-150 LIGHTNING

The interior is one of the quietest you’ll find anywhere and even at the entry level price, it comes with gobs of tech, most of which is imbedded in the Sync infotainment system.

Here is Ford’s vision of an electric half-ton pick-up truck, and it is so-far, so-good. Outside of the faux grille, which is no more than a black filler panel, it may be hard to tell a gasolinepowered F-150 from this battery-only version. We evaluated the Pro Series trim level and the dual EMotor with extended range battery, a $10,000 option. Ford says this setup, when fully charged, should give you 320 miles of range.

Manufacturers are pouring billions of dollars into electrifying cars, trucks, and SUV’s and whether we want it or not, it will affect us all. Phrases like, “charging stations,” “range anxiety,” and “kilowatts” are soon to become your new “car speak.”

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4XE Now that your mind is focused on all-electric, let’s mess it up a little by introducing you to a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle or PHEV. That’s how the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4Xe is classified. Oh, and that’s pronounced Four by E, (E stands forPoweringelectric). the 4Xe is a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine coupled to an electric motor. Jeep says that when fully charged, the electric motor alone will get you to the grocery store and back – up to 25 miles - without running the gasoline engine. Here’s where it gets good The EPA rating for the gas plus electric combo is 56-MPGe. That should get you all the way to Chicago without a fuel stop. Our loaner was the top-of-the-heap Summit Reserve trim level and is about as luxurious as it gets. Real wood, Palermo leather seating, high zoot headliner and every bell and whistle available.Thisthing will have the neighbors convinced you finally got the promotion for which you’d beenStartinghoping.at$60,260 the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4Xe zooms to $79K with all the accoutrements.

But how much are you towing or hauling? Going to Dallas at 75-MPH? These factors and others take a toll on range. We could go on and on, but before purchasing an EV of any kind we suggest doing lots of homework including charging stations away from home. Unlike the F-150’s gasoline brethren, the Lightning has an independent rear suspension that noticeably improves the ride quality.
