Autumn Highlights

National Simultaneous Storytime National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 19th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores ageappropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6. This year NSS takes place on Wednesday 22 May 2019 at 11am (AEST) and we would love it if you could join us by sharing Alpacas with Maracas written and illustrated by Matt Cosgrove. Hear the story, sing songs and participate in a simple craft activity. The answer to those questions will impact the rest of your writing. Join acclaimed author Anna George to learn how to distinguish between first, second and third person, how to decide which to use and whose point of view will work best. Local Author Book Launch

Antique Roadshow!

Join local author, Denise Tobin Shine, for the launch of her latest book, Jeremiah's Trunk. In present-day Brighton, Melbourne, Abigail Skinner’s life is transformed when she inherits an old trunk containing a shocking letter of betrayal, and some old journals, written during the Industrial Revolution in the British potteries. Abigail devours the tales of her artistic ancestors and their narrow boat friends on the canals. Tragically, one of her ancestors is transported to NSW in 1839, but later settles in Ballarat during the gold rush years and where Abigail ultimately ‘finds’ herself, after following her fascinating family trail.

Lester DeVere will present an entertaining and informative session on valuing Antique's and Collectibles. Lester has worked in the Antique trade for more than 30 years as an Antique Dealer from 1981 to 1990 then moved on to be a Commission Agent buying on behalf of the Antique Trade and Private collectors in Melbourne Antique Auction Rooms between 1990-2019. Lester also owned an Antique and Collectible Auction Room.

Do you have questions about using your digital device? Come along to our Device Advice sessions and we will help get you started. Device Advice is an informal, drop-in style session - just bring your device and your questions.

If you need a helping hand to access our library eResources, including eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines, book a 30 minute session with one of our library tech support staff. They can assist with basic information to help download e-books and e-magazines on your iPad, tablet, e-reader or other device.
