Beaumaris Dreamer in Space
Pretty Birds and Paper Tulips
Dreamer is an imaginary character who looks like a mouse or dog with a child’s body and is in the same age group as the audience. Dreamer loves learning about the universe and has an amazing spaceship, launching pad, telescopes, super-computers, you name it!, all inside and beneath a rustic farm house on the edge of the central Australian desert. From here, Dreamer watches the universe with a special telescope.
When the weather gets warmer flowers and birds appear.
Dreamer in Space is a spectacular visual theatre accompanied by an original music soundtrack by Melbourne composer, John Grant. Create, Play, Learn A dedicated creative space, “Create, Play, Learn” is available at Beaumaris Library. Come along to explore the technology yourself, or book into one of our guided tutorial sessions listed below. Technology that is available and free to use includes: • Virtual reality headsets • Oculus Rift • Vinyl records to digital converter (also available at Sandringham Library) • Slide photographs to digital converter • VHS tape to digital converter • LEAP motion • Photo printer to print pictures directly off your smart phone (for a small charge). • iPads • 3D printer There is also a WiiU and PS4 console that can be used in our interactive gaming zone.
Introduction to the Craft Cutter Sandringham Library's Silhouette cutting machine is open for use by the public. All you need to get started is to purchase a cutting mat and attend one of our monthly introduction sessions. The Silhouette Cameo machine can be used to cut paper, vinyl, heat transfers, stickers and so much more! Make your own pop up cards, custom clothing, Christmas and other holiday decorations, vinyl laptop or wall decals, scrapbook pages and paper toys. After you have attended the introductory session, you can use the Silhouette Cameo machine at any time during library opening hours. Don’t forget to bring your Silhouette mat and any craft materials such as paper or vinyl you may need. Note: You do not need to purchase a mat prior to attending the introductory session. eLearning and Technology The Library runs a number of training classes on a variety of topics relating to iPads, iPhones, Windows 10 computers and the Library's online resources (Family History). Classes are held in the Brighton Library Training Room. Most classes have maximum of eight participants. Our classes are conducted by experienced trainers, and a set of notes for you to take home is provided for all classes. You can book and pay for a class by cash, EFTPOS or cheque at any of our branches. Do you know how to use your iPhone (model 5 or later) to make/answer a call, send/read a text, take a photo with the camera and view it, but not much else about these basic skills? This 2.5 hour class could be just what you need. You will learn how to organise your home screen, delete apps, change your phone’s more important settings, add frequently called phone numbers to Favourites, fix typing mistakes, what those abbreviations mean (lol) use Siri to make calls and send texts, some new ways to use the camera, share a photo with friends and more. Are you still up in the air when it comes to what iCloud is and whether you should use it? Come along to this 1 hour class! We will start off by discussing, in very simple terms, the difference between the iCloud Drive, iCloud Photo Library, iCloud Backup and other cloud storage options such as Dropbox. You will then learn which iCloud settings work best for you, which can be safely turned off, and more. This 2 hour class will provide an overview of the Windows 10 operating system using the new Windows laptops in our training room. We will start by briefly discussing the most important changes to its appearance and features compared to previous versions such as Windows 7. You will learn about Live Tiles, how to use the Start menu to locate installed Apps such as OneNote, the various tray icons including Microsoft Edge (Internet Explorer), File Explorer and the Store, managing the Notification/Action Centre, the benefits of creating a free Microsoft account (which includes 5Gb of free cloud storage) and use of OneDrive, and more. If you like to talk about books you’ve read and share your ideas with like-minded people, why not come along to a Book Chat. There is no prescribed reading so just enjoy a chat with fellow book lovers and get some tips for your next reading experience.
Are you a passionate cook or an avid cookbook browser? Perhaps you like to read fiction based around a kitchen? Come into Sandringham Library and chat about all things foodie! Browse cooking books, magazines and recount your favourite food experiences and memories. Bring along your favourite tried and tested recipes to share with others. Staff will copy recipes for you.
