ongratulations to the honourable Chief Police of Penang, Comm Dato’ Seri A. Thaiveegan on being conferred the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri on July 14, 2018 by the Yang Dipertua Negeri Pulau Pinang, Tun Dato’ Seri Haji Abdul Rahman Bin Haji Abbas from S Selvakumar, Chief Executive Officer of Shan Poornam Metals Sdn Bhd. Dato’ Seri A. Thaiveegan began his career in 1985 at the age of 27 as a cadet assistant superintendent. He then served as a senior investigator at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters in 1986. He was transferred to the federal special branch unit in Bukit Aman where he served for five years until 1991. He then served with the Commercial Crimes Department for 13 years, under the banking, financial and anti-money laundering department, before being made its chief in 2003. In 2004, Dato’ Seri served as the Sentul district police chief and later as Kedah’s deputy CPO for two years until 2008. He was made Sarawak’s police management chief from 2009 to 2010 and returned to the peninsula to serve as Selangor deputy CPO from 2010 to 2013. In 2013, he was sent to Penang where he was the deputy CPO until September 2016. He was then seconded to Bukit Aman to head the CCID. Dato’ Seri took over as the Penang state police chief (CPO) on Dec 31, 2017. He is currently the highest-ranking Indian police officer in the force besides current Federal CCID director Comm Datuk Seri Amar Singh. Known for his tough stance against underworld gangs and serious crimes, Dato’ Seri Thaiveegan has been on the issue especially when he served as the Selangor and Penang deputy police chief. Dato’ Seri Thaiveegan hails from Ipoh and has a degree in criminology. He has also undergone training in several areas including disaster victim identification with the Australian Federal Police, hostage negotiation in Thailand, police management in the US and an international police command course at the Royal Malaysia Police College.
