Rohingya Kids A Day in the Life of

in Malaysia

H

ajidah Abdul Razak (top), who was born in Myanmar, migrated to Malaysia a year ago. Hajidah, 4, took a boat with her mother and siblings and arrived in Malaysia after 15 days, to join her father. Her father came to Malaysia six years ago to start a new life and only allowed the rest of his family to join after his life was a bit settled. Hajidah’s mother said she was well on the boat for that 15 days. The family paid RM10,000 to the boatman to bring them here. Hajidah’s father paints road-surface markings and is paid RM40 a day. When asked how life in Malaysia is treating them, she gives a thumbs-up and says “bagus.” Natasha Giasuddin (right) plays with her friends while waiting for their school trip to Taylors College for an English class. Natasha, who was born here eight years ago, says “I do not want to go back to Myanmar. My father says that life in my village is bad.” Natasha, speaks fluent Malay, and even sings Malay rhymes with her friends. MATA @ NSTP Images
