The same river on usual day, May 2014. File picture
Soccer On River Bed The extreme weather which has caused several river to dry out has brought sheer fun to a bunch of teenagers at two villagers at Tangga Krai in Kuala Krai, when they ‘converted’ a dry part of Sungai Kelantan into a beach ball ground. The teens from Kampung Rakit and Kampung Kenak use this dried up area of the river for their daily evening ‘beach ball’ game. The dried up area looked like an island which could be accessed by boats or a short swim in the MATA @ NSTP Images
water. Surprisingly, the ‘beach soccers’ is not only a hype among the teens but even adults took up the opportunity to join in the fun. The El Nino which started in March has turned many rivers in the state into small island-like plots making it easily accessible by small boats and even on foot to those living on the riverbanks. The rivers are expected to flow as usual after the end of El Nino and the start of the wet season La Nina in August or September. BY FATHIL ASRI
