A BIOLOGICALLY INSPIRED CIVIC FACILITY WITHIN HOUSTON, TEXAS THAT RELIES ON EXPOITATION OF THE EXISTING SPATIAL MEMORIES OF COMMUNITY WITH ADDITIONAL STIMULI TO MEND THE ESTRANGED BODY AND MIND. THE BUILT REFORMS THE BRAIN. MANIPULATED VISUAL PATTERN REBUILDS DIMINISHED NEURAL CONNECTIONS FRAGMENTED BY ALZHEIMER’S DISEAS RESTORING BOTH MEMORY AND IDENTITY. SOCIETAL DETACHMENT, IRRATIONAL REALITY, DISORIENTED IDENTITY: SIDE EFFECTS OF ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE. IN NORMATIVE CIRCUMSTANCES, THE MIND AND BODY INTIMATELY CONSOCIATE TO FORM THE SELFDOM OF A HUMAN BEING. UNCONTROLLABLY, ALZHEIMER’S DISEAE FRACTURES THIS HARMONIOUS CONNECTION. UNDERSTANDING THE INNER WORKINGS OF THE BRAIN, THE CONNECTION BETWEEN SPATIAL NAVIGATION AND MEMORY, IS CRUCIAL TO REFORMING SPACE FOR THOSE WITH DISCONNECTED NEURAL NETWORKS. IT IS THROUGH THE LAYERS OF ORDER AND CONNECTED STIMULANTS THAT MEMORY SPARKS. VISUAL PERCEPTION AND STIMULATING ARTS APCES BOND COMMUNITY MEMBERS, STUDENTS AND MEMORY LOSS PATIENTS. THIS SYSTEMIZATION RELINKS MEMORY FROM A BIOLOGICAL BASIS REMINDING EACH LOST IDENTITY OF INNATE SPATIAL MOVEMENTS, SOCIETAL RELATIONS AND A SENSE OF SELF.

AS A CONCEPTUAL PROPOSAL FOR THE LONDON PUBLIC LIBRARY COMPETITION [VIA ARCHMEDIUM] THIS PARTNER PROJECT [WITH FELLOW STUDENTS MAYA SASSOON AND CHRIS DAEMMRICH] FOCUSES ON EXPERIENTIAL QUALITIES ALONG A SINGULAR PATH. THE TOWER OF BOOKS AND THE CIRCULATION SPINE COMPOSE THE TWO MAJOR COMPONENTS. LOCATED ADJACENT TO THE THAMES RIVER, THE PROJECT SITS NEAR THE SHARD AMONG OTHER HISTORICAL LANDMARKS. THE LIBRARY PROPOSAL PULLS PEOPLE INTO SPACES WITHOUT DISTRACTING FROM THE HISTORICAL VALUE OF THE LAND.

THE DESIGN REVOLVES AROUND THE TWO CENTRAL THEATERS: THE BLACKBOX AND THE PERFORMANCE THEATER. THE CONCEPT IS BASED ON THE INITIAL STUDY OF SPOT ROTATION TURNS. THESE CATEGORICAL TURNS INVOLVE THE ROTATION OF THE BODY WHILE MAINTAINING BALANCE OF THE HEAD. THIS PREVENTS DIZZINESS WHEN TURNING ABOUT THE ROOM. SPOT ROTATION TURNS ARE EITHER SINGULARLY OR DUALLY BALANCED. THIS MEANING, THE DANCER EITHER ROTATION AROUND ONE LEG OR BOTH. THEREFORE THE DESIGN OF THIS TANZAKADEMIE TAKES THE TWO MAIN THEATERS AND CREATES CIRCULATION AROUND THEM. THE TWO THEATERS ARE THE FOCAL POINTS FOR THE DESIGN AND CREATE THE OBJECT IN A BOX PARTI. THE BLACKBOX BREAKS AWAY FROM THE RIGID, ORTHAGONAL STRUCTURE OF THE MAIN PROGRAM, WHICH IS SITUATED IN A TWO BAR SYSTEM. THE BLACKBOX IS ROTATED WHILE STILL MAINTAINING A WHOLISTIC ORTHAGONAL SHAPE. THE MAIN THEATER SPACE, HOWEVER, BREAKS THE LANGUAGE OF THE PROGRAM COMPLETELY. THIS HIGHLIGHTS THE ACOUSTICAL QUALITIES OF THE SPACE AND MAES IT THE MOST PROMINENT FEATURE. THE FACADE SYSTEM ENHANCES THIS IDEA BY ALLOWING STREET VISUALS OF THE TWO THEATERS. IN ADDITION THE HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL LOUVERS, LIGHTS SHELVES, PROVIDE SHADE FROM THE EASTERN AND WESTERN SUN RAYS WHILE HINTING IN FORM AT THE UNUSUAL SHAPE OF THE PERFORMANCE THEATER. THE MAIN STRUCTURE CONSISTS OF STELL BEAMS, OPAQUE GLASS AND METAL SHEETING FOR THE LIGHT SHELVES, WHILE THE THEATERS ARE CONSTRUCTED OUT OF GLULAM WOOD BEAMS.

PLACEMENT, PROCESSION, MATERIALITY, AND THE POETIC EMERGE FROM PART TO WHOLE GEOMETRIES WITHIN THE GRID. FORMAL GRIDS OF THE SITE AND REPEATED GEOMETRIES SELECT THE LOCATION FOR THE INTERVENTION. ARRANGEMENT ORIGINATES IN A LINEAR SEQUENCE, FOLLOWING THE EXISTENT LANGUAGE OF GEOMETRY. THE LINEAR ASSEMBLY OF ELEMENTS LINKS THE INVETERATE CEMETERY AND ADDITION OF THE BRION FAMILY. WITHIN THE THRESHOLD, THE COMPOSITION OF INDIVIDUAL SENSES COLLECTS INTO A WHOLE PROCESSION. AN INTERMINGLING OF SENSORY CHANGES: TACTILE, SOUND, SCENT, AND SIGHT, GUIDE THE PASSAGE

LOCATED ALONG THE HISTORIC VIA GIULIA IN ROME, ITALY, THIS MUSEUM CONNECTS ROMAN RUINS, RESIDENCES AND EDUCATIONAL COMPONENTS ADJACENT TO A SCHOOL, PIAZZA AND ANTI-MAFIA CORPORATION. MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE MUSEO LINKS THE TIBER RIVER TO VIA GIULIA. THIS LINK IS FUNDAMENTALLY DERIVED BY THE DESIGN OF VIA GIULIA ITSELF, WHICH CONNECTS THE VATICAN THROUGH PUBLIC GATHERING SPACES. THE HISTORIC BLUEPRINT PLACED THE PROJECT WITHIN THE SITE: AN INVERTED PUBLIC PIAZZA BECAME THE BUILT INTERVENTION. EXTENSIONS OF THE INVERTED PLANS PROVIDED THE PHYSICAL LINKS OVER THE TWO MAIN PUBLIC PASSAGEWAYS, VIA GIULIA AND THE TIBER RIVER.

ARTIST COMMUNITY AND A RESEARCH INSTITUTION DEDICATED TO THE STUDY OF THE LIVING TRADITIONS OF THE BUILDING ARTS. IT’S MISSION; TO ENSURE THAT THE PUBLIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE BUILDING TRADES AS AS ART FORM CONTINUES TO EVOLVE OVER TIME. DESIGNED FOR THE RESIDENTS OF THE ST ROCH COMMUNITY. PROJECT IS BASED OFF OF THE VERBS LINKING AND FOLDING TO ATTACH VIEWS WITHIN THE STRUCTURE TOWARDS KEY STRUCTURAL FEATURES AROUND THE SITE. THE VERB LINKING, WAS BASED OFF AN ANALYSIS OF THE OVERALL ST ROCH COMMUNITY IN TERMS OF LINKING THE PRESENT TO THE PAST, LINKING NEIGHBORS BACK INTO THE COMMUNITY, AND THE LINKING OF SPACES TOGETHER.

VARIOUS GRAPHIC STUDIES OF OBJECTS, BUILDINGS, NEIGHBORHOODS AND CITIES. THE FIRST LOOKS AT THE MOTION OF A FLARING TOOL. HAND DRAFTING AND PHOTOSHOP WERE USED TO EXPLORE THE FUNCTION OF THE OBJECT FOR A LATER TRANSLATION INTO A MUSEUM DESIGN. THE SECOND PROJECT DIAGRAMS LOUIS KAHN’S UNITARIAN CHURCH. THE CHURCH EXPLORES ILLUMINANCE FROM LIGHT MONITORS, UNIFYING IDEALS OF SOCIETY, CONCENTRICITY, AND PROCESSION OF SPIRITUALITY. THE THIRD PROJECT LOOKS AT THE TREME NEIGHBORHOOD OF NEW ORLEANS. THROUGH DIAGRAM AND LATER MODEL FORM, THE NEIGHBORHOOD HISTORY OF FORMER FARMING LOT LINES BECOMES APARENT. THE MODEL DEPICTS THE 1800’S ON ONE SIDE, WITH PRESENT DAY ON THE OTHER. NEW ORLEANS MAPPING UNCOVERS DISCREPENCIES OF THE CITY THROUGHOUT HISTORY. FINALLY, THE JOURNEY WITHIN ROME’S DAILY LIFE IS DOCUMENTED. POINTS OF VISUAL INTEREST CONSUME THE CITY. CAMPO DEI FIORI, AS A FAVORITE LOCAL SPOT, HOUSES A UNIQUE MIX OF SHOPS, RESTAURANTS, LOCALS AND TOURISTS DAY AND NIGHT. THE ORGANIC ORGANIZATION OF THE AREA NODS TO THE UNIFORM, ADJACENT PALAZZO FARNESE.
