What type of chemicals will your squeegee be exposed to? What type of surface are you going to use the squeegee on? “Those are just a few of the questions many people don’t think of, but are extremely important when trying to

“Like many companies, (Dorden Squeegees) has had some issues receiving raw material, but we have found success with secondary sources.” ~ Bruce Gale “Like many companies, (Dorden Squeegees) has had some issues receiving raw material, but we have found success with secondary sources. That has allowed us to supply customers with the products they need. The challenge now is to keep pricing reasonable. That is very difficult when considering raw material issues, increased labor costs and the current rate of inflation. Everybody is in the same boat when it comes to inflation. On top of that is the labor issue. It’s hard to find labor, and once found, it’s very expensive to keep labor.” Gale added: “Thankfully, we have employees who show up every day and help our company carry on. We can’t make our products without them. We employ very loyal, hardworking people. We are grateful for the team we have put together.” Despite today’s tumultuous times, Gale is optimistic about the future of his company, along with the continual need for squeegees.

“Our objective is to help customers take advantage of our high quality items. The squeegee is a very stable product. It’s designed to move liquid. There are a wide variety of reasons why a person needs a squeegee, and that will continue,” Gale said. “As far as Dorden Squeegees is concerned, sales have dramatically improved over last year, and are certainly better than when the pandemic hit. We are on a very strong and upward turn. I think that growth, in part, is due to a rebound in business from the height of the pandemic. “It’s also helped that Dorden has remained customer centric. there are other factors, the difficulty in importing mops was the primary cause of the increase in sales to domestic mop makers. As with other manufacturers, the company has battled increased raw material prices, longer lead times and staffing challenges, but has been able to sustain the growth that began in mid-2020. “We have also been making capital investments in adding machinery and updating equipment in order to add capacity,” Ricketts said. “We have been able to reduce overtime, while increasing production over the course of a typical five-day schedule.”

“We work hard to keep our employees informed, involved, positive and happy. We think that has a great return on quality as well.”

When it comes to customer service, BoBuck Mills stresses quality and delivery and will carry dedicated stock based on order quantities and frequency, Ricketts said. The company has a dedicated designer and an inhouse studio to help customers design and build fabrics to their exact specifications. “With close proximity to annual design markets, our team has access to the top home and fashion trends before they hit mainstream consumers,” Ricketts said. “We work closely with our partners in the industry to customize patterns and colors to best match our customers’ needs, creating unique tapes to accommodate a wide range of styles and tastes. “We also work hard to keep our employees informed, involved, positive and happy. Borghi goes beyond just providing equipment to produce “the product.” It provides specialty machinery, macro- and micro-assembly equipment and machinery to automate packaging and other requirements that a given product may require, before it is completely finished and ready to go into the warehouse or out the door. Borghi’s flexibility in offering custom solutions is what keeps its level of technology fresh and cutting-edge. PG 36

Products: Boucherie USA Inc., has been selling Boucherie brush machines, sophisticated multi-component injection molds and packaging equipment in North, Central and South America for more than 40 years. Boucherie products include tufting machines for brooms, household and personal care brushes, as well as toothbrushes. Household brush production lines: The Aeola concept of household brush machinery combines the advantages of Ovale technology with the simplicity and reduced footprint of a single filling tool machine. The very high speed and elimination of the index time gives this machine a very high output. Aeola is available as a manually loaded drill and fill machine, but also as a fully automated production cell. The Ovale is a high-output carrousel machine with two drills and two filling tools for the production of a wide variety of household brushes. The unique feature of this machine is that the carousel

moves from drilling to filling without a stop of the filling tools, which boosts the production. Full 5-axis control of the brush holders, on-board trimming and a very universal handle feeder make this a highly-automated yet flexible machine. The DMU machine is a small flexible drilling and filling machine with a very short change-over time. The brand new NM machine is a very compact and manually loaded machine for a wide variety of brooms and brushes. Loading happens far away from the continuously running filling tool, so the machine is safe yet as productive as many double headers. Toothbrush Production Lines and Work Centers: Boucherie has developed a variety of toothbrush manu facturing equipment. These range from the stand-alone Hepta tufting machine, through the Hepta-FM, which has an integrated finishing machine and a universal handle feeder, all the way up to the double-header Hepta-2-FM machine. All of these machines are now available with the new Hepta filling tool that runs at up to 1200 tufts per minute, and are completely re-engineered for ease of maintenance and affordability. For mass production of high quality toothbrushes, Boucherie has the very compact Hepta-2-FM double header, but also offers the double-headed or tripleheaded TB32-Flexi and TB33-Flexi cells. These can produce up to 80 brushes per minute when the filling tools run in parallel, or for complex brushes with two different hole sizes when the filling tools run sequentially. Because this type of machine is modular in its construction, flexibility is built into the concept of the machine. Anchorless Toothbrush Production Lines and Work Centers: In the field of machinery for the oral care industry, Boucherie established a leadership position in anchorless technology with the introduction of the AFT/CNC machine more than 20 years ago. With the new PTt machine, however, Boucherie is making a giant step in flexibility of brush designs and bringing anchorless toothbrush production to more toothbrush makers. The PTt machine works with normal toothbrush handles with pre-cored holes, and requires no brush head plate. This makes for more compact brush heads, with BBM MAGAZINE | May/June 2022

2022 | SUPPLIERS DIRECTORY a more comfortable brushing feeling because less plastic is holding the tufts. Block tufts, strip tufts and various combinations of tuft angles widen the range of design options for the toothbrush heads. The machine is very suitable for the processing of tapered filaments, and rubber elements can be integrated in the brush head, such as massaging fingers or tongue cleaners. The machine works with pre-cut filament pucks, and end-rounding of the bristle tips happens in-line in the fiberbox, without the need for inter mediate stocking or cumbersome transfers of raw materials. IDM Machine: The IDM is a compact carousel machine for the highspeed production of inter-dental and mascara brushes. It is now possible to produce up to 95 high-quality brushes per minute, even while using the smallest wire sizes, since the brush remains in the same clamp throughout the whole production process. The IDM is available in versions with spool feed of the nylon, or with fiber boxes for precut filaments. An integrated vision system for the automatic inspection of

finished brushes is also available. The automatic brush handle assembly machine HMU is new: This compact machine will assemble up to 90 brush handles per minute onto interdental brushes, using a unique and patented ultrasonic embedding technique, resulting in a fast process that will give extremely high extraction forces. Injection Molds: Boucherie produces single-component molds, multi-component molds with manual or automatic transfer, and multi-component, high cavitation, valve gated, hot runner stack molds. Boucherie molds are used to produce a wide range of consumer, medical and engineering products. Packaging Machines: Cooperating with ILLIG Maschinenbau GmbH, of Heilbronn, Germany, Boucherie now has available a high-performance packaging line for carton blisters in the range, allowing brushes to be placed in an ecologically friendly and attractive package. Furthermore, form, fill and seal blister packaging machines for trad itional blisters are available, in heat seal and high frequency seal versions, for toothbrushes and personal care brushes. All of these may be operated as stand-

alone machines or integrated into one or two tufting machines. 22 Briarwood Products LLC See Ad On Page 39 2900 Bradwell Ave. Cleveland, OH 44109 USA Phone: 216-398-1107 Email: bp@briarwoodproducts.com Website: www.BriarwoodProducts.com Products: Briarwood Products is an innovator and manufacturer of safe correctional cleaning tools. FEIBP President Shares Information On 2022 Meeting In Prague September 21-23

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 62nd FEIBP Congress has had to be postponed twice. After three years, with the Corona measures and travel restrictions lifted, the European brushware industry is ready for a physical congress, to be held, for the first time, in the Czech Republic. There are brush makers in the Czech Republic, but other countries in Central Europe as well, who will be invited to join us at the congress to get acquainted with the FEIBP and its activities. All arrangements have been completed, and a great program is established. Look at the congress part of the renewed website www.eurobrush.com, with all relevant information. Keynote speakers on “Succession Management” and “Sustainability” are confirmed; interesting working groups are, as always, part of the program, and we will have another Innovation Award competition. For the social part of the congress, Prague is a fantastic city with a variety of opportunities, and no worries about a good meal. What really counts is to have you coming to Prague in September for a challenging and convivial FEIBP congress. We will keep you informed. Jones Family Of Companies Welcomes Back Third Generation Jones Associate As New COO

“The Jones Family of Companies continues to grow and improve its operations while strengthening its position as a nonwoven manufacturing leader. The most recent step in this mission is the re-hiring of West Tennessee native, Scott Butler, as its new chief operating officer,” according to a press release. “Scott was born in Jackson, TN, and raised in Humboldt, TN. He earned an undergraduate degree at Union University in organizational leadership and earned an MBA at UT Knoxville. “Butler is a third generation Jones associate, following in the footsteps of his parents and grandparents. His father spent 43 years at Jones. Butler began his career at Jones in 1992, on the third shift, running yarn equipment on the plant floor. After mastering all the equipment, he moved into maintenance, serving as maintenance supervisor, ISO lead auditor, plant management, quality manager, operations manager, and vice president of operations.

Scott Butler

“He left Jones at the end of December 2018, to care for his family and wife, who was battling cancer. Following her recovery, Butler started a consulting and industrial maintenance services company where he was highly successful assisting companies across the U.S. to be more efficient and productive, while building strong and supportive teams.

“Scott works to develop a team of associates who maximize efforts to make the highest quality of product on time, every time. He believes in highly disciplined operations and lean standards," said Ralph Jones, executive chairman. "Scott’s passion is assisting associates and teams to maximize their potential and add value to the associate, the team, and the company, as well as our customer and suppliers.” “I am honored to have the opportunity to return to The Jones Family of Companies. I already have a relationship with many team members and am eager to work with them again. Also, I am looking forward to earning the trust of the new Jones team members I will soon get to know,” said Butler. “Maintaining the integrity of Jones in the industry is especially important to me. I look forward to working with our customers and suppliers to assure them that Jones is a key partner for their success. Jones is full of dedicated people who make up ‘The Family.’”
