T

he sun did not set on the life of Kathleen Elizabeth Jackson on May 15, 2015, but rather it shined and danced across the blue sky. The chapter of her earthly life came to a close and her heavenly life began. From the day of her birth on February 18, 1942 to Eley & Catherine Wood in Salisbury, NC, Kathleen was destined to touch and forever alter the lives of everyone she came in contact with. She attended Cleveland Elementary School (Shelby, NC); her family then moved to Lincolnton, NC where she attended Oaklawn Middle School and Newbold High School. At an early age, Kathleen moved to New York City to spread her wings and live. She retired from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Day Care Center in 2001 where she worked as the Head Cook. Kathleen’s work for the Lord began at an early age when she played the piano for Sunday service at her church as a child. Kathleen accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1970. Since then, her work in the church did not slow down until her health began to fail in recent years. “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might.”-Ecclesiastes 9:10. This was the road map for Kathleen’s life of service because she loved God, His church and His people. A couple of the positions held during her years of service were the first Daycare Director at Malta Street COGOP, Assistant Missionary Leader, Sunday School Superintendent for almost 20 years, Usher Board Director and Teacher. Kathleen sang with passion and grace. She was a member of The Charis Inspirers, the church choir and the official “wedding singer” for so many couples. She was also the Mother of the Choir for the youth choir and they could always count on her to cheer them on. She also drove the church van to pick up students for Sunday School and assisted several Church of God of Prophecy locations in their initial start up process. She never got tired of working for the Lord. Not only did she love the Lord but she loved her family and friends with all of her heart and soul. She did everything and anything she could to support them. Kathleen enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. In her leisure time, she loved to travel (especially on cruise ships), she loved to sing and fellowship and if anyone knows her well, they know she LOVED ice cream; could never get enough! Kathleen was preceded in death by her father Eley Wood, her mother Catherine Oates, her husband Rupert Jackson, five sisters Geraldine, Aileen, Fannie, Jeannie and Evangeline, son Marcus Wood, daughter Michelle Robinson, nephew, Walter Surratt Jr. and Charles Robinson (married 1966-1970). She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters Charlene (Dwayne) Robinson-Lattimore and Angelise Jackson, five grandchildren Curtis (Lisa) Robinson, Chardonnae Lattimore, Cheyenne Lattimore, Addison Bishop and Kayla Johnson; her first great granddaughter on the way Chloe Robinson; one sister Jeanette (Gilbert) Henry; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, God-children, close friends and church members that she loved dearly.
