Global fund set up to protect cultural heritage

PARIS - A global fund to protect cultural heritage in war zones, was launched in March at the Louvre Museum in Paris and has so far raised $100m (£78m). The fund was initiated by France and the United Arab Emirates with former French President François Hollande and the vice premier minister of the Emirates, Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan present at the ceremony. The initiative was first proposed during a conference held in December 2016 in Abu Dhabi and the fund officially established as the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflict Areas (ALIPH).
