UNDERSTANDING THE VENDOR-AGENT RELATIONSHIP

We are often asked to clarify the roles and responsibilities of agents in property transactions, particularly in high-value markets. It’s crucial to understand that in any real estate transaction, there are often multiple parties involved.

Buyers frequently pay buyer’s agents, or relocation specialists, to represent their interests. These agents are contractually obligated to secure the property on the most favourable terms; their primary goal is to negotiate the lowest possible price and best conditions - naturally. They are often not working in isolation and are skilled in leveraging every tool at their disposal to drive down price and/or secure more favourable terms in the contract.

As a vendor it is not safe to assume that all agents involved in the transaction are working towards the same goal. This misunderstanding can put vendors

at a disadvantage, as it ignores the adversarial nature of negotiations. It’s essential to have a professional on your side who understands not just the property market, but the strategies used by buyers and their agents.

We take pride in our specialist expertise in highvalue residency. We understand the market and market trends, know when to push and when to hold firm and have the experience to handle all parties involved in complex negotiations.

Our duty is to protect our clients’ interests at every stage of the process.

When you engage us, you are not just hiring an agent, you are securing a team that works exclusively for you, ensuring that your property is sold at its full value, on terms that suit you best.

Welcome

2025 is a momentous year for all of us at Hettich! It marks 125 years since our great grandfather, EW Hettich, opened his jewellery business at 1 King Street. Now, four generations later, we are also celebrating the opening of our new flagship store at 2-4 King Street. After all this time, effort and anticipation, it felt wonderful to welcome our customers through the doors – to say we were excited would be a huge understatement!

We want every visit to Hettich to have a special magic touch and our new environment will take that to new levels – two new levels to be precise. Our ground floor is dedicated to high-end watchmakers, Rolex and Patek Philippe, and atop a stunning spiral staircase is a lavish jewellery

showroom which allows us to display more exquisite pieces than before. We’re delighted to introduce you to three stunning Italian brands that are new to Hettich, as well as three exciting new lines of our own jewellery collections.

We’ve also gained some new members to our wonderful team, including our talented Head Jeweller, Adam Bryant. We are very aware that we are only as good as the people we work with, and we are so lucky to have such a hardworking and dedicated team who all embody the strong Hettich values that have served us so well.

We want to say a huge thank you for supporting our family business for the last 125 years! We treasure the relationships we build with

our customers and it is always an honour to help you celebrate occasions and milestones in your family’s journey.

We are dedicating this edition of 1900 to our beloved dad, Tony Chinn, who passed away on 15th February. He was responsible for transforming Hettich into the success it is today and the reason we are celebrating 125 years of our family business. We’re grateful that he was able to experience the opening of our new store and we’re proud to be able to continue his extraordinary legacy.

We hope you enjoy reading our family story.

Best wishes, Jeff and Nick Chinn

A New Home for Hettich

On 1st February 2025, Nick and Jeffrey Chinn cut the ribbon to officially open Hettich’s new flagship store and toasted the start of a new chapter of their family story.

It’s been 125 years since Edwin Wyndham Hettich began his jewellery business at 1 King Street which has seen four generations of his family at the helm. To stand the test of time, Hettich has kept evolving and there was no room for complacency in this family business. The biggest investment in the future of Hettich followed the decision to expand into a larger premises and, in 2021, Nick and Jeffrey Chinn acquired 2-4 King Street. Jeffrey explained:

“Whilst we have always loved our cherished building at 1 King Street, we have known for some time that it was just too small to satisfy our needs and those of our brands. Our new building on the opposite side of King Street has given us the space we need.”

When the search commenced for a new premises, the Chinn family had precise criteria to find a building that could cater for their ambitious plans. They were determined to wait for the right building, one that was worthy of the Hettich name. It turns out, the perfect premises was looking right at them. Facing the original Hettich store, 2-4 King Street has also been a staple of St Helier since the 1930s. Jeffrey shared his joy at seeing the Hettich name adorned on another iconic landmark on the high street.

“Our great grandfather and founder, EW Hettich, always admired the 1930s Burton building. He used to tell dad that it was the kind of building we should have as it was made of steel and concrete. I’m sure EW would be thrilled to see how Hettich has evolved and that this fine structure now belongs to us. In our works we have paid great respect to the Art Deco heritage of the building and have restored it to its former glory. We are absolutely delighted with the outcome and hope that visitors to Hettich and St Helier will love it too!”

Hettich set out to create a customer experience that has never before been seen in Jersey and, after more than three years of hard work and collaboration, their dream became a reality. Nick Chinn shared insights from the journey from concept to completion:

“We were lucky to have had the original concept of our store designed by a world-renowned luxury retail architect who has designed stores in major cities across the globe. We wanted the building to be able to stand strong on any of the world principal shopping streets. We also wanted the legacy of this beautiful

JEFFREY CHINN

building to be honoured in the whole store design, taking notes from its original design in 1932. We have had a great local team holding our hands throughout the whole process of delivering the original concept and we are thrilled with the outcome.”

It was also important to Nick and Jeffrey that their flagship store exudes a level of luxury that is reflective of their high-end brands. Nick explained:

“The brands we work with put incredible effort into producing incredible timepieces and we, as high-end retailers, need to express the same kind of attention to detail and care when we sell them to our customers.”

Hettich is proud of be part of the worldwide network of Official Rolex Retailers and have partnered with the luxury watchmaker since 1935. This relationship has only strengthened over the last 90 years and Rolex will always be a focal point at Hettich. The exclusive Rolex showroom in the new store has been designed to radiate the values of their iconic crown: excellence, precision and attention to detail. It also features a service centre with a dedicated and passionate team of watch specialists who have completed extensive Rolex training to truly understand the craftsmanship behind each timepiece.

For nearly 60 years, Hettich has enjoyed a unique relationship with another high-end Swiss watchmaker, Patek Philippe. The new store has also honoured this partnership with a dedicated showroom displaying a diverse selection of their

NICK CHINN

magnificent timepieces, along with tributes to Patek Philippe’s innovative complications. Like Hettich, Patek Philippe is an independent, family-run business, and multiple generations of both families have worked closely together. Jeffrey recalls:

“In the early days, Henri Stern [Patek Philippe’s former president] used to visit dad in Jersey with his family. The presidency has now been passed on to Henri’s grandson, Thierry Stern, and we’ve loved welcoming him to the island in recent years. With our shared values of independence, tradition, quality and service, Hettich has proudly become part of the Patek Philippe family.”

Once customers have revelled in the luxury timepieces that occupy the ground floor of the new store, they can ascend the stunning spiral staircase to discover a lavish jewellery showroom, with ornate chandeliers overlooking the elegant displays.

The larger retail space in the new premises has created the perfect opportunity to build

JEFFREY CHINN

relationships with new brands. Hettich now proudly showcases three of Italy’s finest jewellery brands – Marco Biego, Annamaria Cammilli and Serafino Consoli. Each are equally beautiful and quintessentially Italian, but with a truly unique appeal.

Hettich are also excited to introduce three new lines of their own jewellery collections - Aura, Soleil and Rebel. There is also now a dedicated bridal area in store designed for couples looking for that extra special moment in choosing their engagement rings and wedding bands.

The opening of the flagship store at 2-4 King Street has been a dream come true for Nick and Jeffrey, but the move to a larger premises does not mean that they will be handing over the keys to 1 King Street. Nick shared his fondness for Hettich’s original home:

“1 King Street is a massive part of our history and we have shared incredible moments with our clients and partners in there over the years – we would have been very sad to see it occupied by another business. I remember it so well and all the various store designs from a very young age. I also remember visiting my father in his office upstairs, raiding the

gifts cupboard as a child and buying my first Rolex with my first bonus.”

During 2025 they will create state-of-the-art watch making and jewellery workshops on the first and second floors of 1 King Street. It is crucial that Hettich can repair and maintain jewellery and watches in house as much as possible due to the complexities in sending items off island. They will also carry out a full refurbishment of the ground floor retail space and the building exterior to breathe a little life into the old building.

Nick and Jeffrey are incredibly optimistic about the future and continuing the work that EW Hettich started in 1900. Nick concluded:

“We are committed to continuing our family legacy and I think the business will go from strength to strength. Not only can we now look after our watch brands in a much better environment, but we also have refreshed new collections of Hettich jewellery and other famous jewellery collections to offer our valued clients. O

“We're now looking at the younger generation of Chinns to take over the business after Jeff and I.”

THE ART OF YOU

Adam Bryant GETTING TO KNOW...

HEAD JEWELLER

With a passion for art and creativity, and a ‘connection’ with tools, Adam has spent the last 3 decades perfecting his craft. From testing the waters in a beginners’ jewellery course in his native South Africa, Adam is now at the helm of Hettich’s cutting edge workshop and spends his time creating the most exquisite bespoke pieces of jewellery. Adam briefly downed his tools so we could get to know more about him and his path to Head Jeweller at Hettich.

Interview by Emma Duncan

When did you first develop an interest in jewellery?

I had finished my national service in the army in South Africa and was hoping to go and work with my father building sports cars, but there were no positions available except for in the upholstery department. Well, I didn’t want to be an upholsterer and so I was at home, bored and reading a comic, and a flyer for a jewellery shop fell out onto my lap and I looked at it and thought “I could do that.”

I did a few beginner courses to ‘check it out’ and not only enjoyed the process but discovered I was fairly competent. One day, whilst buying guitar strings, I met a girl who was taking the course with me and she mentioned that she

knew of a jeweller who was looking for an apprentice, so I went to meet him and started my five year apprenticeship the following day.

I’ve always had a ‘connection’ with tools and have always loved art, whether that be music, sculpture, painting, or pretty much any creative endeavour that results in an item of beauty or that creates an emotional response… and jewellery definitely fits that description.

It really is a case though of ‘the more you know the better it gets’ and after 32 years of learning as much as I could about the manufacturing processes, I have finally arrived at a company that not only deals with the quality of goods that every jeweller aspires

to, but is also open to input that I and other staff members might have. This is a rare thing!!!

How long have you been making bespoke jewellery?

My apprenticeship started in 1992, and like most apprentices, I had all the basic jobs to do at first, to bring my skills up to a certain level. It took about a year for me to be making bespoke jewellery but as time passed, the pieces I created were able to be more and more complex.

Do you remember the first piece of jewellery you created?

Like most goldsmiths, the first piece I ever created was probably a plain, flat wedding band. I was

so proud of myself I made eight of them…one for each finger on my hands!

What’s the most extravagant piece of jewellery you’ve ever created?

Oh my… there have been so many wonderful pieces that I’ve been part of, and so I have many memories of amazing jewellery. BUT part of the job is not talking too much about what other people are spending money on, so I will answer the question with this: recently at Hettich, we purchased a wonderful 10.53ct round diamond and I was asked to create a stock mount for it. It was a fun job creating something unique for such a large stone and, as you can imagine, is worth a pretty penny! It’s in our windows so pop in and have a look - it’s pretty extravagant!!

What is your favourite gemstone and what makes it so special?

Honestly, I think that once you start working with high end stones you can no longer have a favourite. For example, I might see a chrome tourmaline that is so clean and well cut that it outshines an averagely cut D-flawless diamond.

There are great stones and there are stones that are not so great. Give me a beautiful stone to work with and that is my favourite stone until the next one comes along.

Bespoke jewellery is completely unique. What would you say the design says about a person?

I think the majority of people are fairly open to ideas when they commission a piece and simply want something unique, as opposed to something that ‘represents’ them.

Unless someone has a rigidly designed ‘image’ that they put out to the world (Slash or Cardi-B for example), most people are open to a vast array of ideas.

Jewellery, like people, is very diverse and sometimes an idea and a person click.

Do you get more clients designing bespoke jewellery for themselves or someone special?

Definitely for other people. Jewellery is still a great gift, especially if it’s something you’ve designed or had a

hand in designing. It’s funny, even after 32 years I still get a kick out of the process; designing with the client, making the item, sourcing and setting the stones and then seeing their faces when they pick up the completed piece. I absolutely love it!!

When it comes to the higher end items though I imagine it’s more personal or something for couples.

Hettich has been a staple of Jersey’s High Street since 1900. What do you think is the success to their longevity?

Definitely their ability to adapt and their dedication to not only the industry as a whole, but to the Hettich name which is synonymous with high end jewellery and watches on Jersey.

I’ll tell you a story... Recently, somebody brought in a stone and asked us if we could identify it for them. I had a few ideas as to what it might be but couldn’t be 100% sure, so I went to Jeff to discuss it. His eyes lit up and before you knew it, he and I, and a couple of the other staff members, were having discussions and getting the old machines out and it really was a joy to see Jeff’s passion for the most basic of jobs still so obviously evident, despite the fact that he deals with the top echelons of the industry.

Passion is important in this industry and there is a lot of it here at Hettich, from the new people in the showroom to the experienced salespeople, to the watchmakers, myself and Nick and Jeff… there is passion for what we do and the goods we create and work with, in abundance, and that is why Hettich is top of the game.

What jewellery trends should we be looking out for in 2025?

Our marketing team would probably know more about that than I do, but if I had to think about it and give an opinion, I’d say things are going to get really wild in jewellery!!

With the advances in manufacturing technology and AI I think we’re going to see jewellery that we could only dream of in the past and maybe even pieces we COULDN’T dream of because we’re too organic. I know handmade jewellery is unique and special, but there is space for artificially created artwork in this world and, as much as I love and appreciate the handmade, I’m excited to see what the future brings! O

“Passion is important in this industry and there is a lot of it here at Hettich”

Antony Chinn

1934-2025

A Tribute to the Hettich Patriarch

Antony (Tony) Chinn was born in 1934 to Frieda and James B. Chinn and was immediately earmarked by his grandfather, Edwin W. Hettich, to take the reins of the family business. Tony was the middle child, born between his two sisters, Jean and Edwina.

During his time at Victoria College, Tony developed a passion for art, and so he embarked on a three-year course in jewellery and design at London Central School. With talent and ambition in abundance, he became the first Jerseyman to become a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain. In 1958, he won the prestigious George Greenough Trophy, a national competition in which jewellers demonstrated how to achieve excellence in their profession.

Upon his return to Jersey, Tony brought his training and enthusiasm to the family business. His grandfather, Edwin, was dedicating more of his time to public service and the general running of the business fell to his daughter, Agnes (Tony’s aunt). She was a meticulous and astute businesswoman and Tony learned a lot from her during the decade they worked together, although he did admit that she could be quite fierce.

As Tony was taking on more responsibilities in the family business, he was starting a family of his own and his first child, Jeffrey, was born in 1959. Tony then welcomed his daughter, Juliette, and two more sons, Joel and Nicholas. He also became a doting grandfather to seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

In the 1960s, the finance industry began to prosper in Jersey and saw an influx of wealthy residents arrive on the Island. With aspirations to modernise the business, Tony saw an opportunity to build relationships with these newcomers and they soon became loyal customers of Hettich. He completely transformed the business by finding new suppliers and spent time in Italy, Germany and Switzerland in search of high-end brands to showcase in Hettich. He met with the Stern family who owned Patek Philippe and, as a result, Hettich became their official distributor. Tony and his family formed a strong friendship with the Sterns and they celebrated 50 years of their partnership with a dinner at Tony’s former school, Victoria College.

Tony was also instrumental in transforming the aesthetic of the store to reflect the luxury brands it was displaying. In 1966, he orchestrated the

first major makeover of Hettich since its opening in 1900. He wanted to move away from the Edwardian style and worked closely with a Swiss architect, much to the scepticism of his more traditional family members. This perfectly demonstrated Tony’s killer business instincts as islanders loved the new look, and the business went from strength to strength.

In the same year as Hettich’s refurbishment, Tony became a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD) and went on to be appointed Chairman of the Jersey branch in 1987. Despite his busy schedule outside of the IoD, Tony was dedicated to this role and used his position to influence positive change at the organisation. He proceeded to create a more inclusive space for newcomers to the IoD, which caused memberships to soar. He attended monthly council meetings in London where he met many of the top political figures of the time, some of whom he brought to Jersey to speak at events. He also championed the younger generation with a successful work shadow scheme where sixth formers spent time with local CEOs to gain insights into the responsibilities of running a company.

In 1990, Tony followed in his grandfather’s footsteps and entered local politics. He was elected as a senator on his first attempt and served for six years, despite his initial plan to only serve one term. He was on both the Finance Committee and Airports Committee, overseeing the refurbishment of the Elizabeth Marina and the departure hall at the airport, which Tony’s grandfather helped establish during his time in office. In 1997, Tony was chosen to unveil the ‘clasped hands’ statue at Corbiere which commemorated the incredible rescue of 300 passengers in the Saint-Malo catamaran crash.

Tony was incredibly well respected as a businessman and politician, and he was also very well liked. Charles Maine owned one of Hettich’s main competitors and he and Tony enjoyed a friendly rivalry where they would always try to get ahead of the other. In later years, Charles admitted to Tony that he would have rather they were not competitors and would have instead preferred to have been closer friends.

Tony’s life ambition was to be successful in business, which he certainly achieved. He was able to retire knowing that Hettich was in the safe hands of his sons, Jeffrey and Nick, and he was able to witness the opening of their new flagship store in a building that he had always admired. His legacy will live on through his family and his contributions to Jersey life will be felt by generations of islanders to come. O

The History of Hettich:

and counting

Hettich have evolved and changed with the times but remain committed to traditional values that have become synonymous with their name. This is their family story...

1900

Founding of Hettich

Julius Hettich, a German clock maker and jeweller, purchased premises at 1 King Street in St Helier. The son of Julius, Edwin Wyndham Hettich, took on the shop at 21 years of age and began trading as a jeweller and optician.

1921 1901

The Early Days

In 1901, Edwin married Ethel Frances Saunders, a staff member who had also worked for the previous proprietor. The following year, Ethel gave birth to their daughter Agnes, who would go on to play a key role in the future of Hettich. The couple’s second daughter, Frieda, was born in 1904 and the family lived above the shop.

A Royal Affair

In July 1921, King George V, Queen Mary and HRH Princess Mary visited Jersey. Photographs of the royal visit show that the lines of the Hettich building have changed very little in over a century.

During the 1920s, Hettich’s services included eye tests and spectacle repairs and Edwin also fitted artificial eyes! The front of the shop displayed an array of diamonds, pearls and other gems, while at the back of the shop, glass and porcelain eyes of all shapes, sizes and colours were discreetly and neatly placed in rows on flat trays.

1934

Looking to the Future

Hettich became a limited liability company and Edwin moved from above the shop to live in a newly built house above First Tower. As a keen innovator, with an interest in technological advancements, he was the proud owner of one of the first cars on the island of Jersey.

Continuing the theme of firsts, the Hettich shop was one of the earliest in Jersey to have gas-powered electric lighting. But even with an eye on the future, traditional customer service values have always remained one of Hettich’s trademarks.

In the same year, Antony (Tony) Chinn, the son of Edwin’s daughter Frieda and James B. Chinn, was born. Having no son himself, Edwin earmarked Tony to be his successor in the family business.

1939

War Time and Occupation

During the course of the island’s Occupation, Edwin’s home at First Tower was commandeered by the German Army as an officer’s billet, so he and his family moved back to live above the shop once more.

Apart from repairs, there was very little business during the years of the Occupation. The shop stayed open as long as it could, but by Liberation Day in 1945, only three silver hatpins remained in stock.

1948

The Next Generation

Edwin was elected to The States in 1948, as Deputy for St Helier. From 1953 to 1966 he was President of the Public Works Committee and, under him, work began on building the Victoria Avenue dual carriageway.

As Edwin dedicated more and more time to public service, the optical side of the business was phased out. It then fell to his eldest daughter, Agnes, to take more responsibility in the running of the shop. She was a meticulous and astute businesswoman with great integrity.

1954

Antony Chinn

Edwin’s grandson Antony (Tony) Chinn, returned to Jersey to work in the shop after completing his studies at the London Central School. He focussed on jewellery and design, and he was the first Jerseyman to become a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain. In 1958, he went on to win the prestigious George Greenough Trophy, a national competition in which jewellers demonstrated how to achieve excellence in their profession.

As Jersey started to enjoy the prosperity of the Financial Services Industry, wealthy residents moved to the island and soon became loyal customers of Hettich. Tony completely transformed the business by finding new suppliers, reinvigorating the Rolex relationship and secured the highly prized agency for Patek Philippe.

Just like his grandfather, Tony was also prominent in local affairs. He was the Chairman of the Jersey Branch of the Institute of Directors and was elected Senator to the States of Jersey in 1990.

1966

Building a Business to Last

Tony was dedicated to guaranteeing a future for Hettich, so he orchestrated a refurbishment and hired a Swiss architect to modernise the shop at 1 King Street.

The re-modelling of the shop and its new sophisticated image gave Hettich suitable surroundings for a range of world-class brands. Hettich took on the exclusive rights to Patek Philippe, strengthened its position with Omega and Rolex, and introduced a new range of Italian jewellery.

1984

Jeffrey Chinn

In 1959, Tony’s eldest son Jeffrey was born. He studied jewellery in London at St John Cass College, followed by further training at Sotheby’s and Asprey. Jeffrey then entered the family business in 1984. He soon gained a Diploma of the National Association of Goldsmiths and, like his father, become a Fellow of the Gemmological Association.

To this day, Jeffrey still manages the business and is committed to maintaining the high standards of the past, whilst keeping Hettich’s ranges at the forefront of design and innovation.

2000

Moving into the Millennium

At the end of the 20th century, Tony and Jeffrey Chinn realised that, once again, the building had outgrown its surroundings. Within the constraints placed on a listed building, work commenced on a thorough internal overhaul and gentle facelift.

Hettich reopened on 6th April 2000, and while the shop underwent a design evolution, Hettich made sure to retain its traditional character and elegant ambience.

2010

Nick Chinn

Hettich was delighted to welcome another member of the family to the business when Nick Chinn, the fourth child of Tony, returned to Jersey after getting married. Following a career in London as a Chartered Surveyor, Nick retrained as a gemmologist with the Gemmological Institute of America and gained experience working with diamonds and gemstones on London’s Bond Street.

2021

A New Era

Hettich decided to make the biggest investment in their future yet and purchased adjacent premises 2-4 King Street. Work then began to restore and develop this landmark building to create a luxury retail space worthy of the Hettich name. In August 2024, the structural phase was completed and work commenced on the Art Deco themed interior design. In November 2024, the development entered its final stage ahead of the grand opening in early 2025.

2013

Timeless elegance

Hettich completed a state-of-the-art shop and workshop refit, in keeping with the high standards of the watch houses represented in store. This allowed the team to continue to offer the very best service in an updated environment that was undeniably elegant and unmistakably Hettich.

2025

After 125 years, Hettich is still looking forward to a bright future and, on 1st February, welcomed customers into the new store at 2-4 King Street. The Hettich family story continues. O

ALPINE EAGLE

Take the Plunge

Since 1984, Breitling has pioneered the manufacture of quality watches, and their impeccable craftmanship and innovation has revolutionised watchmaking throughout history.

In the 1950s, when scuba diving was taking off and rapidly gaining popularity, Breitling saw an opportunity to design the world’s first dive chronograph. They created two Superocean watches that quickly dominated the underwater world and became the sports diver’s essential. These exceptional sea-dwellers have now received a modern-day makeover in the form of the limited edition Superocean Heritage and Superocean Automatic –available exclusively in the UK and Ireland.

BREITLING SUPEROCEAN HERITAGE B20 AUTOMATIC 42

This new, limited-edition timepiece respects the 1950s design cues of the original Superocean and combines it with modern craftmanship to create the ultimate companion for the stylish explorer.

“It’s a true luxury divers watch delivering performance and timeless design.”

Murphy, Managing Director, Breitling UK

The Superocean Heritage B20 Automatic 42 features a robust stainless-steel case paired with an ultra-hard, scratch- and shock-resistant black ceramic bezel. Its unidirectional rotating bezel includes a luminescent

marker at 12 o'clock, a nod to the watch’s origins as a dive watch and a functional tool for underwater timing. There are two strap options to compliment the anthracite dial: a classic stainless-steel mesh strap and a rubber strap that mimics the texture of the steel for a sportier look.

This watch is water-resistant to 200m and powered by the Breitling B20 Manufacture Caliber, a COSCcertified chronometer known for its precision and performance. Whether diving into the depths, or simply navigating the rhythms of daily life, the Superocean Heritage B20 Automatic 42 combines timeless elegance with cutting-edge functionality, embodying Breitling’s legacy of adventure and innovation.

BREITLING SUPEROCEAN AUTOMATIC 42

In the 1960s, when the sport of scuba diving was all the rage, Breitling set out to create the most clear-cut diver watch possible. For divers, timing is everything, so the designers at Breitling focussed on achieving maximum legibility and created the pared-down Superocean Slow Motion. Whilst the result was extremely practical, what people really fell in love with was the look.

The new Superocean retraces the Slow Motion's celebrated design codes, while adding modern features, like a ceramic-inlayed bezel and brightly coloured dials. It also remains the ideal scuba diving sidekick with broad hands and indexes in luminescent Super-LumiNova® which allow for easy readability underwater. The watch is water resistant to 300m, as well as being shock-, sand- and saltwaterresistant, and both strap options (rubber and metal bracelet) have a folding clasp that allows for microadjustments of up to 15mm for easy wear over wetsuits.

This is no longer strictly a dive watch, though — you can surf with it, swim with it, hit the beach bar with it, then wear it out to dinner. This new limited edition Superocean Automatic 42 perfectly balances the nostalgia of its heritage with a fresh new look. O

Why gold will never go out of style (or value)

Gold has long been a symbol of beauty, power, and wealth. From the gilded tombs of ancient pharaohs to the dazzling necklaces worn on modern red carpets, this precious metal has remained a constant. But it has more than just aesthetic appeal. Gold’s intrinsic value also makes it a popular investment, particularly in a world of fluctuating trends and volatile markets.

Gold through the ages

Gold’s cultural and economic significance stretches back thousands of years. It is thought to have been used as a means of storing and transferring wealth for more than 2,000 years - with records from c 500BC detailing the minted coins of King Croesus. The behaviour of the gold price therefore has quite the track record, even if we only consider the, somewhat better-recorded, period since the 1800s.

In classical Greece and Rome, gold coins symbolised power and stability, while in Asia, dynasties treasured gold as both currency and decoration. During the Renaissance, gold was synonymous with artistic brilliance, decorating medieval manuscripts and the crowns of monarchs. The 19th and early 20th centuries saw the establishment of the gold standard, tying the global monetary system to the value of gold. While the gold standard has since been abandoned, the metal’s importance as a store of value has continued and in modern times gold continues to inspire.

A dual role

Beyond it being a fashion statement, gold also plays an important role in wealth preservation for investors. Last year was a record-breaking period for gold, with the price of the metal reaching 39 all-time highs throughout 2024, second only to 1979 (57) and closely followed by 1972 (38) and 2011 (38). It hit its peak in October in the lead up to the US election which took place amidst plenty of geopolitical unrest.

There are many contributing factors to the price of gold, with last year seeing the perfect storm of influencing factors:

• Global economics - gold generally does well during global economic slowdown, since it is considered a safe haven asset.

• Global geopolitics - gold tends to do well during geopolitical uncertainty. The Russia-Ukraine war and conflict in the Middle East are current examples of how global conflicts can influence prices.

• The US Dollar - the gold price is denominated in US dollars and this implies that the exposure gained from buying and selling gold is influenced by changes in the exchange rate of US dollars compared to other leading currencies, and to the base currency of the investor. The strengthening of the US dollar has historically resulted in a decrease in the value of gold.

• Central bank activity - these are major holders of gold as a reserve asset. Selling and buying by central banks can materially impact the gold price.

• Interest rates - increases in interest rates generally tend to have downward pressure on prices, since the opportunity cost of holding gold, which generates no income, increases.

• Inflation - decreases in global inflationary pressures tend to drive demand away from gold and more towards other assets, negatively affecting the price of gold. Conversely, during times of rising inflation, gold prices have, historically, risen, as investors are put off by falling or low real (inflation adjusted) returns from bonds and cash.

While we are starting to see some normalisation in markets, there is still ongoing uncertainty with regards to many of the above. Gold prices continued to hold steady throughout December, indicating that appetite for the metal is still high.

A safe harbour

Unlike stocks, bonds, or real estate, whose values are tied to market conditions, gold often moves inversely to broader financial trends. During times of geopolitical turmoil, recessions, or inflationary spikes, investors tend to seek out gold as a diversifying asset. For instance, during the stagflation era of the 1970s, gold prices skyrocketed from $35 per ounce at the start of the decade to over $800 by 1980.

This role as a financial hedge has solidified gold’s position as a more mainstream investment, with a steadily increasing and seemingly sustainable share

“When compared to other assets, gold was one of the top performers in 2024.”

of demand driven by investment. A large part of this demand, as briefly mentioned earlier, stems from central banks. As of Q3 2024, central banks have acquired 694 tonnes – although net purchases have slowed from 2023, this is still in line with 2022 figures over the same period.

Today, inflation and market volatility are at the forefront of many investors’ minds. Rising prices erode the purchasing power of cash, while volatile markets create uncertainty about the future value of stocks and bonds. When compared to other assets, gold was one of the top performers in 2024.

Timeless appeal in modern markets

While financial markets evolve and new investment opportunities emerge, gold’s role remains steadfast. Whether held as physical bullion, coins, or through financial instruments like exchange-traded funds (ETFs), gold can be a reliable and versatile addition to any portfolio. It can help balances risk, offers liquidity, and helps with long-term value preservation.

Unlike newer assets such as cryptocurrencies, which, as we have seen, are often subject to extreme volatility and regulatory uncertainty, gold is a tried-and-tested investment with a track record spanning millennia. While bitcoin and similar digital currencies may have captured attention for their rapid gains, their value remains speculative, tied to market sentiment rather than intrinsic worth.

Ultimately, gold’s enduring value stems from its unique combination of physical properties, cultural significance, and economic resilience. This resilience lies in its universal acceptance and limited supply. It cannot be manufactured like government-issued currencies or rapidly devalued. It has intrinsic worth that is recognised worldwide. In fashion, gold will always symbolise luxury, sophistication, and individuality. In finance, it represents stability and security. Together, these qualities make gold a popular asset for many types of investors. O

Opulence and Exclusivity: taking notice of high-end assets

High-end assets, from iconic fashion to rare collectibles, not only symbolise status but can also be resilient in uncertain times. Gold, wine and fine art are well known safe-haven assets, often outperforming more traditional investments and helping affluent investors diversify and safeguard wealth for the long-term.

The luxury sector, where opulence and exclusivity reign supreme, is led by a handful of market leaders. Over the last few decades, the industry has grown significantly, expanding its range of participants and products to include fashion, jewellery, watches, cosmetics, automotives and hospitality.

2013 Ferrari, LaFerrari

By market capitalisation, nine of the top 10 companies, per Bloomberg, are listed in Europe: four in France, three in Italy, and one each in Switzerland and Denmark. These include LVMH, Hermès International, EssilorLuxottica, Compaigne Financiere Richemont, Ferrari, Kering, Prada, Moncler and Pandora. Christian Dior, nearly entirely owned by LVMH, is consolidated within its accounts.

High-end assets under the microscope

But beyond the glitz and glamour, the sector has come under the microscope in recent months, as major players contend with the inflationary environment in the Western world, China’s sluggish economic recovery, and heightened geopolitical issues. Kering has been the most exposed to this deterioration in earnings due to its exposure to China and brands that are more cyclical than LVMH and Hermès. Sabato de Sarno, the new lead designer at its flagship Gucci brand, has yet to reverse fortunes, prompting management to focus growth through investment in core products and brand awareness. Meanwhile, LVMH, long seen as an industry bellwether with a presence

in over 75 countries and products spanning watches, wine and spirits, bags and travel, has also been impacted by China’s slowdown.

Immunity to the downturn

However, other companies in the sector have so far been immune to the downturn in profitability. One of these is Hermès, which in its most recent quarter experienced aboveconsensus earnings growth as wealthy consumers, even in China, continued to buy its high-end luxury leather goods, which include handbags costing $10,000 or more.

Elsewhere, Ferrari has sustained growth, thanks to management’s strict control on the supply of new vehicles and increased brand investment. With production focused on a limited number of models and demand expected to significantly outstrip supply, earnings should continue to be economically agnostic. Known for being one of the best-run automakers, Ferrari’s price-toearnings multiple underscores its status as a leading global luxury brand.

EssilorLuxottica has also enjoyed strong earnings expansion, which is expected to continue over the medium term as it diversifies away from ordinary eyewear to smart glasses. The company is collaborating with Meta to develop revamped versions of the ‘Ray-Ban Meta’ smart glasses, albeit these are in their infancy in terms of functionality and consumer use. That said, Meta’s consideration of acquiring a stake in the company highlights confidence in its longterm growth potential.

The luxury sector, where opulence and exclusivity reign supreme, is led by a handful of market leaders.

Short-term uncertainty, longterm promise

Bloomberg consensus forecasts strong earnings growth for the European luxury sector, with only Kering’s earnings forecast to be negative.

Despite headwinds, the sector has maintained pricing discipline and ensured products are distributed to areas of growth to avoid excess inventory. This positions it well for when demand, especially from China, rebounds.

Elevated multiples for companies like Ferrari and Hermès reflect medium term earnings growth. While recent weakness in LVMH and Kering is notable, Forbes forecasts the luxury goods market will grow from $283bn to $392bn by 2030. Though the shortfuture outlook is uncertain, longterm prospects remain strong. After all, there is something to be said for the little luxuries in life. O

It’s Complicated

Patek Philippe has unveiled a bold new complication in their all-new Cubitus collection.

In their quest for innovation and precision, Patek Philippe has created a reinterpretation of the “elegant sporty” style. Endowed with a highly original square-shaped case with rounded corners and a dial adorned with horizontal relief embossing, the new Cubitus collection makes its debut in three versions, each with its own strong character.

Cubitus is Patek Philippe’s first new collection in 25 years, so the brand’s president, Thierry Stern, wanted to mark the launch with a truly unique timepiece.

“In my mind, it has to be a thin watch. It also has to be a watch with a new movement. And it has also to be a watch that has really all the DNA of a Patek Philippe inside.”

Responding to the ambitious challenge, Patek Philippe’s engineers filed six patent applications to develop the revolutionary new self-winding caliber 240 PS CI J LU for the collection’s technical model. These innovations guarantee perfect alignment of the large-date digits, and the possibility of correcting all the indications at any time of the day.

Cubitus Instantaneous Grand Date, Day and Moon Phases Reference 5822P-001

Powered by the new movement, the Cubitus’ technical model features novel displays combining instantaneous grand date, day and moon-phase indications. The sunburst blue, horizontally embossed dial is surrounded by white gold applied baton-style hour markers with white luminescent coating. The slender profile of the platinum case beautifully juxtaposes a navy-blue fabric patterned strap to create a unique blend of boldness and elegance.

Cubitus Reference 5821/1AR-001

Patek Philippe plays up the elegant, daring design of its new Cubitus collection by endowing it with a twotone version in which the rose gold bezel and central bracelet links combine with a steel caseband and lateral links. A refined contrast, highlighted by the alternating polished and vertical-satin-brushed finishes. This model showcases the same enchanting sunburst blue dial as the Cubitus Grand Date and beats with a movement identical to the Cubitus 5821/1A-001. It is equipped with the self-winding 26-330 S C caliber, featuring a stopseconds function and a central 21K gold rotor adorned with the same horizontal motif as the dial.

Cubitus Reference 5821/1A-001

Stylish and sporty, this steel Cubitus model combines a square-shaped case with rounded corners with an integrated bracelet whose architecture delivers both flexibility and strength. The dial, adorned with horizontal relief embossing, sports an elegant shade of olive green illuminated by a fine sunburst motif. Applied baton-style hour markers and rounded batonstyle hour and minute hands, all in white gold with a white luminescent coating, make legibility excellent. The heart of this timepiece is identical to the Cubitus 5821/1AR, beating with the self-winding 26-330 S C caliber. O

INTRODUCING Italy’s Finest

New to Hettich, these three brands beautifully showcase Italy’s rich history of goldsmithing and each uniquely reflects its iconic culture, art and architecture .

MARCO BICEGO

Born into a family of goldsmiths in Vicenza, known as the gold capital of Italy, Marco Bicego learned his craft in his father’s workshop, before debuting his own jewellery collection in 2000. He uses the traditional goldsmith techniques that are deep-rooted in his history and combines contemporary style to create exquisite pieces that can be worn every day.

Marco Bicego’s jewellery is recognisable by three distinctive hallmarks: hand-twisted coils, hand engraving, and multi-coloured gemstones. He marries 18 carat gold with precious gems and diamonds in an array of different colours and cuts to create oneof-a-kind pieces. These are inspired by his love of architecture and nature, as well as the uniqueness of the women who wear his jewellery.

SERAFINO CONSOLI

Serafino Consoli’s jewellery tells a story of transformation. Born in Vicenza, goldsmithing is in the brand’s DNA, and the art of Italian craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations remains at the core of each creation. It is this expertise that has allowed Serafino Consoli to push the boundaries of modern jewellery design and develop revolutionary concepts to create jewels never seen before.

A true visionary, Serafino Consoli produced truly inventive collections that are designed to reflect the ever-changing nature of life. After more than a decade of research and experimentation with precious stones, the Brevetto collection was created using patented technology that allows each piece to change shape and size. The Serafino Collection takes the concept of change even further, with rings that can transform into bracelets.

Designer Annamaria Cammilli’s love of sculpture is evident in her jewellery, as she has spent more than three decades experimenting with shape, colour and texture to ensure that each piece is a little work of art.

Cammilli goldsmiths are pioneers of the processing and treatment of gold surfaces, and their renowned “Aetherna” finish enhances the depth of shapes. Through years of research, and the use of innovative technology, they have also achieved eight original shades of 18 carat gold which make Cammilli’s authentic Italian creations instantly recognisable across the globe. ANNAMARIA CAMMILLI

Jersey’s Community Foundation

Our safe and prosperous Island, which has so much to offer, also faces many challenges of disadvantage, inequality and social need – and much of it is not well known. As CEO of Jersey Community Foundation (JCF), I’ve witnessed firsthand the extent of that need and seen it matched with the incredible generosity of our residents and businesses. At the time of writing (January 2025) and since our establishment in October 2020, we have distributed over £9 million to more than 300 charitable causes, and this would not have been possible without the kindness and commitment of our donors.

JCF is at the core of our community's generosity, linking donors with crucial local causes through a programme of grant rounds that are assessed by sector specific panel experts, our experienced team and board, and supported with robust data sources, such as our Local Needs Assessment. As a catalyst for positive change, JCF nurtures a culture of giving that benefits all of Jersey. Giving through JCF means joining a legacy of philanthropy that meets urgent needs and encourages longterm community resilience.

The need in Jersey is real. Our 2022 Local Needs Assessment highlighted

significant challenges, including loneliness, wealth disparities, poor health and lifestyle choices and the disproportionate impact of our relative high cost-of-living. JCF’s ‘Jersey Community Fund’ attempts to address these community concerns and contributes to the above priority funding areas, with grants awarded to charitable organisations twice a year (May and October). Contributing to our Jersey Community Fund is just one way you can explore giving back to the community.

"When donating, it’s important not to view it as giving your money away, but as giving back. This way of thinking makes it easier to let others join in so that they can contribute their time, skills and expertise in a way that maximises the effectiveness of your giving. Community Foundations are a perfect example of this because it’s like collaborating with a wealth manager – they know how to maximise the impact of your contributions." Ross Badger, Trustee, Sedel-Collings Foundation

Ross set up a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) with JCF to fulfil the wishes of late Islanders Rae Sedel and John Collings. Ross sits on the grant panel to help guide decisions and remain connected to the impact

of their legacy. A DAF allows you to recommend grants for causes of your choice over time, without the administrative burden of setting up your own charity. The Sedel-Collings DAF supports a number of causes from men’s mental health through to supporting women who have been victims of domestic violence.

At JCF, we work closely with individuals, families and businesses to set up tailored DAFs that align with their values and goals. It is a flexible, streamlined approach to giving that makes philanthropy accessible and impactful. Whether you prefer to contribute to an existing themed fund - like our Jersey Community Fund – or set up a legacy gift for a themed cause(s) year after year or create a bespoke grant-making strategy, we can guide you every step of the way.

Philanthropy is most effective when it’s structured, strategic and aligned with your values. Whether you’re new to giving or looking to refine your existing approach, JCF provides the expertise to ensure your philanthropy creates lasting and meaningful impact. O

Figures who will work silently to safeguard your wealth, your home, and your future.

Introducing: Paul Fraser Collectibles’ Build a Collection Service

Our Build a Collection Service enables clients to acquire important historical objects at below market prices. Offering an easy and enjoyable way to build a valuable portfolio of rare collectibles. Pieces such as a document signed 500 years ago by Henry VIII at Hampton Court. A spacesuit Buzz Aldrin wore as he trained for the Apollo 11 mission. Or Britain’s rarest postage stamp: the “legendary” 1d penny red, Plate 77. Relationships are at the forefront of this personal service; we always have your best interests at heart. We offer a complete service, from carefully curated selection through to exit strategies.

Diversification & Legacy Planning

Many of our clients use this service to diversify their pension fund. Others use it to save for future events, such as their children’s university fees, or as a legacy plan for their grandchildren. We provide annual valuations, enabling you to track the growth of your collection’s value.

Our Approach

We only acquire rare collectibles we wish to hold as long-term investments on our balance sheet. This ensures our interests are always aligned with our clients’. Like a fund manager picking stocks, our team studies the market and carefully selects shortlists of rare collectibles to buy and then offer to our clients. Our stringent due diligence process focuses only on the rarest, highestquality items with impeccable authenticity and provenance. We acquire only those pieces that have the potential to appreciate in value over time - based on our deep understanding of market dynamics. Importantly, we only purchase when we can secure an item at below our internal valuation of its “market value”. This built-in margin of safety enables us to pass on that advantage to our clients, giving their investment a head-start. Most of our clients build collections. They either blend categories, or focus on a specific passion. They enjoy the thrill of discovering new pieces and the pride, prestige, and pleasure of ownership. Building such a collection enables value to mature over time. Clients can then sell all or part of the collection, or retain it as a wealth store to pass down as a family heirloom.

Achieve Full Market Value

When you decide it’s time to sell, liquidating your portfolio through Paul Fraser Collectibles offers you the best possible return.

Our global network of highnet-worth clients ensures you find a buyer keen to pay full

market value. Our relationship managers know their clients’ assets, aspirations, and interests intimately, enabling us to match sellers with the right buyers.

Our PR team will also work hard for you. We excel at securing media coverage to maximise the audience for your portfolio. Our clients regularly enjoy seeing their items in the national and international press.

You can also take advantage of our competitive commission rate on exit. We pride ourselves on beating the auction houses, who charge 25% to 50% when you factor in seller’s fees and the buyer’s premium. We will always strive to minimise your “trading spread”. Handle with

Luxury jewellery will last a lifetime, but it is inevitable that your cherished pieces will accumulate dust and dirt which can lead to diamonds losing their sparkle and precious metals losing their shine. With proper, regular cleaning, your jewellery can dazzle just as much as it did on day one.

You should clean your pieces regularly at home in between your professional cleans...

We recommend that you bring your jewellery in for a professional clean at least once a year. As well as preserving the shine, our experts will also inspect your items for any signs of damage that you may have missed. We can then make sure we restore your beloved jewellery to its former glory.

You can also follow our handy care guide to keep your jewellery looking its finest in between visits. To avoid scuffs, scratches and tangles, you should store your treasured pieces separately, either in separate compartments in a jewellery box or, ideally, in their own pouches or boxes. Try not to discard the boxes your jewellery arrives in as these are perfect for protecting against dust and damage.

It’s only natural that you want to admire your exquisite pieces on the off chance that you’ve forgotten just how pretty they are. But, natural oils can be transferred from your skin that can dull gemstones and pearls so avoid excessive handling. When you do handle your jewellery, hold it by the edges or metal parts.

Contact with harsh chemicals can damage the finish of your jewellery so try to remember to take it off before showering, swimming or cleaning. You should also wait to put on your jewellery until after you have done your hair and makeup, and spritzed your perfume. When taking a trip to the hairdressers, you should avoid wearing pearls if you are having your hair coloured as the chemicals can damage the sheen.

Care

If you want your jewellery to really keep its shine, you should clean your pieces regularly at home in between your professional cleans at Hettich. To remove dirt, oils and other residues, use a nonabrasive soft-bristled brush, mild detergent, and lukewarm water. You should very gently scrub your items, before patting them dry with a soft, lint-free cloth that will not leave fuzz or threads behind. If you are considering a jewellery cleaner, it is important that it is non-abrasive and free from harsh chemicals. Our Hettich team will always be on hand with any advice you need about caring for your precious jewellery.

Following our guide will ensure that your fine jewellery never loses its brilliance, but the best thing you can do to protect it is to invest in proper insurance. We also recommend that you get your most precious pieces appraised as this will provide certified documentation of your jewellery’s value, which will help with any insurance claim. Our in-house Hettich team can take care of this for you with our valuation service. O

Working with Rok was a fantastic experience; their collaborative and inventive approach, combined with their support in overcoming historical and logistical challenges, made the entire process smooth and rewarding. Everyone involved worked together seamlessly to deliver a high-quality end product that exceeded expectations.

“ “

Jeff and Nick Chinn, Hettich Jewellers

The completion of Hettich stands as a true testament to the art of collaboration and craftsmanship.

Through our curated partnership with key stakeholders, whose vision and expertise harmoniously worked together throughout the process, every challenge was met with innovative solutions. The project’s success is deeply rooted in the strong, professional relationships, ensuring the seamless integration of every aspect, from design to execution.

At the heart of this remarkable achievement lies the thoughtful incorporation of the island’s rich heritage, the storied legacy of the Hettich brand, and the vibrant culture of St. Helier.

Rok and Hettich’s commitment allowed the creation of a space that transcends mere function, instead becoming a reflection of the spirit of Jersey. The outcome is a truly unique project — one that stands as a proud landmark in St. Helier, woven with history, culture, and a deep sense of community.

You’re the one that I want!

You’ve decided to pop the question –congratulations! Now there is the not-so-small matter of the ring.

Looking for the perfect engagement ring can feel overwhelming, particularly with so many options to choose from. That’s why we’ve made it easy with our simple guide to buying an engagement ring you’ll love and treasure forever.

CHOOSING THE STONE

It should come as no surprise that diamonds are the firm favourite when it comes to engagement rings – diamonds are forever, after all. They are also totally unique as no two gems are the same. Each diamond is a one-off, just like the person wearing it.

If your special someone’s style is a little more vibrant, you could opt for a coloured gemstone.

The enchantingly blue sapphire is becoming an increasingly popular choice of gemstone, especially when encompassed by

the beautiful sparkle of diamonds. And who can forget Princess Diana’s iconic Ceylon sapphire engagement ring?

Rubies are in the same gemstone family as sapphires and considered to symbolise love, passion and energy due to their striking red colour. A ruby is also the birthstone of those born in July.

Other coloured gemstones include emeralds (green), aquamarine (light blue) and tanzanite (violet blue) which can be stunning when set as engagement rings, although they are not as robust as diamonds, sapphires or rubies.

CHOOSING A STYLE

Diamond shapes and cuts

The round cut diamond is the most popular shape; dazzlingly brilliant and traditional, it’s a timeless classic that symbolises eternal love and commitment.

The oval cut is more elongated and gives the diamond a larger surface area. It has all the brilliance of the round cut but with a more distinctive twist.

The pear-shaped diamond embodies elegance and individuality, and its teardrop silhouette will hold the attention of any room.

The emerald cut diamond features a rectangular shape with step-cut facets, which creates a mesmerising hall-ofmirrors effect. This showcases the diamonds purity, symbolising clarity and honesty. Grace Kelly’s monumental 10.8 carat emerald cut engagement ring remains one of the most extravagant pieces of celebrity jewellery in history.

The Asscher cut also enchants with a hall-of-mirrors effect but has a distinctive square shape with cropped corners. Originally developed in the early 20th century, the Asscher cut engagement ring combines vintage appeal and modern sophistication. This shape is the perfect choice for lovers of the Art Deco style.

The princess cut is also square in shape but its dynamic edges and sharp angles create a simpler, more modern aesthetic. Its simplicity by no means compromises its stylish design and brilliant sparkle, representing elegance and simplicity.

The marquise cut’s striking, regal style tells a story of ambition and grandeur. Its silhouette provides the most finger coverage and its bold appearance is a favourite of those who have a flair for the dramatic.

The heart shaped diamond is for the true romantic and is the ultimate symbol of love and sentimentality. The distinctive heart shape instantly catches the eye and, unsurprisingly, represents deep affection and an emotional connection.

Once you have chosen your stone, you now need to consider whether it might want company. Your star attraction could form the centre of a three-stone ring, or you could opt for a single stone with diamond-set shoulders. These options would be perfect for adding that special sparkle to a coloured gemstone. For ultimate glamour, you could frame your beautiful centrepiece with diamonds to create a cluster ring. This is a stunning possibility, but it may present challenges when matching it to a wedding ring.

The colour of the precious metal is down to personal preference so we would recommend taking a sneak peek in the jewellery drawer to help you choose the right band. Ideally, you should bring a ring

with you, and we’ll measure it to determine the size. But don’t worry too much, we can always resize it for you.

An engagement ring is probably one of the most important purchases you’ll ever make. That’s why at Hettich, our experts are ready and waiting to help you every step of the way. It’s our pleasure to serve you and ensure that you find a ring to treasure forever. O

Purchasing with Gama

A COMPREHENSIVE

GUIDE a Private Jet Aviation:

Purchasing a private jet represents a significant investment, one that requires careful planning, expert guidance, and a thorough understanding of the aviation market. With over 40 years of experience in the aviation industry, Gama Aviation offers a comprehensive suite of services designed to make the acquisition process seamless. From the initial consultation to post-purchase support, we provide the expertise and resources needed to ensure that purchasing a private jet is a smooth and rewarding experience, whether for personal or corporate use.

Why Buy a Private Jet?

For high-net-worth individuals and businesses, owning a private jet offers unparalleled advantages in convenience, privacy, and flexibility. A private jet allows you to fly to your schedule, bypass the delays and restrictions of commercial airports, and access remote destinations that are often inaccessible by commercial airlines. This ensures not only time-saving benefits but also the luxury of customised comfort and reach, tailored to your preferences.

For businesses, a private jet can be a powerful strategic asset. Executives and key personnel can attend meetings in multiple cities or countries in a single day, optimising productivity. Private jets also provide a secure and confidential environment, allowing business discussions to continue without interruption during flights.

Gama Aviation: Experts in Private Jet Acquisition

Acquiring a private jet is a multifaceted process, but with Gama Aviation’s expertise, it becomes straightforward and stress-free. Our team offers a tailored, end-to-end service, guiding clients through every step of the acquisition journey and ensuring that the aircraft you purchase meets your specific requirements in terms of performance, budget, and long-term use.

Here’s how we help

1. Consultation and Needs Analysis

The first step in purchasing a private jet is understanding your specific requirements. Gama Aviation conducts a detailed consultation to analyse your travel patterns, preferred routes, frequency of flights, passenger needs, and desired onboard features. Whether you require a compact jet for short trips or a long-range aircraft for international travel, our needs analysis ensures that the aircraft you choose perfectly aligns with your lifestyle or business goals.

2. Aircraft Selection and Sourcing

Leveraging our extensive industry connections and global network, Gama Aviation presents a curated selection of new and pre-owned aircraft options that meet your criteria. Whether you’re interested in the efficiency of a Gulfstream, the versatility of a Bombardier, or the luxury of a Dassault Falcon, we ensure access to the best models available on the market.

We also provide in-depth insights into each aircraft’s operational costs, range, maintenance needs, and resale value. This comprehensive evaluation enables you to make an informed decision, ensuring the aircraft not only fits your current needs but also serves as a sound long-term investment.

3. Inspection, Negotiation and Purchase

After identifying the ideal aircraft, Gama Aviation manages all aspects of the inspection and purchase process. Our Technical Team conducts meticulous pre-purchase inspections to verify airworthiness, mechanical condition, and regulatory compliance. Simultaneously, our legal and financial experts handle contract negotiations, financing arrangements, and documentation, ensuring a smooth and transparent transaction.

4. Post-Purchase Support

Our commitment to clients extends well beyond the purchase. Gama Aviation provides a comprehensive range of post-purchase services, including aircraft management, maintenance, and crew recruitment. Our Aircraft Management Team oversee every aspect of ownership, from flight planning and insurance to regulatory compliance and charter operations.

Additionally, we offer charter management services, enabling owners to offset operational costs by chartering their jet to others when not in use. Our global network ensures that your aircraft remains active and generates revenue whenever possible.

Understanding the Costs of Ownership

Owning a private jet involves more than the initial purchase price. Operating expenses, including fuel, maintenance, hangar fees, and crew salaries, can add up. Gama Aviation provides prospective buyers with detailed cost analyses, including projected annual operating costs for different types of aircraft and offers you a clear picture of the financial commitments involved. We also explore cost-saving strategies, such as shared ownership programmes and charter revenue opportunities, to help clients maximise the value of their investment.

Conclusion

Investing in a private jet is a transformative decision, offering unparalleled freedom, flexibility, and luxury. With Gama Aviation, the journey to ownership is expertly managed, from selecting the perfect aircraft to ensuring its smooth operation post-purchase. Our extensive experience, global reach, and dedication to excellence make us the ideal partner for navigating the complex world of private aviation. By choosing Gama Aviation, you gain not only a trusted advisor but also the peace of mind that comes with knowing your investment is in expert hands. O

Martini glass

Shaken or stirred; the martini must be served in this iconic glass. The long stem and cone shape work together to control the temperature, and the wide mouth enhances the aroma with each sip. As well as the classic martini, this stylish glass is also chosen for the cosmopolitan and the increasingly popular espresso martini.

COSMOPOLITAN

Ingredients

35ml vodka

• 15ml orange liqueur

Squeeze fresh lime juice

25ml cranberry juice

Twist orange peel, to garnish

Ice

Method

1. Place the vodka, orange liqueur, lime juice and cranberry juice into a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake hard and then strain into Martini glass.

2. Hold the piece of orange peel over the glass and carefully flame with a match. Garnish the cocktail with the flamed orange peel and serve.

Coupe glass

The long stem and shallow bowl form the most photogenic shape, but this isn’t just for style purposes. The stem prevents the warmth of your hand from reaching your chilled drink and the bowl heightens the sweetness of sugars and quickly develops the aromas. The coupe glass is also known as the champagne saucer, and was popular in the early 20th century to serve the syrup-based champagnes of the time.

MANHATTAN

Ingredients

50ml Whisky

• 25ml Sweet Vermouth

Dash of Bitters

Maraschino cherry and orange peel to garnish

• Ice

Method

1. Fill a pint glass threefourths full with ice. Add the whiskey, vermouth and bitters and stir for 20-30 seconds until well chilled.

2. Using a strainer, strain the liquid into your coupe glass.

3. Cut a slice of orange peel and slide it, along with a cherry, onto a skewer and place across the rim of the glass to garnish.

Highball glass

This glass resembles a classic drinking tumbler and will be the most versatile in your cabinet. Tall and narrow, it is ideal for mixed drinks poured over lots of ice and for layered drink such as a stacked Bloody Mary.

MOJITO

Ingredients

1½ limes, cut into wedges

• 20 fresh mint leaves 2½ tsp granulated sugar Handful of ice 65ml white rum

• Splash soda water, to taste Fresh mint sprig, to garnish

Method

1. Place the limes, mint and sugar into a sturdy highball glass and ‘muddle’ or mash with the end of a clean rolling pin, to bruise the mint and release the lime juice.

2. Add the ice and pour over the rum.

3. Add soda water to taste and stir well. Garnish with a mint sprig and serve.

Lowball glass

Another versatile glass, the lowball is a short cylindrical tumbler with a sturdy base that is perfect for serving drinks on the rocks. It is also called an old-fashioned glass after the whisky-based cocktail it is synonymous with. The lowball is also ideal to serve a white Russian or negroni.

OLD-FASHIONED

Ingredients

1 thick slice orange peel

1 maraschino cherry, with stem

1 tsp sugar syrup

2-3 drops bitters Ice cubes, as necessary

• 50ml Scotch or bourbon

Method

1. Take the orange peel and squeeze it with your fingers. Rub the peel around the insides of your glass, then place in. Add the cherry, sugar syrup and bitters, along with ice cubes.

2. Add half of the scotch or bourbon and stir for about ten seconds. Add more ice and the remaining scotch or bourbon and stir again for 10-15 seconds. O

A LICENCE TO THRILL

The Fabergé x 007 collaboration now boasts a new egg surprise locket in celebration of the 60th anniversary of Goldfinger (1964) and a ring to join the Fabergé x 007 Octopussy capsule collection.

The Fabergé x 007 Goldfinger capsule collection presents the Fabergé x 007 Egg Safe Locket with Ruby Heart Surprise, inspired by the Fort Knox gold depository safe that is central to the film’s plot. It is in an 18k yellow gold egg shape, which opens to reveal a responsibly mined Gemfields Mozambican heartshaped ruby encased within. This is the first time Fabergé has created an egg surprise locket which opens in this fashion. The ruby heart nestled inside is dripping in gold and represents Goldfinger’s passion for gold and is a reference to the title song lyrics, “He loves only gold.” The bail of the pendant is inspired by the shape of the ‘G’, for Goldfinger, and in the same font, like the signet ring that the character wears in the film.

"This is gold, Mr. Bond. All my life I’ve been in love with its colour… its brilliance, its divine heaviness."

The Fabergé x 007 Octopussy Ring is crafted from 18k brushed yellow gold and is a show-stopping octopus that wraps around the wearer’s finger. Fortyeight round brilliant-cut diamonds, which represent the octopus’ suckers, sparkle on the tentacles, one appearing to climb up the finger when worn, while two round brilliant cut diamonds characterise its eyes. In keeping with Fabergé’s penchant for surprise, a responsibly mined Gemfields Mozambican ruby is hidden on the inside of the ring band, a secret only the wearer will know. The octopus pays homage to the eponymous antagonist at the centre of the Octopussy film.

Designed by Fabergé Head of Design, Liisa Tallgren, and overseen by Fabergé Creative Director, Josina von dem Bussche-Kessell, the Fabergé x 007 creations are a symphony of past, present and future, with nods to two legendary James Bond films.

“Another set of beautiful additions to our Fabergé x 007 James Bond Partnership with EON, these collectible pieces continue to commemorate iconic symbols and themes from the Bond universe and are brought to life in signature Fabergé styles.” Josina von dem Bussche-Kessell, Fabergé Creative Director.

“The glamour and appreciation of beauty and culture is where the worlds of Bond and Fabergé meet, a perfect place to create a collection of very special pieces that honour both Fabergé heritage and Bond storytelling.” Liisa Tallgren, Fabergé Head of Design. O

Precious cargo

Your jewellery is an extension of your identity so it’s only natural that you should want to take your most cherished pieces wherever you go.

Should you travel with your treasures, or should you leave them safely at home? Here are our top tips for travelling with luxury jewellery.

DECISIONS, DECISIONS

To minimise the risk of loss or damage, you need to decide what jewellery you actually need. If you’re jetting off on a relaxing beach break or an action-packed adventure holiday, you won’t be wearing jewellery during the day so just opt for a couple of versatile pieces for evenings out. If you’ll be visiting tourist hotspots in a crowded city, avoid wearing flashy jewellery that will draw attention to yourself as theft is often rife in these areas.

Jewllery Travel Case: Wolf, Maria Zip Case - Mustard
“Never pack your precious pieces in a suitcase that will be placed (or thrown) into the hold and has the potential to go missing.”

APPRAISE AND INSURE

We always recommend appraising and insuring all your luxury items of jewellery, even if you’re not planning on travelling with them. At Hettich, we will appraise your items and provide you with the documentation you need for your insurance. It is important that you take out an appropriate policy that covers travel and protects against loss or damage.

KEEP CALM AND CARRY-ON

You need to pack your jewellery extremely carefully and always keep it close in your carry-on bag. Never pack your precious pieces in a suitcase that will be placed (or thrown) into the hold and has the potential to go missing. When packing your jewellery in your hand luggage, avoid using outer pockets and place each item in a jewellery travel case, roll or pouch inside an inner compartment to ensure the most protection. To avoid tangling, you should roll any necklaces in soft cloth. Add extra cushioning by surrounding your jewellery with clothes or bubble wrap.

MAKE A LIST… AND STICK TO IT

Once you have decided what jewellery you will be taking on your trip, make a note of them, as well as all the items you will be leaving at home. This will make it easier to identify if anything is missing when you get back. Better yet, take photos or videos.

THE SAFE APPROACH

When you need to take off your jewellery, before a dip in the pool or a trip to the hotel gym, you need to have peace of mind that your precious jewellery is secure. Anytime your jewellery is not with you, it should be stored in a safe. Ideally there would be a safe in your room but if there isn’t, you should ask the hotel staff to use the safe behind reception. You should also consider investing in a safe at home to store the cherished items you are leaving behind. Alternatively, you could secure your most valuable and sentimental pieces in a safety deposit box whilst you are away. Have a safe and stylish trip! O
