The watchwords at The Squid Ink Restaurant, owned and run by husband and wife team, Warren and Catherine Goodridge are, Cornish! Local! Fresh! Sustainable! Organic! And Free Range! Highly experienced and innovative Chef Patron Warren was looking for a change of pace after an extensive, not to say exhausting career, at the top of his profession. After meeting Catherine who is a degree qualified midwife, used to keeping calm under pressure, they decided to open their own seafood restaurant. They re-opened The Squid Ink under their joint management in 2011.

Although The Squid Ink specialises in fish and seafood; meat eaters and vegetarians are equally deliciously catered for, meat is supplied from a traditional local butcher who provides a superb choice and quality of local meat with conscience and confidence, including local lamb with that distinctive grass fed flavour, succulent milk fed pork sourced from a local dairy farm, and all beef from local farms. Game lovers will find tender, flavoursome Roe deer from a local estate. Poultry is all organic and free range, and tastes the way we remember from childhood. Warren even bakes all his own bread, to his own original recipes using the best English flour; currently very popular is his black olive and cracked pepper.

Warren is passionate about using locally sourced, ultra fresh produce and emphatically maintains that provenance is the key to producing the very best food. Fish and seafood is sourced daily from the small day boats that berth in Looe harbour, and The Squid Ink’s daily specials board reflects that morning’s catch, day boats are the most sustainable form of fishing, and nothing could be fresher. Locally caught Cod, Halibut, Turbot, Skate and of course Squid are on the menu as available. Warren finds not knowing what is going to be in that morning’s catch when he is devising his menus really keeps him on his toes. Warren and Catherine Goodridge

The Thatched Cottage Restaurant

for The Thatched Cottage as a first class dining venue, while the introduction of fine dining evenings has proved a great success. Whether you drop in for coffee, a relaxed lunch, afternoon tea or a special evening meal you will have an excellent experience at every level. The Thatched Cottage is available for private hire and makes a wonderful venue for a wedding, birthday or anniversary celebration. For freshly prepared, home cooked food, sourced largely from the surrounding area in an attractive traditional farmhouse setting, a warm welcome awaits you at the family run Thatched Cottage Restaurant at Kingsteignton, Newton Abbot.

The restaurant is owned and managed by Colin and Chris Seymour who have been in the hospitality business for many years, and had long held the ambition for a restaurant of their own where they could settle and bring up their two children. When they first saw the building they fell in love with it straightaway. The Thatched Cottage building originates from the 16th century and has served a number of purposes over the years, originally a farm, later a hotel, and more recently a restaurant. Many original features are still in evidence complemented by sympathetic additions; think oak beams, cob walls, an open fire, leaded windows and a cosy bar and you begin to get the picture. A warm greeting is assured at all times from Chris, Peter or any one of the friendly team, stroll in through the picturesque walled garden from their large car park, or use the level access at the front of the building. You will be invited to relax and make yourself at home while choosing from the extensive menu in the cosy dining room. In the summer months you may take morning coffee, afternoon tea or even pre dinner drinks in the garden seating area. Pimms in the summer is a cool favourite!

Colin and Chris strive to be environmentally friendly, and their focus on recycling and composting in their own garden, results in a steady supply of tasty fruit and vegetables for use in the restaurant. The freshness and quality of their food is building an enviable reputation

At Bianco’s the emphasis is on the traditional and the range of dishes, all using the best, freshest ingredients, is extensive, with the friendly waiting staff always on hand to explain the options as well as the special dishes of the day from a blackboard in the restaurant. Torquay’s oldest Italian restaurant Bianco’s has been in business since 1987

The special set menu offers a range of one starter and one main course for £9.95 and, available from 6-7.30pm and after 9pm, is ideal for early birds or those wanting to eat pre or post theatre performances. The equally reasonably priced a la carte menu also provides a wide selection of meat, fish and pasta dishes.

Mauro who established the restaurant and his staff of 12 offer a warm Mediterranean welcome to everyone who calls in the place where comfort and enjoyment of fine Italian cuisine and wines take centre stage.

Open daily between 6pm and 11pm, Bianco’s traditional intimate setting makes it perfect for a romantic candlelit dinner for two while its friendly atmosphere adds the finishing touches to group gatherings of up to 70. For those celebrating an anniversary, birthday or similar, the upstairs floor provides the perfect private area for an event as well as extra dining space on especially busy nights - which occur often due to the restaurant’s popularity.

Gourmets can take their pick from starters such as Tonno e Fagioli - tuna with Italian beans and onions mixed with olive oil and served over a bed of lettuce with basil and fresh parsley, and Entrecôte Cardinale - prime sirloin served on a bed of spinach topped with sliced mushrooms, melted Dolcelatte cheese and garnished with fresh tomato sauce and there’s also a generous range of vegetarian options. With desserts like Crepe Liquore Banana - freshly prepared crêpe with coffee ice cream flamed in Sambuca banana liqueur and garnished with fresh cream and banana - to round things off, it’s no wonder people are choosing Bianco’s for a great dining night out. For further information or to contact the restaurant, visit www.biancos.co.uk To make a booking go to the contact page on the website or telephone 01803 293 430 or 07855 811 664

In fact, Mauro and his team have blended all the ingredients for success so effectively that, in Easter 2010, he opened a second restaurant opposite - Amici, whose modern, contemporary style has quickly proved a hit with Torquay’s diners. At the centre of it all is the food, which draws customers back to both restaurants again and again.

bakehouse and steakhouse “We love what we do and we do it with love.” Restaurateurs Andy and Rachel Carr truly know the way to a foodie’s heart. It’s their passion and flair that go into serving up some of the finest food that Cornwall has to offer that has earned The Bakehouse glowing reviews and a place in The Good Food Guide 2012. Recently published, inclusion in the latest edition of the UK's bestselling restaurant guide is a coveted honour for any of the nation’s restaurants, pubs and café owners, and Andy and Rachel are over the moon at their mention. “It’s brilliant because you cannot elect or pay to be included,” beams Andy. “Our selection is based entirely on readers' recommendations and inspection reports.” The couple has been running restaurants in the area for the past 14 years and came to The Bakehouse, in Old Bakehouse Lane, Penzance, just over seven years ago. Since then the funkily informal, yet intimate establishment, situated in its own flower and palm-filled courtyard just off Penzance’s most historic and beautiful street which meanders down to the old harbour, has become a firm favourite with diners from all over town and beyond, having been voted a Local Food Hero on five separate occasions. “We are passionate about fresh ingredients and take full advantage of our location by using only the finest local produce including fish and seafood from Newlyn, locally farmed meats and veggies from local allotments and farms,” explains Rachel. “We serve fantastically fresh Cornish produce, cooked simply to let its flavour and quality shine.” The couple are helped in their mission by a team of dedicated staff, including two of the waitressing team who have been with them for 12 years. The key ‘ingredient’ however, is chef, Gareth Spencer. “He won Student of the Year from Camborne College for two years in a row,” reveals Andy.

“We believe our attention to detail is the key to our success,” he says. “Along with continuity and enjoying life!” The Bakehouse is open from 6.15pm until late every evening, except Sundays. The early bird menu is available Monday - Friday, or orders before 7.15pm and two courses cost £13. For full details visit www.bakehouserestaurant.co.uk or email info@bakehouserestaurant.co.uk

“He is a truly exceptional chef and we are very lucky to have had him working with us for the last five years.” Whether it's a special occasion or an informal get-together with friends, all visitors to The Bake House, also a member of Taste of the West, can be assured of the warmest of welcomes - and fabulous food. And with Christmas on the way Andy and Rachel, who already provide delectable dinner, dessert and early bird menus, have the most tempting of festive choices available. At £23.95 a head, The Bakehouse’s extensive Christmas menu includes indulgent delights such as warm smoked duck breast salad with beetroot, apple and walnuts, smoked salmon wellington with herbed cream cheese, rosemary roasties and a lightly dressed salad and hazelnut and oatmeal meringue with red berries and Cornwall’s famous clotted cream. Ever flexible, Andy says just get in touch if the wide range of choices doesn’t include a particular Bakehouse favourite - or if special dietary requirements need to be accommodated.

Laughing Monk Restaurant Travel along the main coastal road between Dartmouth and Kingsbridge to the lovely village of Strete to find the award winning Laughing Monk Restaurant. For fresh local food innovatively prepared, in a relaxed environment. The restaurant, set within the picturesque village of Strete, has been owned and run by husband and wife team, Ben and Jackie Handley since March 2008. Ben and Jackie wanted their own restaurant in a rural setting where they could make a permanent home for themselves and their children, and are delighted by their move to the idyllic area of the South Devon Coast. The Laughing Monk occupies the former village school building dated 1839. Ben and Jackie have retained many of the original features including the original oak floors, huge windows, distinctive arched doorways, a welcoming open fire, and redecorated to give the old school room a light fresh feel, cosy in winter and light and airy for the summer. They form an ideal partnership; Jackie is “front of house” and ensures a warm welcome, and attentive service. Ben, who is a member of the Guild of Master Chefs of Great Britain, relishes the quality of the wonderful fresh local produce which allows him to create deceptively simple dishes with his own special touch. Ben and Jackie are passionate about keeping their food fresh and keeping it local, with fresh fish from that day’s catch from the Dartmouth and Brixham fishermen and meat from local farmers. Superb food and drink, great service, relaxed atmosphere, everyone welcome, that’s what The Laughing Monk Restaurant is about.

For more information or to make a booking, telephone Ben or Jackie on 01803 770639, or visit their website www.thelaughingmonk.co.uk for mouth watering images of some of the dishes available.

Real Ales on at any one time. A popular choice is the seasonal Cornubia ale, exclusive to the pub, brewed by Arbor Ales. Add a 10% discount on pints to card carrying CAMRA members, a choice of at least 5 local ciders a carefully selected range of Lagers, and tasty hand raised pork pies, The Cornubia is not to be missed, a traditional pub, not a plastic palace. BEST WESTERN

Tiverton Hotel IT’S no surprise Rhys Roberts was ready to party as the festive season rounded off 2011 - there was much for his Best Western Tiverton Hotel to celebrate.

Such optimism is a feature of the hotel where guests always find a warm welcome, top service and high standards to meet every need, be it for business or leisure. It’s quality and service award from Best Western International has, so far, only been given to three other Best Western Hotels nationwide and followed a recent visit from an independent inspector in which it scored of 986 out of a possible 1,000 points in various categories. “The award recognises our progress over the past few years and demonstrates the fantastic commitment of our staff to high standards and great customer care,” says Rhys. The three-star hotel has been privately owned since 1997 and part of Best Western Hotels for 10 years, during which time it’s developed extensive facilities, including seven conference and banqueting suites and 69 well-appointed bedrooms, some of which are adapted to offer spacious accommodation, specially modified showers and wider doorways to wheelchair users.

It had been rated one of the country’s top 30 Best Western hotels by satisfied guests, collected its second International Excellence in Quality for the second time in three years, picked up a silver green tourism award and blossomed with a Tiverton in Bloom award.

Also enjoying a great reputation for its food, the hotel runs its own outside catering service in response to increased demand from local companies holding in-house gatherings but without the time or facilities to provide lunch and/or refreshments.

Along with the accolades, the Christmas season saw its special festive and new year events so popular extra ones had to be added, seasonal shooting parties go with a spectacular bang and the successful culmination of its bathroom refurbishment programme.

With free high-speed wi-fi and parking, great facilities (including great golf nearby) and easy access to road and rail links, it is perfect for the Devon and Cornwall corporate market.

20

Now Rhys, owner and director of the hotel in Blundells Road, Tiverton, is looking forward to a busy 2012.

The conference suites with syndicate rooms mean the Best Western Tiverton Hotel can accommodate events for two to 250 delegates with ease.

“I'm getting fed up with the constant impression being given of financial armageddon around the corner,” he declares.

All have good accessibility, including full wheelchair access and a lift to those on the first floor, natural light and some

have air-conditioning, while the experienced conference and banqueting team works closely with customers to ensure every aspect of their event runs according to plan. “We are one of the friendliest companies to do business with,” assures Rhys.

For further information or to make a booking, Visit: www.bw-tivertonhotel.co.uk Alternatively, email: firsthotelier@yahoo.co.uk or telephone: 01884256120 “Many local businesses are our clients and we also work with local authorities and the health care and educational sectors while the coming year will see us looking into expanding our outside catering and adding leisure facilities to the hotel.” Whatever the reason to visit the Best Western Tiverton Hotel, be it business or pleasure, the traditional West Country welcome and dedication to ensuring your comfort remain the same. “We are proud to deal with everyone,” smiles Rhys. “Ours is a broad 'church' and we welcome all new guests with open arms.”

Over the past five years en suites have been added to all bedrooms, and the house has undergone a complete transformation. Liz and Brian’s daughter, Chloë, is their housekeeper, and it is a matter of personal pride to her that Amberley always looks its best and that guests are provided with everything they need to ensure their comfort. Chloë’s care is proven by the award of a 5 star rating for hygiene from the Environmental Health Department. Bristol is a vibrant city for both business and leisure and, although Amberley is close to north Bristol’s business parks, motorways and main roads, Brian and Liz knew their home’s location in a quiet residential road would ensure a calm and comfortable haven for their guests at the end of the day.

Boisdale

THE L A MB AT HINDON

The Lamb at Hindon, the rural outpost of the Boisdale restaurant group, is an historic coaching inn nestled among Wiltshire’s green rolling downs. It brings to the countryside the very best of its parent group – great food, wine, whisky and cigars – while staying true to its origins and maintaining its place in the heart of the village.

With London just two hours away and Salisbury within twenty minutes, The Lamb is a perfect countryside getaway. The onetime posting inn (it supplied post horses for coaches going to and from London and the West Country) with roots dating back to the 12th Century has 19 individually furnished bedrooms and a highly regarded dining room, bar and cigar terrace that are as friendly and welcoming to locals as they are to visitors from the city. The inn retains many of its original features and, as important, its character. Inglenook fireplaces, flagstone floors and heavy wooden beams give it handsome looks that have only been enhanced by more recent ‘Boisdale’ touches such as the warm red walls in the bar and the tartan throws in the bedrooms. It opens seven days a week for lunch and dinner. Bar snacks and sandwiches are available alongside à la carte dishes based on high quality produce, that is either sourced from within Wiltshire, Somerset and Dorset or that celebrates Boisdale’s Scottish connections. To complement the food are wines from the Boisdale collection, well-kept real ales and malt whiskies from the largest malt list in the county. An extensive choice of Cuban cigars – a Boisdale obsession – can be enjoyed on the terrace equipped for all seasons. Sample dishes include: the gourmet burger with Béarnaise sauce & black spot bacon, £8.50; and Macsween haggis, mashed potatoes and bashed neeps, £12. 21 day aged beef cuts served with Béarnaise sauce, grilled tomatoes and thick cut chips. Further options are available on the game and specials board. Food is served in the Dining Room and Bar. The Sitting Room opposite the bar is ideal for drinks, perhaps at the solid oak table that is large enough for ten or in the cosy snug with its sofa and armchairs. A private dining room is spacious enough for 22 for a meeting, lunch or supper. The Lamb’s 19 bedrooms are full of character having been decorated with antique furnishings and paintings in keeping with Boisdale’s traditional style and classic palette. Several of the rooms are named after some of the world’s finest whiskies. Four of the bedrooms have four-poster-beds. All the rooms are

26

en-suite and have beautiful bathrooms fitted with limestone tiles, marble and walnut. Neal’s Yard toiletries are complimentary. Double rooms start at £75 a night; four poster rooms from £85; and the suite from £100. The Lamb at Hindon is a wonderfully atmospheric place to hold a country wedding, and is ideal for small or medium-sized ceremonies. Larger parties with marquees can occasionally be accommodated, subject to availability.

Not resting upon their laurels this dynamic little company have been actively developing some new lines for 2012. Joining their award winning Sticky Ginger Cake will be two further loaf cakes, designed for the discerning consumer; Luxurious Lemon Drizzle Cake and Luxurious Double Chocolate Cake. After many trials and tweaking, tastings suggest that these two additions to their Premium range will be a runaway success. The first thing you notice when you step inside the Puddings and Pies bakery in Sherborne is the delicious smell of freshly baked goodies.

However, it’s the taste that converts customers from first timers to regulars. Whether it’s their prize winning mini Santa cakes or their Triple Chocolate Chip Brownie, it doesn’t take more than a bite to encourage you to munch the whole thing. At Puddings and Pies they provide customers with genuinely, handmade products, baked daily in small batches, to ensure quality and freshness, using only the finest ingredients.

Traybakes form a major part of this business and in March the launch of single slices will herald an entry into retail. With new recipes for Millionaire Shortbread (with rich Belgium Chocolate), Billionaire Shortbread, All Butter Flapjacks and the new CrunchyJack (based on a South African treat) and brand new packaging, in a modern magenta, one cannot help but feel that this is a recipe for success. As Edward Cunningham, the owner says,” There is nothing quite like the taste of Dorset magic”

Celebrating yet another award Owned and run by Twinks and Ian Read, Willow Tree Farm who specialise in making their own jams, chutneys and preserves from fruit and vegetables grown on the farm is celebrating yet another award. They are delighted to have been awarded Bronze at The Taste of the West Awards for Devon Cider Apple Chutney. They were already holders of Gold awards for 2009 for both their Damson and their Quince Jelly, closely followed by Silver for Blackcurrant jam and Bronze for Black Dabinett Cider Apple Jelly. In 2010 their success continued with Gold for Jostaberry Jelly and Silver for both Gamekeepers Mustard and Berry Christmas and Mulled Wine Jam, and Bronze for Beetroot and Ginger Chutney. 2011 has seen a batch of Bronze awards for Blackcurrant and Rhubarb Jam, Rhubarb and Fig Jam as well as the Devon Cider Chutney. There is much discussion at the moment about just what constitutes “fresh”, but at Willow Tree Farm they handle the produce in small quantities to ensure freshness and an original fruit flavour. As far as possible they use their own high quality, home grown, preservative free, fruit and vegetables which are

harvested and instantly made into their quality products. From time to time these are topped up by produce from other local farms, even the dried fruits are sourced from a local wholesaler.

Many of their recipes are traditional favourites, but they are rapidly developing an original and interesting range of their own, through trial and error. Their products are all hand made, and a large percentage of the ingredients are chopped by hand which adds a lovely slightly irregular “homemade” texture. Each and every jar is checked and labelled by hand; such meticulous attention to detail is more than evident in the taste and texture of the products. They have chutneys, jams, jellies and mustard to suit all tastes. Although Willow Tree Farm products are available mostly through farm shops and delicatessens, Twinks Read is able to post small quantities in gift bags, and she is developing her new web site to be able to sell on line. For a really special gift, they are able to create a jam or chutney of your own choice, creating your own label to mark the occasion.

Now one of Cheltenham’s most popular venues for pre and post racing entertainment, The Brewery is preparing to celebrate this great week. The whole centre will be transformed into an “Irish Village”, with Guinness promotions and offers available in many outlets. And it’s a simple 15 minute walk from the racecourse. The Brewery has been an integral part of racing activity since it opened in 2007 and 2012 promises to be better than ever! Each day from 5pm until 7pm, funky, contemporary Irish band The Roving Crows will provide free entertainment in a marquee under the Cupola Tower. This four piece band has its roots firmly in traditional Irish music and is guaranteed to get your feet tapping. Between 7pm and 9pm the party continues with bands including the Dublin Jacks, playing both traditional and contemporary Irish music featuring a number of instruments including, guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, flute, whistles, harmonica, bass and bodharan. All the bars and restaurants at The Brewery – Nando’s, Frankie & Benny’s, Prezzo, Harvester, Après and The Real China – will be entering into the spirit of the ‘Craic’. You can enjoy breakfast at some outlets plus lunch before the racing, with evening entertainment and dining later on. There will be outdoor Guinness bars and evening street entertainment including Irish dancers, stilt walkers and fire jugglers making appearances throughout the week.

later there is usually nothing to show for this enjoyable, but costly treatment. Now you can still enjoy those decadent aromas, experience the pampering but walk away with lasting skin rejuvenation. Investing in a course of resurfacing treatments or chemical peels is also highly recommended; this will help to actively exfoliate away old layers of skin, bringing fresh youthful layers to the surface.

S K I N C A R E At Image Skincare our motto is to Age Later. But aging later is difficult to do when finding a skincare product that works is so challenging. Consumers are greeted by a wide array of glitzy over embellished products in their department store promising them everything but rarely delivering. A new breed of Skincare is now emerging, The Cosmeceutical or Clinical Skincare product. Image Skincare is currently riding the crest of this new wave of groundbreaking ingredients and scientifically researched delivery mechanisms. Fundamentally these products occur in the correct PH spectrum to actually penetrate the skin to deliver these active and meaningful quantities of anti-oxidants, stem cells, peptides, lightening agents and retinols. Image has quickly become the professional’s choice, racking up huge sales volumes in the USA; this professional only brand is now available in the UK.

We entrust the use of our brand to Skincare Experts that have gone through in depth training in order to asses your skin and recommend an effective homecare regime, and if required, a course of appropriate resurfacing treatments. Choosing the right products can be compared to choosing the right foods to eat, what works for you may not work for the next person. It is important to have the right mix, once you have been correctly advised, effective skincare that delivers results then becomes extremely simple, takes up minimal time and is more affordable than you may think.

Addressing fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage and more complex skin issues like advanced acne and pigmentation is Image’s forte. This product line goes beyond pampering to create noticeable changes to the skin. “We usually have 20 to 30 players per game which allows them to be tactical, and fun. “We don’t mix professional paintball players with amateurs and we have dedicated junior games which we never mix with adult paintball groups.” It’s because of the care and attention to detail and safety provided by the 25 dedicated staff that Skirmish Exeter, a UKPSF (United Kingdom Paintball Sports Federation) accredited site which has also won Green Tourism awards, appeals to people of all ages and walks of life. Schools to clubs, military, corporate, birthdays, stag and hen events - the venue has hosted them all - as well as a few well-known faces. And faces don’t get more well known than Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie who were pictured in the national media recently going through their paintball paces at one of the sister sites in Surrey. If you’re not so keen on getting splattered with paint but still relish a bit a ‘derring do’, Skirmish Exeter has two equally exciting alternatives. Airsoft features the firing of small round pellets from replica guns and Skirmish Exter, now has a range of brand new AK47s available along with a wide range of hire kit, although players are welcome to bring their own equipment. It’s possible to play at any time, but the site holds dedicated days, with the last two of the year lined up for November 27 and December 11. If you really don’t fancy being hit by anything, Laser Tag, recently introduced at Skirmish Exeter, is just the thing for anyone over the age of eight.

The nursery also looks after youngsters on the inside, thanks to its onsite chef who prepares fresh meals on a daily basis, organic where possible and using local produce. With flexible sessions, breakfast, late and holiday clubs, Little Willows provides a welcome home from home for youngsters that accommodates the many and varied working hours of their parents - with whom it works closely to ensure routines are maintained.

FROM playing rugby to child’s play - Steve Ojomoh is tackling something completely different at the helm of Little Willows Day Nursery. The former Bath, Gloucestershire and England player is director of the nursery in Powlett Road, Bath, which offers full and part-time care for up to 66 children aged from 12 weeks to 12 years.

Believing strongly that creativity is paramount to learning experiences, the nursery team provides activities based around the children's next steps and interests and was last year awarded for its commitment to integrated learning. Further plaudits include a good Ofsted report and winning the Bath Chronicle BT Marketing Makeover competition. Eager to embrace and celebrate diversity, Little Willows has a sister nursery in Nigeria for whom it is holding a toy collection. It is also fund-raising so that two staff members can visit there in February 2013.

Celebrating the opening of our specialist clinic scheme. IT shouldn’t happen to a vet - unless it’s a £2.2 million plus state-of-the-art equine hospital. The vets at B&W Equine might fly indeed since the hospital opened on the four-acre site at Breadstone, Gloucestershire, at the beginning of October, making it the only clinic to have an MRI scanner in the South West and Wales. But despite the group now housing one of Europe’s most advanced equine diagnostic and surgical centres, complete with with MRI, CT, scintigraphy, orthopaedic and colic theatres, adult and neonatal intensive care suites, laboratory and isolation facilities and first-class intensive care facilities, the directors stress their continued dediction to creatures all great and small. "Our every-day clients with their every-day horse, whether it's a general hack or a little fluffy Shetland pony, are still incredibly important clients to us, along with all routine care, vaccinations and dentistry,” stresses the group’s Chris Shepherd. “Those people living in a little village with their one pony that they love dearly, must not think that now we’ve got all these wonderful facilities we’re going to dismiss their business. It’s just the opposite, they’re more important to us than ever before.” Caring - for animals and clients - remains at the heart of this fourpractice group, which was formed out of the merger of Bushy Equine Vets and the Willesley Equine Clinic in 2009 "Together we still have our local practices - which include Cardiff, Failand, Willesley and Breadstone - but we all benefit from a central modern equine facility offering unrivalled facilities," explains Chris. That also includes an eco friendly approach. The group worked along side Slimbridge Wildfowl & Wetlands trust to create a reed bed for water treatment and drainage. At the group’s heart are the individual clients whose much-loved pets receive the same care and attention no matter whether they’re humble ponies or high-class thoroughbreds like those from commercial clients which include racing yards, studs, polo yards, show jumpers eventing yards and dressage riders. An RCVS accredited practice, underlining its high veterinary standards including professionalism, equipment assessment, clinical governance and health and safety, it provides clinic and referral services, stud and reproduction and has specialists in surgery, reproduction and has specialists in surgery, orthapaedics, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine and dentistry. There are 26 vets in total but several hold specialist certificates. Ollie Crowe is a BVSc MRCVS Cert ES(orth) DipECVS European recognised specialist in equine surgery and Richard Hepburn BVSc MS(Hons) CertEM(IntMed) DipACVIM(LA) MRCSC, Diplomate of American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and a RCVS recognised specialist in equine internal medicine. Becky Jones, BVSc DVDI MRCVS, is one of only a handful of vets to hold the RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging while Dr Svend Kold, Dr MedVet, CUEW, RFP, MRCVS. RCVS is a specialist in equine surgery (orthopaedic) and Chris Shepherd MRCVS is

38

recognised as a European specialist in stud medicine and artificial insemination. “We offer high quality care, with access to some of the best diagnostic facilities, providing continual nursing and veterinary care for in-patients 24 hours a day,” says Chris. “With the opening of our specialist clinic we continue to offer unparalleled care and client communication.” Vets Might Fly, wrote James Herriot. These vets really do.

AP EQUESTRIAN My name is Alexander Peternell, I am a 4* International Event rider from South Africa, based in the UK for the last 10 years at my own competition yard with my wife Alice, who is a Grand Prix dressage rider. Our luxury competition yard, based in the South West of England has 45 stables, 60 acres, 20x60 waxed floodlit outdoor and 20x40 waxed indoor arenas, 2 horsewalkers, lunge pen & solarium.

My wife and I run the yard which has liveries of all levels and our own horses from promising youngsters to top level event/dressage horses and breeding Stallions. I decided to move to the UK as I believed it to be the best opportunity to take my eventing seriously and compete against the World’s elite, including Olympic Gold medallists and World Champions at every level of competition. Not only am I successful at producing young horses and bringing horses through the grades. I also regularly compete at 3 and 4 star level and have recently been placed at an International 3*. I also train and compete owners’ horses and train riders individually and hold regular clinics.

AP EQUESTRIAN Campaign aign gn fo for London 2012

I feel extremely privileged that we are not only in very close proximity to one of the largest specialist equine practices in the UK, B&W Equine Group, but they also sponsor me. All of our horses are regularly checked and have routine physio and dental work and our highest level competition horses are treated as top class athletes and are routinely checked by our vets. I qualified for London 2012 at Barbury International 3 star with my own horse, AP Uprising who I have trained and bought on since he started his eventing career at Intro level. Since qualifying, I have been taking every opportunity to gain points and increase my chances of representing South Africa at London 2012. Now that I have qualified for London 2012, I need the support of local businesses, sponsors and owners to join me on my journey. To own an event horse can be a thrilling experience! Even if you aren’t tempted to pick up the reins, you can still be involved in the excitement of eventing and even be part of London 2012 by becoming an owner Owning an event horse at any level of eventing enables you to be involved with the action, attending events & training and even using it to arrange hospitality days for your own clients. Event horses vary in price from around £12’000 for a good Novice horse to around £150’000 for an Advanced horse. There are many different ways to become an owner. You could become a syndicate which would mean everyone in the syndicate owns a share and the horse is usually owned and named after the syndicate. Alternatively, you could become an outright owner of a horse, which means the horse would compete in your name or under your company name and you could also advertise on the horses competition saddle cloth, rugs etc and have your company advertised by the commentator during an event. Events are very well attended with around 1’000 people attending a low key event up to 350’000 at a major 4 star like Badminton. Alex is looking for owners and sponsors to support him on his quest to ride at the London 2012 games. If you are interested in finding out more about what is involved with ownership or sponsorship, Alex would very much like to hear from you.

PROMPT U K

E U R O P EA N

L O G I S TICS

PROMPT Transport - to borrow another turn of phrase - it’s a haulage company that does exactly what it says on the tin.

The fleet makes up an impressive collection and is a far cry from the single small van driven by Mark when he launched Prompt Transport in 1985.

Goods of all sorts and sizes are whizzed safely and securely around the UK and Europe at any time of day and night.

Now, in 2011, it is one of the leading logistics companies in the South West of England and can be found at Bristol in impressive premises - which doubled in size to accommodate demand two years ago and cover more than 20,000 sq ft accommodating facilities for offloading and loading of containers and trailers together with Pick and Pack, stock control and inventory management.

Personal service and professionalism combine in a winning formula that ensures deliveries arrive wherever the customer wants them, whenever the customer needs them. “There’s no job we can’t cover,” declares company founder and managing director Mark Williams. “Our dedicated team of professional drivers and office staff pride themselves on delivering all requirements.” The wheels of this particular industry belong to a whole range of vehicles designed to handle all logistics requirements. Prompt Transport has 44-tonne articulated lorries, all of which are DAF trucks which are of Euro 5 specification endorsing the companies carbon footprint. 18t curtainside rigid lorries, 7.5t curtainside rigid lorries - most of which are equipped with tailift facilities - and high top 3.5t vans.

42

&

Just five miles from the M32 / M4 / M5 interchange, it’s the perfect spot where its fleet are easily found and a prime location for access to the rest of the country. The early days saw Mark servicing local businesses with small distribution needs but that soon changed and today Prompt Transport caters for blue chip companies. What hasn’t changed is the personal service. “We constantly strive to provide a flexible and innovative approach to customers’ requests, providing solutions that promote our excellent service at cost effective prices,” says Mark.

Then there’s the curtainside trailers, box trailers and a Moffet Mounty trailer (fork lift) and every vehicle in the fleet comes with GPS tracking.

“Our round-the-clock team can load and deliver to any time requested, with a contact available 24 hours a day. We also provide European services on groupage or full load basis.”

All are operated by personnel smartly turned out in uniforms and PPE supplied by Kitco.

Prompt Transport is particularly proud to be a member shareholder in the Pallet-Track pallet network, covering the Bristol area.

DYNAMIC D YNAMIC ELEGANCE THE RANGE ROVER EVOQUE

The all-new Range Rover Evoque has arrived in the South West, a vehicle that is as breath-taking to look at as it is to drive. Available as a stunning Coupé or a practical 5-Door model, the Range Rover Evoque brings dynamic handling and styling to the classic Range Rover package of luxury and all-terrain performance. The Range Rover Evoque exudes dynamic elegance and is available in three core design themes (Pure, Dynamic and Prestige) each of which define styling, interior comfort and equipment levels - though customers can personalise their vehicle using an array of options. As you would expect from a Range Rover, the interior features high quality materials and craftsmanship as well as offering a host of premium technologies - including an 8-inch, high-definition touch-screen display with optional dual-view technology.

The Range Rover Evoque represents accessible, desirable sophistication and is priced from £27,955 for an eD4 ‘Pure’ 5-door model (equipped with 6 speed manual gearbox and two–wheel drive) to £44,320 for a top-of-the-range Si4 ‘Dynamic’ Coupé (equipped with 6 speed automatic gearbox and LUX pack). The new Range Rover Evoque has been declared Car of the Year in the Auto Express New Car Awards. The Evoque was also named Best Compact SUV by Britain’s biggest-selling motoring magazine, with the Land Rover Discovery 4 scooping the award for Best Large SUV for the second successive year. Citing the Evoque’s ‘mould breaking’ looks and driving dynamics as key factors in its success, the magazine also praised its keen pricing: “The Evoque puts the hugely desirable Range Rover brand within the reach of compact executive car buyers for the very first time,” said Auto Express Acting Editor Graham Hope. “The fact it looks and drives the way it does serves only to underline its premium appeal. “The winner of the Auto Express Car of the Year prize really needs to break the mould – and the Range Rover Evoque does exactly that. You have only to look at its concept car styling to see why the British firm already has a bulging order book for the new baby of its range. Its appeal goes far beyond its distinctive styling.”

Entertainment options include Digital and Satellite TV, DVD playback capability - which passengers can enjoy via 8-inch screens mounted in the headrests and digital infrared wireless headphones. New sound systems, developed in partnership with audio specialist Meridian and including a range-topping 825W, 17-speaker system, are also available. However the true test is how it drives and, whether choosing two or four-wheel drive, the Range Rover Evoque delivers a rewarding experience thanks to its precise steering and agility. Naturally the Range Rover Evoque delivers all-surface capability and makes use of a unique suite of technologies to maximise performance and comfort in challenging on- and off-road conditions - including a Terrain ResponseTM system with settings for General Driving, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts and Sand to optimise driveability and comfort. For customers specifying the Adaptive Dynamics feature there is an additional ‘Dynamic’ setting that sees MagneRide™ dampers monitoring and adapting to vehicle movements 1000 times/second* to help minimise body roll and provide an even more balanced drive. A choice of engines are available - a 150hp 2.2 litre turbo diesel eD4 engine that delivers less than 129g/km CO2 (in front-wheeldrive coupé form), 190hp SD4 version which gets from 0-60mph in 8.0 seconds when equipped with the automatic gearbox and a new 240hp 2.0 litre turbo-charged petrol engine capable of 060mph in just 7.1 seconds.

46

Land Rover UK Managing Director Colin Green welcomed the recognition: “The first production Evoque was driven off the line at Land Rover’s Halewood manufacturing plant in Liverpool only a few months ago. To receive an accolade such as this so soon, and from such a respected journal as Auto Express, is a huge boost for the talented and dedicated professionals who have worked so hard and so long to bring the Evoque to market.”

wessexGARAGES

Wessex Garages, the well known Nissan franchise in the Bristol area, have been appointed as an accredited dealer for the new Nissan LEAF and are fully equipped to sell and service the new all electric vehicle. Wessex Garages are a privately owned company trading throughout the Bristol area and celebrate 25 years in business this year, selling and servicing both new and used vehicles. Besides the Nissan LEAF, they represent the Nissan GTR, and the Kia, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Abarth, and Hyundai ranges of cars and commercial vehicles across Wales and the South West. The team at Wessex are so friendly and helpful, that their feedback pages are full of glowing comments; they understand just how daunting new car purchase can be and will do everything they can to make the experience a pleasurable one. Finding the right vehicle for you, within your budget, which will give you years of trouble free motoring is very important to them, and this level of service and commitment extends to their after sales and service departments. They place a great reliance on customer feedback; and say “It’s simple, if something’s not right, speak to a manager, immediately.” The dealership is very excited by the prestigious World Car of the Year 2011 award for the Nissan LEAF. Described as the

48

world’s first mass produced affordable 100% electric car. The nominees are selected and voted on by 66 top level automotive journalists from around the world. The panel described the car as “the gateway to a brave new electric world.” In addition to its range, torque, speed and body, one of the qualities of Nissan LEAF that impressed the jurors was its performance; in their words: “Its low centre of gravity produced sharp turn-in with almost no body roll and no understeer. It feels just like a normal car, only quieter.” This accolade is a great achievement for the LEAF, which is the first all electric car to win this award. The award is vindication of Nissan’s long-term commitment to using innovation to benefit drivers and, in particular, to change the way people think about electric vehicles. Nissan Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn said: “This accolade recognizes Nissan LEAF, as a pioneer in zeroemission mobility, as comparable in its driving performance, quietness and superb handling to petrol powered cars; it validates Nissan’s clear vision and the values of sustainable mobility that we want to offer to customers.” Although it’s hard to beat petroleum-based power in terms of energy provided, the Nissan Leaf still manages an average 100 mile range and a top speed of 90 mph, with a 0 – 60 mph time of about eight seconds, due to the electric motors 207 pounds of torque, available from a standing start, pretty impressive for a small compact car!

Bristol Edition 10 (2):HorseWorld 13/02/2012 15:55 Page 49

wessexGARAGES The Leaf is powered by an 80kW, or 107 horsepower electric motor, which draws its power from a 24kW lithium-ion battery pack that is built into the car’s chassis low down and at the centre of gravity to greatly diminish body roll and improve handing. Indeed all the reviews I’ve seen so far remark on the LEAF’s great handling

The LEAF was created for short, urban journeys and should be well-suited to them. The key factors that are going to attract customers in the Nissan LEAF's direction are its superior environmental performance and low costs. The upfront purchase price is £28,990, which is a lot of money for a family hatchback, electric or otherwise. Being a full-blown electric vehicle, however, the LEAF benefits from a UK government incentive through which £5,000 of the purchase price can be claimed back. This leaves the LEAF looking like an expensive but not unaffordable alternative to conventional cars of a similar size. For the target market of owners doing less than 80 miles a day, running a LEAF should be a breeze. It might take eight hours to charge the car fully from the mains but a specialist 50kw DC quick charger can replenish the battery up to 80% of capacity in just 30 minutes. As these cars catch on and the network of quick charging posts grows, so the Leaf and other electric vehicles will look more viable. The car's on-board computer can recommend public charging points in the area and will update in real time as more come on line. The electric car could be finally coming of age.

Test drive the All New Nissan Leaf at Wessex Garages – Pennywell Road, Bristol – Today Telephone: 0117 935 0000

The LEAF’s official 100 mile range is just an estimate, of course, and will be affected by driving style, temperature, and other ambient conditions. Other factors, such as using the heating and cooling for the cabin or the head lights, will have a minimal impact.

First released in 2010 and designed from the ground up as an all electric vehicle, the styling of the Nissan LEAF is much like you might expect from a typical compact car, although much more modern looking. The front end is very low profile since there’s no combustion engine, and the styling has been very carefully thought out, from the unique quirky touches like the LED tail lights and bold headlights to the car’s aerodynamics which conserves electricity thanks to reducing the car’s drag. The Nissan LEAF has adequate cabin space with five spacious seats and features an easy to navigate dashboard which clearly displays the amount of battery power remaining. The coloured screen also doubles up as a top of the range satellite navigation system.

The LEAF uses regenerative breaking, which means that during deceleration, the electric motor is engaged to generate current to charge the batteries, whilst also slowing the car. So, much of the energy used to climb a hill can be recovered while going downhill.

THERE’S one company that doesn’t do ‘run-of-the-mill’ when it comes to providing exhaust systems.

Always innovative, one of the most exciting ventures for Infinity Exhausts this last year was was the August launch of sister company Infinity Graffix, specialising in printing and design. “We offer all types of clothing printing, such as for T-shirts, sweatshirts, workwear, hoodies, etc, exterior and interior signs, window graphics, stickers, banners, vehicle graphics, display products, leaflet design and printing and A-Boards,” explains Martyn. “There is no minimum order and we can offer discounts on bulk requests and free quotes. We appreciate that each job will have its own particular requirements and welcome all enquiries so that we can discuss specific needs.”

Infinity Exhausts custom builds the entire system to the individual machine - be it a customised car, classic car, standard car, kit car, 4x4, import, motor home, rally or race car, boat, motorbike or any other form of transport you can think of.

As 2012 gets under way, both companies are looking forward to the year ahead where the possibilities are - well, infinite.

“There’s no more having to choose from limited 'off the shelf' systems,” says managing director Martyn Davis. “All our exhausts, including silencers, are built in-house, allowing the system to be built to a customer’s exact requirements; from the style of the tailpipe to the sound produced.

For further information about Infinity Exhausts and its services, Visit: www. infinity-exhausts.co.uk Call: 01454 273123 To find out more about Infinity Graffix, go to www.infinitygraffix.co.uk

“Systems which have been carefully designed to a specific brief can give you just what you are looking for in performance, looks, function and durability. “By coming to us to have your exhaust systems and silencers manufactured in-house, you can choose the appropriate sound level for you - from quiet to mid sport or full sport. “With our vast range of tailpipes the whole package is manufactured to enhance the vehicle in performance and looks.” Whatever the project, only the best will do for Infinity Exhausts which, in its dedication to providing customers with the highest quality and service, only uses top-of-the-range T304 Grade Stainless Steel. “We ensure that all of our customers are supplied with a first-class product, manufactured to the highest specifications and with an unrivalled reputation for quality,” adds Martyn. “With our industry-leading lifetime guarantee, once you have an Infinity stainless exhaust system you need never worry about having to replace the exhaust again.”

Precision Component Services were founded in the teeth of the recession in September 2008 and are rightly proud of their success. After 20 years experience at all levels in precision turned components, Shane Norris decided to take the plunge and start his own company. Straight after he had used all his own resources to start the company, and buy the very best machines, the recession hit. Shane is not a man to accept defeat, he rolled up his sleeves and worked as a one man operation for two years, often until late; he utilised all his contacts, most of whom were happy to lend a hand, called in favours and turned nothing away, large or small. Working alone enabled him to keep his costs down and prices competitive, and with the support of his fiancée Karen, a successful business started to emerge. Precision specialise in the manufacture of Precision Components in any material from Stainless Steel to Plastic and can manufacture any batch size from 1 to 100,000 on Citizen sliding head machines, Doosan Puma 2000SY, fixed head CNC and full CNC milling. They particularly specialise in volume parts, their multi axis machines being able to turnout parts in one operation.

Precision Component Services moved into new premises in June doubling their floor space, and investing in two new machines, but as the business continues to grow Shane tells us that even more space will soon be needed. The company is working towards ISO accreditation in February 2012, and there can be no doubt that this hard working team will go from strength to strength

Precision Component Services Unit C3, Brearley Place, Baird Road Waterwells Business Park Gloucester GL2 2AF Tel: 01452 883914 Fax: 05603 124309 The machines run 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week, operating on the principle of “lights out machining,” running unattended overnight thus reducing labour costs and using cheaper night time electricity. Shane is proud to be able to turn out top quality components, cheaper in some cases, than the Chinese. Over the last 2 years the business has really started to grow and Shane called in Mark Fletcher, an experienced production manager who brought his own expertise and contacts to swell the order books. Shane is grateful for Mark’s contribution to the company and says that, “he gives me someone to bounce ideas off.” Shane has also been able to take on a full time employee, and an apprentice through the government’s apprenticeships scheme.

GILLARD PLUMBING & HEATING SERVICES The future is bright, the future is renewable, and Gillard Plumbing and Heating Supplies are your local experts. Richard Gillard has just returned from a 2 day seminar and training course at Worcester Bosch, already well known for their boilers and central heating systems, who are the market leaders in the field.

Richard is very excited about the future potential for renewable sources of energy and explained that from October the government will introduce an annual payment, index linked for 25 years, to householders who install renewable sources of heating. The payments will vary depending on the technology chosen and only installations carried out by accredited MCS installers will be eligible. The MCS accreditation is the equivalent for renewables to the Gas Safe qualification for gas engineers.

Whether you are considering a solar thermal installation for your hot water, a ground source heat pump, or maybe an air to air system, have a chat with Richard for the latest advice and most up to date information. Gillard Plumbing and Heating supplies are a well established company in the Caldicot area, dealing with all aspects of

52

plumbing and heating, both to the trade and to the DIY enthusiast. As a local family run company you can always be sure of good advice, based on more than 20 years experience. They are proud to have been awarded accredited installer status for Worcester Bosch a prestigious label which puts them at the top of the industry.

The merchant centre in Caldicot, which was opened a year ago, carries an extensive stock to cover all their customers’ plumbing and heating needs. The centre supplies a range of heating solutions from installing a complete gas or oil central heating system, replacing or repairing a boiler, routine servicing of your boiler and general maintenance. Gillard also undertake general plumbing work and have some innovative bathroom solutions available. There are finance options available if required. The merchant centre is also the place to find all your renewable heating requirements, but please bear in mind that only installations carried out by an accredited MCS installer will qualify for the government payment. An extended 5 year parts and labour warranty is available: and as central heating specialists they are available for emergency call outs and breakdowns, and are fully Gas Safe registered for natural gas boilers and gas fires.

works in conjunction with the Building Safety Group and CITB to ensure safety criteria are met.

N&S flooring ltd

The company offers a full range of services from highly technical wall cladding and Altro Whiterock Systems to solid timber installations and everything in between. Surface preparation, contract vinyl, safety flooring, linoleum, carpet, carpet tiles, engineered and laminate flooring, sports flooring systems and repair and maintenance work are all handled competently and professionally. “Membership of the Contract Flooring Association gives our company additional kudos and the Contract Flooring Journal is a good indicator of where the market is going and which new products and techniques are becoming available,” explains Nathan. “As much of our work is with corporate clients and local authorities, strong environmental credentials are important so where possible we look to work with suppliers that manufacture products within the UK. It’s a great way to cut down on lead times – and our carbon footprint – and we look to reduce waste at every stage of the process.”

The complete flooring company A Bristol company N & S Flooring Ltd have come through the recession in a strong position; sticking to a proactive business plan, and targeting carefully selected clients has carried them through, achieving steady growth of 3% a year. Director Nathan Sims, who has been with N & S Flooring for almost a decade, is very proud of the team’s achievement, turnover today is approximately £2m, 75% more than in 2001 when Nathan joined N & S Flooring. Extensive diversification from the company’s mainstay of domestic work of 10 years ago led to many large corporate clients joining their customer portfolio. The company prefers to deal with a wide variety of customers. They are not reliant on any one market although they do deal extensively in the education and health care sectors. Major clients also include Avon and Somerset Constabulary, Avon Fire Brigade, Bristol City Council, the University of the West of England, South Gloucester Council and United Bristol Healthcare Trust.

The company’s success depends very much on their employees, but as Nathan explained “It was becoming difficult to recruit people with enough experience in the industry so we set up an apprentice scheme through which we take young school leavers and train them up.”

Because of the volume of work in the education sector, all N & S Flooring employees are CRB checked – as well as being NVQ and CSCS qualified and health and safety certified. The team

This reinvestment in the community is typical of N & S Flooring’s great record as an employer. Staggeringly, no employee has ever left the company and some floor layers in their 50s joined in their teens; those as old as 70 years are appreciated as master craftsmen. The company was established in 1967 and Mike Newman is still the managing director today. In addition to Nathan, the team comprises finance director Claire Glayzer, contracts manager Toni Palmer and 15 full time floor layers who are joined by up to 12 sub-contractors. “At N & S Flooring there is no hierarchy and we make a fabulous team,” says Nathan. “When new systems and technology become available we are the first to complete training and roll out the benefits to our customers and that’s how we stay ahead of the game.”

Jungle Property, who let and manage residential property across Somerset, is celebrating yet another prestigious customer service award. They were nominated for the award by a client who wrote ‘We nominate Jungle Property for the WOW! Award because of outstanding service and consistently following through on what they promised. They listen to your needs and do their best to find what you are looking for. Jungle property go far beyond average expectations and are well deserving of this award as they not only provide a fantastic service but they restore one’s faith in honest dealing.’

Tom Morgan, owner and manager of Jungle Property They never forget that your property is your most valuable asset, so rest assured that your property will be in professional and caring hands with Jungle Property.

The WOW! Awards are the UK's only national award scheme for customer service based purely on customer nominations; companies include household names such as Easyjet, Ladbrokes and Friends Provident, and extend as far afield as the USA, very prestigious company for a small business from Somerset. Also in 2011, Jungle Property was Runner-up in the Somerset Business Awards 2011 for Service Excellence; indeed since 2010 Jungle Property has received over 20 nominations and 7 awards for outstanding customer service. Tom Morgan, owner and manager of Jungle Property comments: 'We are very proud of this award. Jungle Property places huge emphasis on the quality of service we provide, and this accolade is testament to the hard work carried out to ensure the letting and management of clients’ property is stress-free.' Tom has broad experience of the property letting industry both as a landlord and a tenant, due to many long term overseas postings. He found the service he received variable at best and frequently disinterested, and knew he could do much, much better! Tom has a passion for great customer service, understanding what his customers value, and efficiently and effectively delivering those priorities gives Jungle Property its purpose.

Tom invites you to try their 'hands-on' fresh approach to letting, backed by a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee, he says “I hope you have the opportunity to experience our award winning service. Please feel free to visit or call – our door is always open and the coffee is always fresh!”

WILL YOUR PLANS FIT YOUR FAMILY’S NEEDS? It is estimated that £1.3 billion was paid in unnecessary inheritance tax in 2011.

'one size fits all' and can provide sympathetic advice and cost effective practical support for families dealing with probate.

Sorting out personal and financial planning is one task that should be high on everyone’s agenda yet so few of us actually take the time to take the necessary steps to protect our longerterm financial interests. So, what are the main issues that you need to consider?

At Morgan Cole, our expert lawyers are here to help you make well informed choices tailored to your needs and circumstances. This includes effective wills, trusts, powers of attorney and inheritance tax planning. The team includes members of Solicitors for the Elderly who can provide expert guidance on planning in the context of long term care, support and advice for those dealing with the affairs of someone who lacks mental capacity and cost effective solutions for families dealing with probate.

Where there is a will, there is a way. To find out more or to arrange a no obligation, free of charge consultation please call 029 2038 5351 or visit www.morgan-cole.com/tailored_solutions today.

Your Will Did you know that without a will, not even a surviving spouse is always guaranteed to inherit everything and that a co-habiting partner has no automatic right to share in a deceased partner’s estate? With the rise in property values and extended family scenarios it is not surprising that disputes over wills and estates have increased dramatically in recent years. What is more, the families of those who fail to plan ahead may even face an unnecessary Inheritance Tax bill. Powers of Attorney Regardless of age, it really is essential to have an enduring or lasting power of attorney in place to ensure that your property and financial affairs will not be frozen in the event of an unexpected loss of mental capacity through accident or illness. Cost of Care Anyone in England with capital in excess of £23,250 (or £22,000 in Wales), will generally need to fund their own care (unless their need is primarily for health rather than social care in which case they may be eligible for NHS funding). It is estimated that the care home fees faced by many people could be as much as £65,000. If you want to take steps to protect your assets from being eaten up in paying for care it is important that you have the benefit of unbiased information and advice from a regulated professional about the potential risks and benefits. Choice of Advisor Despite the economic climate and the increasing proliferation of supermarket style legal products, you still need balanced and well-informed advice that enables you to make the right choices. Trusted advisors should work closely with you to ensure your personal planning fits your needs and circumstances rather than

DAWS transport DAWS Transport – You promise, we deliver! Its smiles all round when dealing with DAWS Transport Services Ltd - from customers and staff alike. Dealing with the family-owned Bristol-based transport and logistics company leaves customers beaming at its quality, flexibility and efficiency but also because of the manner of every team member who is fully signed up to its ethos of good oldfashioned customer service. Daren and Amanda are a husband and wife partnership that head the team based in Kingswood, Bristol. Established by Daren in 1994 what was originally a ‘one man and a van’ operation has since become a sought-after 24/7 transport and logistics company with a big reputation for handling big things, even though it retains its small, family-owned status.

“We handle large or small orders from large and small companies one of our key strengths is our ability to be flexible,” Daren points out. “Customers inform us of their needs and we make sure it happens. We deliver our customers promise to their customers.” Having enjoyed a better-than-expected 2011, the DAWS Transport team is looking forward to a good 2012 but, no matter how good that gets, they are determined that the familyfriendly status and personal approach will not falter. Daren says” It goes without saying that we are loyal to our customers and in return we find that our customers are loyal to us.” Daren, Amanda and the team would like to thank their existing customers for their loyalty in business over the years and long may it continue, Daren adding: “We welcome new customers to experience the flexible and professional service that our current customers receive.” To celebrate their success DAWS Transport are pleased to offer 10% discount to new customers throughout March and April 2012 (excludes bespoke service).

To enquire how DAWS Transport Services can be of service to you, Call Daren on 07831 650 691 (phone manned 24/7) or Mandy on 07901 944 561 alternatively email dawstransport@aol.com

The company initially specialised in same-day transport across the UK and into Mainland Europe - and continues to do so. Over the years it has also successfully branched into storage, point-ofsale installation work and exhibition/event logistics. Daren and Amanda work tirelessly within the core team of staff to ensure that everyone provides a high quality service across the board. It’s in all these areas that the DAWS team is determined to continue excelling throughout 2012, while looking to expand further into the exhibition and events sector. With Daren fully recognising that one size does not fit all, the key word for the company is ‘bespoke’. “I’m proud that we offer a bespoke service, I welcome new and existing customers to call me with their requirements so I can tailor-make a service to meet their needs,” he says.

Amanda adds: “Daren is highly skilled at logistics. Such is his commitment to doing the job in the best way possible; he is even prepared to buy specialised vehicles for long-term contracts”. The caring detailed approach has paid dividends, with nearly all the business coming through recommendation earning the company a loyal base of customers within industries such as flooring, building and fabrication, vending, recycling and confidential waste, NHS, high-end furnishings, installations, exhibitions and events. DAWS Transport is also proud to support a selection of local charities in providing them with a free delivery service within Bristol and the surrounding areas.
