Full Mortise One leaf is MORTISED in the DOOR edge, the other leaf is MORTISED in the JAMB. This is the most common hinge application. Hinges priced on pages 4-5.

Wide Throw

The WIDTH of the hinge is increased (i.e. 4.5" x 6"), moving the barrel away from the face of the door. Used when additional THROW is required to clear trim or wall conditions. Full Mortise Only. Priced on pages 4-5.

Half Mortise One leaf is MORTISED in the DOOR edge, the other leaf is applied to the SURFACE (face) of the JAMB. Used when conditions prevent the jamb leaf from being mortised. Call for Quote.

Full Surface One leaf is applied to the SURFACE (face) of the DOOR; the other leaf is applied to the SURFACE (face) of the JAMB. Used when conditions prevent both hinge leaves from being mortised. Call for Quote.

Half Surface One leaf is applied to the SURFACE (face) of the DOOR, the other leaf is MORTISED in the JAMB. Used when conditions prevent the door leaf from being mortised. Call for Quote.

Swing Clear The hinge leaves are formed to locate the barrel in a position that allows the door to SWING CLEAR of the opening when opened to 90 degrees. This permits hospital beds, wheelchairs etc. to pass through the opening without hitting the hinge edge of the door. Call for Quote

Anchor

The hinge leaves are mortised in the door and jamb at the top corner, ANCHORING the door in the jamb. Provides reinforcement and support at the top corner where stress can occur due to high frequency service. Full Mortise only. Call for Quote

Raised Barrel Both hinge leaves are offset to RAISE the BARREL off the jamb, allowing the door to swing without the knuckles rubbing on the jamb.

Used when a door is set deep into a wide frame, prohibiting the use of standard Full Mortise hinges.

Double Acting Spring

CHOOSING THE RIGHT SOSS HINGE FOR THE JOB DIRECTIONS: After determining the weight and width of the door, locate the value of the two scales and connect with a straight line that continues to line”A”.

Draw a line perpendicular to the rules in the table until you reach the proper wood thickness. Use the number and size indicated on this line

RECOMMENDED SPACING The “center” hinge should be located ½ the distance from the horizontal centerline of the door to the centerline of the top hinge.

On installations requiring 4 hinges, the second hinge from the top should be located ½ the distance from the door’s horizontal center line to the center line of the top hinge.

The third hinge from the top should be located ¼ of the ”B” dimension below the horizontal centerline of the door.

SOSS Invisible Spring Closer Hinge The closure rate is adjustable with an allen wrench after installation, and does not require removal of the closer. Installation can be either inside the door or inside the door jamb. Allow one spring closer for each 75lbs of door weight for all spring closers The closer is ideally suited for all types of doors 1-3/8” thick or more. Recommended spacing is one half of the distance from the center of the door to the center of the top hinge.
