This academic year, our theme is “Conflict Resolution.” Most view conflicts as bad. However, conflicts in life are inevitable. They can provide great opportunities

for

examining

events,

issues,

and

hidden

issues.

If

the

process of resolving conflicts transforms all involved, why not use them as opportunities for positivity, creativity, and growth. COVID-19 is one of the greatest threats to our world. It has made it abundantly clear that we need each other, and that positive collective action is indispensable. In that regard, you will be challenged to understand more about teamwork and

applications,

I

especially in a remote setting. Therefore, I strongly urge you to make the most of your time in PEP. If you feel overworked, don’t be afraid to reach out to me, our leaders and/or your peers in the program. PEP is not meant to compete with your academic responsibilities. We wish to provide you with the skills and resources that will help you succeed as a student and in your future career. In short, we are committed to stand with you and work with you as teammates.

Sincerely, Lulrick Balzora, PhD Dean of the Social Behavioral Sciences & Human Services Broward College

ELIGIBILITY PEP

internships

and

opportunities

are

open

to

all

Broward

College

students.

The

program provides a Social & Behavioral Sciences & Human Services perspective for all subject areas. You must apply for the internship by the end of the third week of each semester. If you already participated in a PEP semester internship, you may re-apply for placement with

the

same

or

a

new

internship

assignment.

To

be

eligible,

you

must

meet

the

following qualifications: • Minimum overall grade point average of 3.50 • Excellent references • Internship application

CREDITS To receive full credit for the internship in Political Science, you must complete the required hours at your internship site, as well as all required assignments. • For one (1) credit, you must complete five (5) per week or forty-five (45) hours for the grading period. • for two (2) credits, you must complete ten (10) hours per week or ninety (90) hours for the grading period.

ATTENDANCE All Interns should work with their lead interns and the PEP coordinator to establish a schedule; try to be flexible. As situations change, schedules may need to be adjusted. The schedule must indicate the days of the week and the hours that you will be at your internship site. Your lead intern and PEP coordinator must also approve the schedule.

Regular attendance and punctuality are critical. You should not miss scheduled days at your internship project site and should always arrive on time. If a scheduled day is missed

due

to

an

excused

absence,

you

must

inform

your

lead

intern

and

your

internship project site in advance and both must determine an appropriate time to make up the missed hours. Failure to do so will affect your status in the program.

In the event of an extended illness or absence, you and your lead intern and internship program

supervisor

may

make

alternative

arrangements.

You

must
