WELCOME Welcome to the Professional Enhancement Program!

Throughout

the

year,

our

PEP

interns

will

engage

in

special projects, internships, experiences, and service opportunities

that

allow

you

to

apply

theoretical

knowledge and skills in a practical setting. In essence they will learn how to maximize their opportunities.

This academic year, our theme is “Teamwork and diversity.” One of the wisest

men

in

history

stated,

“A

cord

of

three

strands

is

not

quickly

broken.” In other words, there is strength in numbers and in teams. COVID19 is one of the greatest threats to our world. It has made it abundantly clear

that

we

need

each

other,

and

that

positive

collective

action

is

indispensable. In that regard, students will be challenged to understand more

about

teamwork

communication

and

and

real-world

leadership

skills,

Therefore,

we

to

school

are

this

year,

committed

to

helping each student to make the most of their time in PEP. The program is not meant to compete with the academic and professional responsibilities of

participants.

We

wish

to

provide

each

student

with

the

skills

and

resources that will help them succeed in their future career. In short we are committed to stand with them and work with them as teammates.

Sincerely, Lulrick Balzora, PhD Dean of the Social Behavioral Sciences & Human Services Broward College

MAXIMIZE THROUGH "TEAMWORK & DIVERSITY" THEME A wise man taught, “A cord of three is not easily broken.” In other words, each individual strand is stronger when bound together in unity - into one cord. That is a great metaphor for the power of "team diversity".

In support of this year's theme, you will be provided two books: "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team" by Patrick Lencioni and Harvard Business Review's "On Teams". The Five Dysfunctions of a Team is the fictional story of a new CEO and the team she is tasked to lead. Many business leaders have praised this leadership fable because it provides a solution to a
