$50 million
for Child Health BC
With your support, we’ve successfully completed the Campaign for BC Children!
for a new BC Children’s Hospital
There is a saying, “making the decision to have a child is to decide forever to walk around with your heart outside yourself.” As the father of three beautiful girls, I can say that truer words were never spoken. I am also confident that all of the parents and grandparents reading this feel exactly the same way. And so, when BC Children’s Hospital Foundation offered me the privilege of chairing its Campaign for BC Children, I gladly accepted. Our lofty mission was to engage the community to support the planning, design and construction of a new, state-of-the-art Children’s Hospital. As well, we raised funds to support a brand new initiative called Child Health BC, with the goal of ensuring excellent and consistent health care for children, wherever they live in the province. Our campaign for $200 million, considered ambitious at the time, was the largest hospital capital campaign ever undertaken in BC – and one of only a few ever undertaken in the country. We formally launched our campaign in April of 2008. Today, I am delighted to tell you that, together, we’ve reached our goal! More than 80,000 people, from every corner of the province, shared our vision of a healthier future for our children and donated to the campaign. Thank you! Communicating with the province was made easy with the help of our amazing campaign media partners, Global BC, the Pattison Broadcast Group and The Vancouver Sun. Management and staff demonstrated their deep, personal commitment and through all of the years, their steadfast support never wavered. Thank you!
$200 million
Of course, none of this would be possible without the support and leadership of the Government of British Columbia. This project, which will profoundly affect tens of thousands of young lives over many decades to come, demonstrates the good that comes when community and government work together. Thank you! Finally, major kudos to the volunteers and staff who worked so hard to make this campaign a success. My colleagues on the Campaign Leadership Cabinet spent countless hours sharing our vision and urging people to participate. Thank you! The new Children’s Hospital will open its doors in early 2018. I hope my children will never require its services. But, for all of our children, I am grateful that it will be there. Substantially bigger. Remarkably better. On behalf of all of BC’s children and their families, for generations to come, thank you!

The Teck Acute Care Centre — the heart of the new BC Children’s Hospital. Inside the Teck Acute Care Centre, patient rooms will be comfortable, provide family space and offer life-saving features. Staff spaces will be built to let caregivers do their best work, with the tools and technology they need. And, whenever possible, staff will deliver care at the patient’s bedside, rather than moving the child from location to location. These advances, and many more, will transform the delivery of care to children.
