Where is Nottingham?
The cost of living in Nottingham is significantly lower than in many other UK cities, particularly London. We estimate that you will need £650-£680 per month, in addition to tuition fees. There are part-time job opportunities available for students, and the Students’ Union has an employment store to help you find a suitable part-time job.
invested to rejuvenate the building and its innovative multimedia facilities. Our Design students also have access to one of the largest latest generation Apple Mac suites of any UK university.
Nottingham is a major UK city, conveniently located approximately 1.5 hours north of London by train. It is home to two of the UK’s most successful universities and 10% of its population are students. It is familiar to many students from Hong Kong who have extended family living here and has a lively and integrated mix of young Asian, African, Caribbean and European communities. The city celebrates the culinary, cultural and religious aspects of this diversity and is a dynamic, friendly and welcoming place. There is a wealth of culture and entertainment on offer including theatres, live music, museums and cinemas. Nottingham is also famous for shopping; there is a great range of designer and high street fashion shops in the centre, including the Paul Smith shop, the East Midlands Designer Outlet store as well as the Exchange Mall and FH Mall. The city has strong sporting links and enjoys more sports facilities per head of population than anywhere else in Europe. Nottingham is famous for its two professional football teams, rugby union, cricket and ice hockey teams. Facilities in the region include the National Ice Centre, the National Water Sports Centre which offers international rowing and canoeing facilities, and one of Europe’s largest Lawn Tennis Association tennis centres. Public transport provides fast access to many of the country’s major cities, including London. Major international airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester are only a train or coach trip away and offer flights to destinations all around the world. East Midlands Airport is only 20 minutes away from the city and offers many flights within Europe.

Samantha Lee
BSc Computer Science (Games Technology)
BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing and Branding
“Michael attended International School in Hong Kong where he took the International Baccalaureate. Before he came to Nottingham he was living in Canada during his gap year.
“Samantha was recently voted President of the Nottingham Trent University Chinese Society. Before she came to the UK Samantha was living in New Zealand.
“I heard about NTU when I attended the British Council exhibition in Hong Kong. Some of the Chinese Society were there and they told me about the University. “For my final year project I did a lot of 3D modelling and used computer modelling to make a 3D map of Clifton campus – you can walk around and explore the campus on it. I was surprised how good the facilities are here. There is a lot of upto-date hardware which is very good and easy to access. “As well as the technical skills I learned lots of useful skills such as time and project management. These are skills that will be very useful for when I am applying for a job.”
“The teachers here are very informative and it is easy to get hold of them. If I email them they get back to me almost immediately. “Everything we do is closely aligned to industry. For example, we do lots of industrial projects which relate directly to what is happening on the high street. “I think I would like to stay here in the UK and work in fashion promotion. It’s a great place to study this subject. I am interested in working in advertising or virtual merchandising. I think this course here will be very useful for me. “I am very excited to be the President of the Chinese Society. We have organised trips to London and had karaoke parties which are very popular. There are around 100 members from China, Hong Kong and some British born Chinese. We look forward to having lots of new members.”
