We have a team of highly qualified trainers who will design and run training programmes to meet your company’s individual training needs. Coming from a variety of backgrounds, our trainers also have expertise in a range of specialisms. This means we can focus more specifically on your requirements. British Council trainers continuously update and develop their skills and knowledge through our in-house development programmes.

At the British Council we focus on learning. Our training is designed to be relevant to your company’s needs with carefully prepared work-related materials. Learning is highly interactive, using role-plays and simulations and catering for all learner styles. As well as making learning a fun and enjoyable experience this methodology also ensures that what is learnt in the classroom can be readily applied in the workplace.

/ 7900 start with a language assessment before presenting a formal training proposal. After a training schedule has been agreed, we will draft a contract and then invoice you once the training starts.

Language assessment We offer courses from Elementary to Advanced level. To ensure your staff get the full value of the course we group your staff in classes according to their level. The test has sections on Grammar, Vocabulary and Reading and an interview with one of our trainers to test their speaking and listening skills. There is no pass or fail mark. Candidates will be provided with scores from A1 to C1.2 on the Common European Framework.

CUSTOMISED LEARNING OBJECTIVES For customised courses, learning objectives and syllabuses are written specifically for each group of 20 participants. BUSINESS COMMUNICATION SKILLS TRAINING

Our Business Communication Skills courses are divided into two streams: Speaking for Success and Speaking and Writing for Success. These courses are specially designed to help Malaysian professionals communicate more effectively in the work place by combining English language training with useful soft skills training, e.g. taking part in meetings or telephone skills.

Learning Aims The British Council has developed Business English learning aims according to Common European Framework levels, and these form the basis of our course syllabus design. Whether you choose a customised or off-the-shelf course we will ensure the grammar needs of your staff are integrated with the four skills: reading, writing listening and speaking within a syllabus focussed on functional language, real-world communication and soft skills. An example of one of our Upper Intermediate learning aims is: “I can follow extended discussions within my field of work: understanding industry trends; discussions about company products/practices” This approach to organizing the course will result in more interactivity and communication among the participants, who will feel more confident in their everyday person-to-person interaction as a result.

Assessment Assessment takes place during the course in the form of assessed tasks and short tests. Learner training is an important element of our methodology and participants will learn how to assess their own performance, peer review each other’s work and be better learners inside and outside the classroom.

The four key parts of the test are as follows: • core Test Grammar, Vocabulary and Reading • skills Test of Speaking • skills Test of Listening • skills Test of Writing Results from the British Council Professional English Test will also facilitate: • Benchmarking purposes • Filtering potential future employees for interview • Filtering students to identify those ready for IELTS • Filtering current employees for promotion

Exams The British Council is the leading examinations administrator. We are the official IELTS Test Centre. Currently, British Council IELTS is available at over 10 locations around Malaysia. We also hold exams for schools, foreign universities, institutes and professional bodies of further educations that cover a wide range of academic and vocational subjects.
