Setting the scene Central organisation through which applications are processed for entry to full-time higher education (HE) courses in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland All UK universities are members of UCAS Undergraduate courses are recruited through UCAS

Key features of admissions scheme Maximum of 5 choices Some choice restrictions: Medicine, Veterinary, Dentistry – max 4 choices Oxford or Cambridge Simultaneous consideration ‘Invisibility’


Key features of admissions scheme Mid-June

Apply 10 available for student registration

MidSeptember

First day for receipt of applications

15 October

Early ‘on-time’ deadline: Medicine, Veterinary and Dentistry Oxford or Cambridge

15 January

Deadline for all other ‘on-time’ applications

30 June

Applications received after this date will go into Clearing


Making an application Every applicant has five sections to complete: Personal details Choices Education Employment Personal Statement If applying by a school then Tutor will then complete: Reference Î UCAS Î Universities / Colleges


University decisions A university or college will do one of the following: Make you an unconditional offer Make you a conditional offer Not offer you a place Offer you a different course


Your decision If you receive all unconditional offers, you decide which one to accept If you receive conditional offers, you may hold two until you know your results – one as first choice, one a backup. You must decline all other offers If no offers, you can make an Extra choice – starts end of February If your results do not meet the conditions, there is Clearing



Track Online service May be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week Secure site - password protected (same logins as they used to make their application through Apply) Username is printed on the welcome letter, but NOT the password Shows choices, offers, personal information Applicant able to: Make additions Record replies Amend notification options
