Our courses are designed to stimulate and motivate students through enjoyable activities. We aim for every child to communicate clearly, confidently and accurately in English. • Develop social skills: Lessons include group and pair work to develop teamwork, co-operation and other social skills necessary for later life. Teachers encourage learners to work effectively with others through games and role-plays and to contribute confidently to class discussions. • Learn in a safe, friendly and supportive environment: Your child’s welfare is our first concern. We have security guards to ensure the British Council is a safe and welcoming place. Classroom assistants are present in several classes to help the youngest children feel comfortable. If your child has any special needs (for example, asthma, allergies or a physical mobility disability) please let us know before the course starts.

What levels do you have for Young Learners?
Primary (Grades 2 - 5)
Primary 1
This is an introductory level for those Primary students who are starting out in their English studies. Students are given lots of opportunities to practice listening, speaking, reading and writing on familiar topics. This course is designed for Grade 2 and 3 students only.
Primary 2
At this level, students begin to use more language and continue to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
Primary 3
These students will further develop all the four skills and extend their vocabulary in a variety of everyday topics.
Primary 4
At this level students will develop all their English skills and vocabulary to deal with more complex topics and situations. This course is designed for Grade 4 and 5 students only.
Primary 5X and 5Y
These students will be able to have longer conversations on familiar topics and ask questions, and give their opinions on them. In this level they will continue to develop all four skills as well as confidence. These courses are rotated on a yearly cycle and are for Grade 4 and 5 students only.

Levels
Secondary 1
A very basic level for those starting to learn English which is not available in Ho Chi Minh Teaching Centre at the moment.
Secondary 2
A basic level course to enable students who have had little experience speaking or listening to English to develop their confidence. By the end of this level students will be able to communicate simply about topics that are familiar to them.
Secondary 3
Secondary (Grades 6 - 9)
Secondary 4
Students will develop their language skills and gain an understanding of basic English structures and vocabulary. They will develop their ability to communicate effectively on a variety of everyday topics. Students will extend their language knowledge and gain confidence in their skills. They will be able to speak for longer and communicate on a broader range of topics, giving their opinion and agreeing or disagreeing with the opinions of others.
Secondary 5
These students will be able to communicate in more complex situations and form opinions on topics that are new to them. They will be able to converse in English for longer periods of time on a variety of topics. They will be able to clearly present their opinion in both written and spoken English on a variety of subjects.
Secondary 6
At this level, students are becoming more aware of the subtle differences between formal and informal English, both in spoken and written form. They will broaden their vocabulary further which will enable them to express themselves with more clarity and subtlety in different situations.
Secondary 7X and 7Y
By the end of this level, students will be confident and effective speakers, they will be able to carry out a conversation on a broad range of topics and present their opinion clearly both in written and spoken English. They will also be able to adapt their language to suit their audience. These courses will be rotated in a yearly cycle. If students complete both these courses before they are in Grade 10, they have finished studying at the British Council.

English for Young Adults (EYA) (Grades 10 to 12) A basic level course to enable students who have had little experience speaking or listening to English to develop their confidence. By the end of this level students will be able to communicate simply about topics that are familiar to them.
EYA Elementary
EYA Pre-Intermediate
As students progress to Pre-Intermediate, they will develop their language skills and gain an understanding of basic English structures and vocabulary. They will develop their ability to communicate effectively on a variety of everyday topics. At Intermediate level, students will extend their language knowledge and gain confidence in their skills. They will be able to speak for longer and communicate on a broader range of topics, giving their opinion and agreeing or disagreeing with the opinions of others.
EYA Intermediate
EYA Upper-Intermediate
Upper-Intermediate students will be able to communicate in more complex situations and form opinions on topics that are new to them. They will be able to converse in English for longer periods of time on a variety of topics. They will be able to clearly present their opinion in both written and spoken English on a variety of subjects.
EYA Pre-Advanced
In this course, students will continue their studies at a more challenging level. As well as the usual general English input, this course introduces an academic element which is a useful basis for students planning to do an examination in the future such as IELTS. It is not an exam preparation course, but instead combines building vocabulary and language skills with examination type exercises to prepare students for an advanced level course.
EYA Advanced
This course will build students’ vocabulary and communication skills to a high level. By the end of the Advanced level, students will be confident and effective speakers, they will be able to carry out a conversation on a broad range of topics and present their opinion clearly both in written and spoken English. They will also be able to adapt their language to suit their audience.

3. Course options: The teacher will talk to you about your level of English, learning goals and the time you have available to study
4. Timetable options: Our Customer Services Advisers on the ground floor will show you the timetable options
5. Registration: You can register or reserve if there is an available course. Your language assessment is valid for 6 months if you choose to wait. If classes are full you are added to a waiting list 6. Start your course and make the most of our other learning resources

There are usually 3 terms in each level, each term is 64 hours, but in exceptional cases your child may be moved up sooner or may have to study for longer

Courses in the summer are either 2 hours x 4 days or 4 hours x 2 days a week (64 hours, 8 weeks) Lessons are Monday to Saturday
Special term in summer with project work
How can I know about my child’s progress?
Detailed mid-term report after 8 weeks. End of term report, certificate and parent-teacher meeting after 16 weeks. Any absences or problems reported to you. During term you are welcome to email, telephone or make an appointment to talk to us about your child’s progress
Receive a certificate with an overall grade in week 8
How does my child progress?
Your teacher will assess your child’s ability and progress through a series of continuous assessment tasks and give a grade for each skill at the end of the course.
