THE OLYMPIC SITE AND HACKNEY WICK TRAIN STATION

FOUND OBJECTS AND WRAPPING

40 % of the Olympic visitors are expected to use hackney wick train station which is located 20-30 minutes away from Olympic stadium. At the moment Hackney wick is under construction. Every part of it is getting renewed. This construction has been going on for years, many buildings have been demolished, 90’s architecture already left the town. Old London look is long gone Its now almost completely new. For those tourists whom would like to learn about England history or lifestyle will have to travel inland to get a closer look to reality. Unfortunately Hackney wick has became European scene for European people.

Community point of view is not important at this point , regardless of what locals may think the bright new red sculpture of Anish Kapoor standing can be one of the many examples of it. However I think it is also good for the community, Hackney wick is one of the cleanest places I have seen in London, it is not clear whom this cleaning is for but it is a definite advantage for locals.

Object 1- Hub cab in recycling bag Object 2 - Peg tide up with Object 3 - Mirror partially wrapped with cling film I refer to these wrappings in very metaphorical way. For instance, I chose the first object because of its dirt in the inside and the shinney surfaces on the outside, reminds me of the Olympic site. Many buildings have been demolished including houses to create such mass scaled design to occupy number of visitors for one summer. Some of those designs later on will turn into houses for residents. However the approach to the site is very European and very far away from how Britain lives or lived. For many visitors it may

be a place to adapt easily ut if one isn’t going to reflect on its own countries beauty what is the point of having such mass scale international gathering. The site is also interesting in terms of the arrangements and the tidiness. The beauty of the area can even now be imagined however there is nothing to community in those designs. Similar thoughts on mirror , referring to how one can transform itself in front of a mirror, especially women and make up. The Olympic site at the moment feels like a bit of make up on Hackney wick covering the patches that makes Hackney wick interesting. As the object three tells the same story with shiny string covering the metal surface of the peg.

ROUTE MAPPING

B

Cepezed Architects The façade is made of a 300 square meter area of stainless steel mesh which holds thin transparent plastic disks. Wind causes the mesh to vibrate and move the disks which ‘ripple and create intricate patterns in the light’.

Designed by Eduardo Arroyo of NO.MAD Arquitectos,Aranjuez, Spain Called Casa Zafra, the two-storey house is inspired by crooked geometry and has a wire-mesh facade on the south-facing wall. The occupant can change their view of the surrounding landscape using mobile screens.

The images are shows the changes that happened in hackney wick station in 2 weeks time. It also represents the importance of Olympic which has certain importance to the government, and economy but the question is it worth and why is it so important ? Many building also been demolished and replaced with contemporary buildings . Which doesn’t reflect England.

Scale 1.250 MATERIAL ANALYSIS 1. Metal mesh : Possibly the one of the main structure element. - Lightweight, strong 2. Timber/wood : Possible structure element. However it doesn’t reflect on site conditions -Lightweight, strong 3.Concrete: Structure of the bridge might

not be able to carry the amount of weight. Heavy weight, Strong 4.Glass: Reflective and translucent. 5. Acrylic : Reflective and translucent , also the opacity and the colour can be arranged. Less stronger than glass.

PROTOTYPES

With these prototypes I have tried to find and experiment with materiality. How it changed and the effects. This experiment led me to the acrylic and metal mesh structure use. With acrylic I will be able to print images on also opacity and the colour can be arranged for different images.
