WorthNoting BOSTON COLLEGE vs. MERRIMACK Merrimack is only one of three teams in Hockey East the Eagles have not faced off against this season (Vermont, Notre Dame) as the Warriors make their way into Kelley Rink for a Wednesday night tilt on NESN. Wednesday’s puck drop stages one of the longest running streaks in Hockey East as the Warriors are in search of their first victory within Conte Forum since Oct. 31, 1997 (6-4). Twenty-eight games have transpired between Halloween of ’97 in which Boston College has mounted a 25-0-3 record against Merrimack within that stretch. All-time at Kelley Rink, BC is 35-6-3 against Merrimack since the start of Hockey East play. All-time, the Eagles possess a 62-21-5 overall edge as all 21 losses and five draws against MC occurred in Hockey East action. Merrimack head coach, Mark Dennehy, a former Eagle under Len Ceglarski, started off his career against Jerry York winless in his first 19 meetings. York posted a 17-0-2 mark against Dennehy’s club until he obtained the elusive first win over his alma mater on Nov. 1, 2009, in North Andover. In all, York is 27-4-3 against Dennehy. Merrimack’s has won once in its last nine tilts against the Eagles with that victory taking place on Feb. 15, 2013, when Conor Toomey scored an overtime game-winning power play goal with 31 seconds left in overtime in North Andover. Wednesday’s game marks the first time Merrimack was ever ranked high than BC. The last time these two clubs were ranked was Feb. 24, 2013. MACK’TION Merrimack will tout a high ranking than Boston College on Wednesday evening as the Warriors have been pegged the No. 14 team in the country after sweeping No. 12 Quinnipiac in a home-and-home this past weekend. The Warriors started the season with an unblemished 4-0 mark and skated through November with a 6-3 record. Before its sweep of Quinnipiac, Merrimack defeated No. 8 Minnesota in Minneapolis in the first round of the Mariucci Classic before losing to Hockey East foe UMass Lowell in the finals on Jan. 3. The Warriors have sported several prized recruits in recent past and this year is no different as rookie Brett Seney was taken the league by storm. Seney is tied for 38th, nationally, in scoring with 10 goals and 11 assists (1.00 ppg) and tied for 12th in college hockey with three game-winning goals. In the NCAA, Seney is tied for fourth amongst all first-year scared and the second most productive scorer (behind BU’s Jack Eichel) in Hockey East. Defensively, though, is where Merrimack shines brightest. Heading into Wednesday, Merrimack ranks fourth in the NCAA in team defense (1.95 goals per game) and is one of only four other teams in the country (Yale – 1.53, Cornell – 1.65 and Vermont – 1.78) to hold their opponent to under two goals per game. Senior goaltender Rasmus Tirronen and newcomer Collin Delia have seen most of the time as Tirronen is taking the brunt of it. Both backstoppers rank in the top 15 in save percentage and goals against. Dellia ranks eighth in both goals against average (1.83) save percentage (.935) while Tirronen is 11th in goals against (1.94) and 15th in save percentage. Merrimack’s strong defense can be attributed to its fourth-ranked penalty in all the land, as one of four teams in the NCAA to stop opponents at a rate of 90 percent (82-for-91 – 90.1 percent) on the penalty kill. PRIME TIME EAGLES Wednesday’s broadcast marks the third time in four games the Eagles have been shown live on the New England Sports Network. BC took down Northeastern’s on Jan. 10, 4-2, before defeating Boston University on the road on Jan. 16. ROOKIE ROMP All goal scorers in Friday night’s victory over Boston University at Agganis were all freshmen. Rookies Alex Tuch (2), Noah Hanifin and Zach Sonford teamed up to help push BC to victory. CRACKING JACK - Boston College held the nation’s leading scorer, Jack Eichel , to a -2 plus/minus rating in the BU win on Jan. 16. In 20 games as a Terrier, Eichel had finished with a minus only two other times, including against Maine on Nov. 21 (-1) and Dartmouth on Nov. 30 (-2).

Eaglesin140 - Boston College held the longest unbeaten streak in the country heading into the Maine contests, BC was unbeaten in eight games from Nov. 29 - Boston College has not lost a game when it has scored a power play goal - Freshman defenseman Noah Hanifin has registered an assist in his last three outings - Jerry York is now just 24 wins shy of reaching the 1,000-career victory benchmark for his career @BCHockeynews | #BCvsMC | #WeAreBC

BEAK STREAK After a bit of an uneasy start (4-5-0), Boston College had rattled off the nation’s longest unbeaten streak that spanned from Dec. 5, 2014, to Jan. 16, 2015. Over the course of that time, the Eagles recorded a 6-0-2 mark in their unbeaten string of eight games. The Eagles’ unbeaten string started on Dec. 5 with a 2-2 draw at New Hampshire and concluded after losing at Maine on Jan. 18. PARSING THE PAIRWISE Boston College is currently 19th in the Pairwise rankings with an RPI of .5397. The Eagles are currently sixth amongst Hockey East teams as BU (eighth), UMass Lowell (ninth), Vermont (T-12th), Merrimack (T-12th) and Providence (15th) all rank ahead of the Eagles to this point. TAG, YOU’RE IT When Boston College scores first, the Eagles have mounted a 9-2-1 record. POWER PLAY IS PARAMOUNT Scoring on the power play has proved to be key to the Eagles’ success in the early goings of the 2014-15 schedule. Boston College is an unblemished 9-0-0 when scoring at least one power play goal. When denied a power play goal, the Eagles are 4-8-2. COMEBACK KIDS In two recent contests in which Boston College was trailing heading into the third period, the Eagles have either rallied back to tie or win. At New Hampshire on Dec. 5, Austin Cangelosi netted the game-tying goal with 4:45 left in regulation in Durham while Chris Calnan and Teddy Doherty teamed up in the third period at Dartmouth on Jan. 2 to overcome a onegoal deficit and take down the Big Green, 3-2, after trailing heading into the final period. #TROPHYSEASON Boston College captured its first trophy of the season after knocking off ECAC foes Brown and Dartmouth, respectively, on Jan. 2-3. The 2015 Ledyard Classic marked the Eagles third showing at the tournament. Boston College is 2-for-3 at the Ledyard Classic. The Eagles won in 2010 after beating Colgate and Mercyhurst and lost in their first showing in 1978. MAN-UP MAYHEM Over the course of the games on Jan. 2-3, the Eagles netted three-consecutive power play goals. Adam Gilmour and Austin Cangelosi both scored on the power play to close out Brown while Gilmour opened the scoring against Dartmouth with a power play strike. With that, Gilmour became the first Eagle to score power play goals in consecutive outings this season. DETERMINED IN DECEMBER Boston College finished the month of December with an unbeaten 2-0-1 mark. Over the course of their last nine games in December, the Eagles are 6-1-2 with their lone loss coming against Minnesota in the Mariucci Classic on Dec. 30, 2012. MOVIN’ ON UP Following the victory over BU and loss at Maine Boston College is now in fourth place, owning 14 points in Hockey East play. From here on out, the only remaining non-conference tilts for the Eagles are the two Beanpot contests.

A GRAND OL’ TIME Jerry York’s countdown to 1,000-career victories is officially on. York reached his 976thcareer triumph against Boston University on Jan. 16 and now has 24 wins left to reach 1,000. GILMOUR ARENA Adam Gilmour’s two-career goals at Northeastern’s Matthews Arena have proved to be timely. The Hanover, Mass., native’s first goal at Matthews Arena took place in the form of the overtime winner on Nov. 2, 2013. In his trip to Huntington Ave. on Jan. 9, 2015, Gilmour scored the game-tying goal with 2:15 remaining in regulation to force a draw. AMERICAN EAGLES Thatcher Demko, Noah Hanifin, Ian McCoshen, Alex Tuch and Miles Wood (incoming in ‘15’16) represent Boston College as five of 23 skaters for the 2015 U.S. National Junior Team roster as announced by USA Hockey on the night of Dec. 25. Team USA was dealt an early exit following a loss to Russia in the quarterfinals, but Tuch accounted for a goal and an assist while Hanifin logged a pair of assists over the course of the 2015 World Junior Tournament.

BC: THE NHL’s FIRST CHOICE Not only did Boston College lead all of college hockey in 2013-14 by dispersing 26 Eagles across the National Hockey League, BC has placed 18 skaters on opening night rosters for the 2014-15 NHL season. That mark is tops in Hockey East. In regards to college hockey, seven first-round picks are among the nearly 200 NHL draft picks on college rosters, including at least one on 40 teams. Boston College is the only team in the country with two first-round draft picks, including junior captain Michael Matheson (Florida – 23rd) and Alex Tuch (Minnesota – 18th).

HOCKEY HALL CALL Farkas earned All-America accolades, was a Hobey Baker finalist and ranks sixth all-time in scoring (190). Hogan was instrumental in resurrecting this treasured sport at Boston College, following suspension of hockey as a varsity sport during the Great Depression. Reasoner earned NCAA East first-team honors, AHCA All-America honors, twice captured All-Hockey East first-team honors and helped bring BC to the NCAA National Championship game in 1998. CHANGING OF THE GUARD Following yet another 25-win year, fourth in the last five seasons for Boston College, the Eagles leapfrogged Boston University in all-time win percentage in Hockey East play. In 30 seasons, the Eagles have compiled a 449-20-75 record for a league-best 62.9 win percentage in 30 seasons as a found member of Hockey East. SEASON 26 AT KELLEY RINK BC celebrates its 26th season of playing hockey on Kelley Rink at Conte Forum. Starting in 1988, the BC’s overall record at Kelley Rink is 295-114-35 (.704). The Eagles played at McHugh Forum prior from 1958-86 when Boston College posted an overall mark of 282-95-10 (.748). EAGLES TABBED SECOND IN HOCKEY EAST PRESEASON POLL Boston College has been chosen to finish second in the 2014-15 Hockey East Preseason Poll, voted on by the league coaches and announced at the conference’s annual media day at TD Garden on Sept. 29. The Eagles received three-of-12 first-place votes. This marks the first time in seven seasons and just the third in the last 16 years that Boston College has not been selected as the favorite or co-favorite to win the league title.

#TEAMDREWBROWN Hockey East is all about competition and brotherhood. Providence College’s Drew Brown will miss this season as he battles Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. For those that would like to help donate to Brown’s cause, the fundraising campaign is called “Dropping Mitts Against Cancer”. More information is located here: gofundme.com/93da50

Since Jerry York led his first Boston College team to the 1997 Frozen Four, the Eagles have amassed the most victories in college hockey. Boston College has amassed 467 victories and is only one of three programs to have recorded more than 400 victories during that span. Michigan (464) and North Dakota (458) trail by a slim margin.

.629

Upon completion of the 2013-14 season, Boston College reclaimed the best overall winning percentage in Hockey East history. Over the course of 30 seasons in league play, the Eagles’ winning percentage of .629 (449-25075) reigns supreme in one of college hockey’s top conferences.

Jerry York’s overall record is 976-585-104 in 42 seasons as a head coach at Clarkson, Bowling Green and Boston College; he owns the most victories of any Division I coach in the history of college hockey. York is 34-11 in NCAA Tournament games as the head coach at Boston College; his 39 wins overall in the NCAA Tournament is also the highest total in Division I history.
