WorthNoting BOSTON COLLEGE vs. NORTHEASTERN IN THE BEANPOT Boston College and Northeastern will skate in the late affair in the semifinal round of the 63rd installment of the annual Beanpot Tournament. This is the first time since 2012 the Eagles and Huskies have squared in the first round of the Beanpot as things ended favorably for BC. On Feb. 6, 2012, Boston College opened up a 5-1 advantage through two periods of play thanks to threepoint performances from Johnny Gaudreau (2-1-3) and Steven Whitney (2-1-3) and eventually skated off with a 7-1 triumph. Tuesday night marks the 22nd semifinal contest between Boston College and Northeastern as the Eagles have won eight of the last 10 of those encounters and possess a 17-4 mark, total, in semifinal bouts with NU. The last Huskies’ triumph against BC in the Beanpot took place on Feb. 2, 2009. In recent history, Boston College and Northeastern have squared off with the Beanpot right in front of their eyes. Three of the last four Beanpot title games have been between the Eagles and Huskies. BC has won all three (2011 – 7-6 (ot) | 2013 – 6-3 | 2014 – 4-1) and own a 4-1 record against NU, all-time, in the Beanpot finals. Northeastern’s first-ever Beanpot trophy came when Wayne Turner scored the overtime winner against the Eagles in 1980. BC and NU have also played in 17 consolation affairs and the Eagles have won 13 of those contests. Northeastern is BC’s most common opponent in the Beanpot and Tuesday’s encounter marks the 44th game between the two. BC is 34-9 against NU, alltime, in the Beanpot. Monday denotes Jerry York’s 11th Beanpot game against Northeastern. He currently possesses a 9-1 mark against the Huskies. Quinn Smith, Michael Matheson, Destry Straight and Austin Cangelosi have all recorded an assist against NU in the Beanpot. No current skater on BC’s roster has scored a goal against them. Thatcher Demko has surrendered only one goal against the Huskies and possesses a .967 (29-of-30) save percentage vs. NU in the Beanpot. BOSTON COLLEGE IN THE BEANPOT Boston College aims to pass its first-round test against Northeastern for a chance to match Beanpot history. The Eagles have won the last five Beanpot titles and are looking to match Boston University’s record of six-consecutive trophies (1995-2000) with a tournament victory in 2015. Five-straight Beanpots marks a school-record for the Eagles, but a sixth-consecutive would also make history for head coach Jerry York. York has won eight Beanpot titles (2001, 2004, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014) and is currently tied with legendary BC skipper John “Snooks” Kelley. A Beanpot win would give York his ninth and put him in second place, alone, in the pantheon of Beanpot coaches behind BU’s Jack Parker (21 Beanpot trophies). In all, Boston College has won the Beanpot 19 times with 15 runners-up showings, 22 third-place finishes and only six last-place finishes. The Eagles have never finished last under York. In all, York is 28-12 in the Beanpot. Boston College has won been awarded 17 MVP trophies and 12 Eberly awards, including last year’s winners, Kevin Hayes and Thatcher Demko, in that order. Since 1993, only BC and BU have skated away as the toast of Boston. In that 21 year run, BC has won nine trophies and BU has claimed 12 titles. HOUNDING THE HUSKIES Both teams skate in to Tuesday’s semifinal red-hot as Northeastern sports a 5-1-3 mark in January while the Eagles have assembled a 7-1-1 total in the same month. Boston College is riding a three-game winning streak heading into the tournament while Northeastern is riding a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1) for the second time in program history and first since the 1994-95 season. The Huskies did not partake in any action this past weekend but swept Notre Dame on Jan. 23-24, 3-2 and 4-2, respectively, at Matthews Arena. Prior to the two wins against the Irish, BU defeated and tied then-ranked No. 10 Vermont, 4-1 and 2-2, in that order, at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Junior Kevin Roy leads the charge for the Huskies once again and is tied for 26th in the country, fourth in Hockey East, with 26 points (11-15-26). Northeastern’s offense and defense are nearly identical as NU 39th in scoring defense (2.84 gpg), eighth Hockey East, and 40th in scoring offense (2.48). That mark ranks 10th in the conference. Goaltenders Clay Witt (6-6-2) and Derick Roy (4-5-2) have spilt time this year and own similar goals against average stats. Witt touts a 2.70 GAA with a .910 save percentage while Roy is 2.71 with the exact same save percentage. The Huskies have struggled on the penalty kill, ranking dead last in Hockey East and giving up a power play goal over 1-in-4 chances (74.1 percent). Only three teams ranks lower in that category in all of college hockey. Boston College came back to tie Northeastern at Matthews Arena on Jan. 9, 1-1, before claiming the season series, 4-2, on Jan. 10.

Eaglesin140 - Boston College seeks its sixth-straight Beanpot Tournament victory which would tie the Eagles’ with BU’s record (1995-2000) - Boston College has not lost a game when it has scored a power play goal and is 6-8-2 when held scoreless on the power play - Boston College possesses a 43-17-3 win-loss total in games that take place immediately before the Beanpot - Jerry York is now just 21 wins shy of reaching the 1,000-career victory benchmark for his career @BCHockeynews | #BCvsNU | #Beanpot | #WeAreBC

JUST ANOTHER MANIC TUESDAY Monday’s postponement of the 63rd anunal Beanpot semifinals marks the third time in the tournament’s history that has occurred. In the 1983 Tournament, the semifinal round was also pushed to Tuesday and was contested on Feb. 8, 1983, and BC ended up winning the ‘83 title. The Blizzard of 1978 also created a postponing, pushing the championship and consolation rounds of the 1978 Beanpot to Wednesday, March 1, 1978. CENTURIAN MEETS HIS MARK Junior Michael Matheson played in his 100th-career game as an Eagle on Jan. 30 and doled out his 50th-career assist in that contest. The Pointe-Claire, Quebec, native leads the Eagles in career points with 63 (13-50-63). PARSING THE PAIRWISE Heading into the Beanpot, BC has jumped up to 12th in the Pairwise rankings with an RPI of .5565. The Eagles made a big move amongst Hockey East teams in the Pairwise and are now the third-highest ranked club behind Boston University (3rd) and Providence (11th). BEFORE THE BEAN Boston College is now 43-17-3 in games immediately before the Beanpot Tournament. RAUCOUS ROOKIES Boston College’s freshmen class of Alex Tuch, Zach Sanford and Noah Hanifin have enjoyed scoring all at once together. O both Jan. 16 agaist Boston University and Jan. 30 against Providence, the three rookies have all scored in the same game. HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT In the midst of BC’s hot streak, the Eagles have outshot their last five opponents by a sum total of 182-132 as the Eagles have won four of those five games. Shots on goal has had a significant impact on the Eagles’ results this season. When BC limits its opponents to 2029 shots, the Eagles are 11-4. When allowing 30 or more, Boston College is 4-4-2. When BC takes 30 or more shots, Boston College is 10-3-1. POWER PLAY PICKING UP STEAM Since the Eagles 9-1-1 run commencing on Dec. 6, the power play has picked up. Boston College’s overall numbers stand at 112.7 percent (14-for-110), but over the course of the last 11 games, the Eagles have up their percentage to 17.0 percent (8-for-47). HOCKEY EAST IS HEATING UP Like every time this season, the race of the Hockey East championship is a bottleneck. Heading into the weekend, Boston College is tied with UMass Lowell for second place in the league with 20 points. The Eagles trail league-leading Boston University by four points. BC is one of three teams (UMass and UMass Lowell) to have played a league-high 16 games thus far, so several teams have a game in hand over the Eagles. As if stands, the Eagles would have a first-round bye and have home ice for the quarterfinal series. DEFENSIVE DANDIES Boston College is 9-1-2 in its last 12 outings. The only time the Eagles have given up two goals or more was the 4-2 loss at Maine on Jan. 18. Every other outings, BC has limited its opponent to two goals or fewer.

WERESTILLNOTING BEAK STREAK After a bit of an uneasy start (4-5-0), BC had rattled off the nation’s longest unbeaten streak that spanned from Dec. 5, 2014, to Jan. 16, 2015. Over the course of that time, the Eagles recorded a 6-0-2 mark in their unbeaten string of eight games. The Eagles’ unbeaten string started on Dec. 5 with a 2-2 draw at UNH and concluded after losing at Maine on Jan. 18. POWER PLAY IS PARAMOUNT Scoring on the power play has proved to be key to the Eagles’ success in the early goings of the 2014-15 schedule. Boston College is an unblemished 10-0-0 when scoring at least one power play goal. When denied a power play goal, the Eagles are 5-8-2. A GRAND OL’ TIME Jerry York’s countdown to 1,000-career victories is officially on. York reached his 979thcareer triumph against Providence on Jan. 30 and now has 21 wins left to reach 1,000. TAG, YOU’RE IT When Boston College scores first, the Eagles have mounted a 11-2-1 record. GILMOUR ARENA Adam Gilmour’s two-career goals at Northeastern’s Matthews Arena have proved to be timely. The Hanover, Mass., native’s first goal at Matthews Arena took place in the form of the overtime winner on Nov. 2, 2013. In his trip to Huntington Ave. on Jan. 9, 2015, Gilmour scored the game-tying goal with 2:15 remaining in regulation to force a draw. AMERICAN EAGLES Thatcher Demko, Noah Hanifin, Ian McCoshen, Alex Tuch and Miles Wood (incoming in ‘15’16) represent Boston College as five of 23 skaters for the 2015 U.S. National Junior Team roster as announced by USA Hockey on the night of Dec. 25. Team USA was dealt an early exit following a loss to Russia in the quarterfinals, but Tuch accounted for a goal and an assist while Hanifin logged a pair of assists over the course of the 2015 World Junior Tournament. BC: THE NHL’s FIRST CHOICE Not only did Boston College lead all of college hockey in 2013-14 by dispersing 26 Eagles across the National Hockey League, BC has placed 18 skaters on opening night rosters for the 2014-15 NHL season. That mark is tops in Hockey East. In regards to college hockey, seven first-round picks are among the nearly 200 NHL draft picks on college rosters, including at least one on 40 teams. Boston College is the only team in the country with two first-round draft picks, including junior captain Michael Matheson (Florida – 23rd) and Alex Tuch (Minnesota – 18th). HOCKEY HALL CALL Farkas earned All-America accolades, was a Hobey Baker finalist and ranks sixth all-time in scoring (190).
