TRANSFORMING BCIT
In this annual report, we are proud to share that the foundational vision of the BCIT INSPIRE Campaign has become a reality thanks to the inspiring support of our generous corporate, individual, and alumni donors, who have helped us raise more than $107 million. With these contributions towards our three key pillars—campus redevelopment, access and inclusion, and teaching and learning innovation— BCIT Foundation is contributing to the transformation of the future for students, industry, and the province.
Campus redevelopment at the Burnaby campus is well underway. In spring 2023, we unveiled the new Beedie Plaza, a gateway to the BCIT Burnaby Campus featuring expansive outdoor spaces where students, staff, faculty, and visitors can connect and re-energize. Since opening in fall 2022, the new $78.3 million Health Sciences Centre has been training the next generation of healthcare leaders.
This year, BCIT was pleased to announce exciting upcoming campus redevelopment projects that will be part of the new $162.6 million Trades and Technology Complex: the Concert Properties Centre for Trades and Technology, which will anchor the multi-building Complex, and the Robert Bosa Carpentry Pavilion.
As one of our pillars, enhancing student inclusion and access to a BCIT education has been a key focus. In 2022/23, BCIT students received more than 1,800 scholarships and awards totalling over $2.7 million. During the holiday season, BCIT Foundation also launched a campaign that raised more than $61,000 to help students in need.
Teaching and learning innovation, our third pillar, is a core priority. This winter, we celebrated the opening of the Teck Copper Innovation Hub, which is located inside the BCIT Centre for Applied Research and Innovation. The Hub enables BCIT researchers and students to explore the use of copper in a variety of healthcare devices, including prosthetics and orthotics.
With donor support and investment from the provincial and federal governments, approximately $750 million in renewal at the BCIT Burnaby campus has been enabled. All that we have accomplished this past year was possible because of you, our donors. On behalf of our students, staff, and faculty, we thank you for your generosity and commitment to BCIT.
We want to especially thank BCIT Interim President Paul McCullough for his outstanding leadership during this exciting era of transformation and warmly welcome Dr. Jeff Zabudsky, who will be joining the Institute as our new President in July 2023. He joins BCIT at a pivotal time in the Institute’s growth as we play an increasingly critical role in solving BC’s workforce challenges.
We look forward to continuing to transform the future at BCIT with you.
