BCIT Student Association Council Meeting Minutes March 1, 2004 Present: Executives:

13.1. Meeting Called to Order The meeting was called to order by the Chairperson, Samantha Yeung, at 5:55. (20 voting members) 13.2. Acceptance of the Agenda It was moved by Deep Thind and seconded by Elfina Luk that the agenda of March 1, 2004 be accepted as presented. Carried 20/0/0 13.3. Acceptance of the Minutes It was moved by Erin Smith and seconded by Elfina Luk that the minutes of February 16, 2003 be accepted as distributed. Carried 17/0/3 13.4. Guest Speakers No guest speakers 1


13.5. Reports Executive & Director Samantha Yeung, President • Received external funding for sanctioned clubs attending conferences. • Presented a session at the last BCIT Professional Day. Erin Smith, VP Finances & Administration • Handling day to day operations. • Has been leading the petition in support of the Childcare Centre. All petitions should be received as soon as possible. George Nicolaou, VP Student Affairs • Introduce the new International Councilor. George is presently working with the International councilor and students to identify specific needs. Elfina Luk, VP Campus Life • Still working on the climbing wall and still missing volunteers for the Open House. • Reminder that the tax returns service will be offered in the Great Hall from March 22 to April 2. If the service is a success, it will be extended. Michael Klein, Electrical / Electronics & CST Chair • Set photos will take place the week after Spring Break. Photos will be available during election free of charge when voting. More information will be available shortly. Anthony Vanderhoek, Chair of Trades • Problems with food quality where trades students attend classes. Working on acquiring new microwaves. Deep Thind, Man., Mech., & Process Energy & Natural Res. Chair • Nothing to report Angelia Harris Gray, Business/ Health Chair • Election is underway. The first promotion is going out in the March 3 Link edition. Caroline Gagnon, Director • Working on the daycare proposal for the BCIT BOG meeting on March 30th. • Working on various projects: budget projections; 2004/05 budgets; ATM; logo; staff coaching. 13.6. Progress Report • No progress. 13.7. Question Period • Councilors inquire about the location where new microwaves might be installed. Anthony is looking at SE1 and NE1. It is stated that there is a 2


desperate need for microwaves in the SE 12 area. Sam will look into it and will get back to Council. George asks the amount that sanctioned clubs will receive for their conference. Sam will inform the executives after the meeting.

Unfinished Business

No unfinished business 13.9. New Business 13.9.1 Logo for the SA – Erin Erin informs Council about what the Business Committee has been working on with regard to the new logo. Three potential logos have been selected. They will be advertised in the next 2 issue of the Link. A contest has been organized to increase the general interest of the students. The results will be presented to Council on March 30. Once council votes the new logo, the Business Committee will come up with the new corporate image package. 13.9.2 4X4 Whistler Pass – Elfina Elfina explains that Greyhound has approached the BCITSA for their support in making BCIT an official stop for their skiing program. There would be no commitment from BCITSA. After further discussion, it is decided that a letter will be drafted by Elfina stating the BCITSA support for such service. 13.9.3 Movie Passes - Elfina Elfina has received numerous movie passes for the March 11 screening of the “The girl next door” movie. If anyone is interested please contact Elfina directly. 13.10 Further Business Angela informs Council about the Teacher Excellence Award. Deep informs that the award extends to staff and other categories. 13.11. Next Meeting The meeting is scheduled for March 29, 2004 at 5:45 pm. 13.13. Meeting adjourned It was moved by Deep Thind and seconded by Angela Harris Gray that the meeting be adjourned. (6:20 pm). Carried
