9.4. Guest Speakers – John Wong Mr. John Wong presents to Council the BCIT Burnaby Master Plan. The Master Plan has been developed to address the growth and program changes. This Master Plan will provide BCIT with a long-term reference framework for building planning for the next 20 years. The Master Plan only touches on educational requirements and not student services. After the presentation, students had numerous questions ranging from the $430 million funding needed, to the sustainability and buildings, and student services (Translink loop, study place). Mr. Wong stated that external and government funding are being looked at, while the plan will consider sustainable buildings. As for student services, this plan has not included them at this stage. Mr. Wong explains that this presentation is only one of the many forums used to gather information from stakeholders, including students. Once feedback is gathered, amendment will be presented to the BOG in the Spring. 9.5

Very successful!! Had a detailed discussion on issues we like/dislike on campus. Like: Zoom media advertisements, Media Works (basement of library), Rec services rentals. Dislike: don’t save $ on monthly passes, hockey food specials in the pub, sports field & track in poor condition, no sanitary napkins in ladies washrooms, ppl smoking in non smoking areas, keyboards (esp. the space bar) in the library are horrible! Organized and supervised the obstacle course which included wearing beer goggles: balancing a ping pong ball on a spoon, putting a condom on a banana, and riding a tricycle around. Provide information on how to quite, risks and consequences. Advertise poster contest. Deadline January 31st

Have been setting up meetings to meet with all of the club presidents to talk about how the clubs are running so far. Reviewing other schools’ policies surrounding clubs. By the time you are reading this Alcohol Awareness Week will be officially over. Thanks to everyone for their support in this event. I will be writing up a report on the event and what could have been done differently for next year. I have spent most of my time in the last couple of weeks working on this event. Ongoing, have been in frequent contact and in meetings with various student groups.
