VOLUNTEER “EVACUEES” NEEDED FOR DISASTER DAY 2012! On June 13, 2012, BCIT will be practicing its disaster response and preparedness by conducting a training exercise. The institute will be responding to a major earthquake as if it were really happening on the Burnaby Campus. The exercise will include the involvement of BCIT’s Emergency Operations Centre, Incident Command, Depot Emergency Response Teams, Emergency Shelter & Accommodation Team, Amateur Radio Team and First Aiders. External agencies such as the Burnaby Fire Department, St. John Ambulance, external evaluators, observers and volunteers are also involved. Evacuees may need shelter or overnight accommodation at BCIT if transportation routes are blocked and students, staff or visitors at the Institution can’t get back to their classrooms, work or even home. At the exercise on June 13th, the Emergency Shelter and Accommodation Team (ESA) will practice utilizing the skills they have learned by setting up one of BCIT’s emergency shelter and accommodation facilities at the Burnaby Campus. They will be practicing:  The setting up of a secure and safe facility both as an emergency shelter and as a group lodging;  The process of registration for different kinds of members of our community such as students, faculty/staff and visitors.

If you would like to volunteer during the Disaster Exercise, we need people to act as evacuees Please turn up at the SE16 Gym between 9.00 am and 11.00 am (goodies provided once you have been registered). All budding actors welcome! Be prepared NOT scared!
