YOUR FIRST STEP TOWARDS BECOMING A #FUTUREBOSS
Finding the ideal Employer is the first step towards becoming a #FutureBoss.
Your Employer should:
• Be in a sector or industry that excites you
• Have a great reputation and the equipment or facilities to help you secure your success
• Be able to offer you great opportunities for career progression
• Be a size you are comfortable with. Some Apprentices prefer an Employer with a large workforce and others a smaller, family firm
• Be easily accessible, it’s important you can get there on time by whatever means you choose.
Your 5 steps to success
TO FIND THE IDEAL EMPLOYER
Do your research. Search online to find Employers that match your requirements, you can take a look at our Live Vacancies on our website: www.burnley. ac.uk/Themis-Apprenticeships. You can also ask family and friends to recommend potential Employers they know.
Make an impression.
Contact a prospective Employer and ask for work experience. It’s a great way to introduce yourself and show your enthusiasm and commitment.
Network.
Visit Careers Events, such as our Themis Apprenticeship Careers Event, to meet potential Employers; get to know more about them and the opportunities available –remember to take your CV.
Send off a CV and inquire about Apprenticeships opportunities. Ensure your CV reflects all your knowledge, skills and experience.
Contact the Themis team. Our expert advisors have a wealth of recruitment knowledge and experience to help you find the ideal Employer and ensure you have the interview and presentation skills alongside an impressive CV.
Important Information
We will support you every step of the way to achieve the best grades possible and progress on your chosen route after an apprenticeship, whether that’s a place at a top University, a Higher or Degree Apprenticeship or into a successful, rewarding career.
We will give you the skills and experiences, the opportunities and individual support to achieve your goals and, in return, expect you to be ready to learn, to give 100% to your studies and embrace the challenges of post-GCSE study.
Your Timetable
As a Themis Apprentice we will provide you with the very best training. Depending on your subject area you could study one day a week or have ‘block release’ from your Employer where you study for several weeks in College then return to the workplace.
Your college day will typically run from 9am to 4.15pm with a shorter day on Friday, however, this could differ, depending on your chosen industry. Typically you will work between 30 and 40 hours a week. The sector you are entering will determine when you start and finish work. Be prepared for early starts, unsociable hours or a regular 9-5!
• During your time in College you will be able to:
• Gain support from specialist staff
• Take part in additional study sessions
• Use the College study and recreational facilities.
Assessment and Target Setting
You will have your own Trainer Assessor (TA) who will meet you regularly to review your progress, set targets and support you. Your TA will form a link between you, College and your Employer and will visit you regularly in your workplace.
Depending on the level of your Apprenticeship you will be assessed through a range of methods including assignments, projects, presentations and external tests.
Entry requirements
You should already be aware of the entry requirements for your programme. However, if not, the individual requirements for your chosen subjects are all available on Themis’ website.
Please refer to www.burnley.ac.uk/themis
Additional costs
There are no course fees for an apprenticeship, however you may be expected to contribute towards course-related visits, additional qualifications or textbooks. You may be expected to purchase your own Personal Protective Equipment although many companies provide this for their Apprentices.
What to bring to your studies:
You will be expected to bring a notebook and pen to every lesson. Some subjects require more specialist equipment, such as steel toe capped boots and other PPE, however, you will be notified individually if this is the case. You will be given a unique Learner ID number which will form part of your student email address - this will enable you to communicate with your Tutors and access the Themis at Burnley College OnePlace for relevant learning tools. You will also have a personal One File account where you will log your learning and achievements through your Apprenticeship, which is shared with your Employer and your Trainer-Assessor.
