Important Information

We will give you the skills, the enrichment experiences, the opportunities and the individualised support to achieve your goals. In return, we expect you to be ready to learn, to give 100% to your studies and to embrace the challenges of post-GCSE study.

Whether it’s a place at a top University, a Higher or Degree Apprenticeship or a successful, rewarding career, wherever your ambitions are leading you, we will support you every step of the way as you achieve the best grades possible and progress on your perfect post-A Level pathway.

Your Timetable

Classes are between one and three hours long and normally run between 9am and 5pm. It’s essential you also use time between classes as study periods. There are multiple ways you can use this time productively.

You will be able to:

• Use the Active Learning Zone (ALZ)

• Gain support from specialist staff

• Take part in additional study sessions or enrichment activities

• If required, improve your Mathematics and English GCSE results

Assessment and Target Setting

It’s vital to ensure you stay on top of your studies and are achieving at the levels required throughout the year so you don’t fall behind. You will have a personal tutor who will meet you regularly to review your progress, set targets and support you. You will be assessed through a range of methods including assignments, projects, presentations and external tests.

Entry Requirements

The individual requirements for your chosen subjects are available on Burnley College’s website. Please refer to www.burnley.ac.uk

Additional Costs

There are no course fees for A Levels, however you may be expected to contribute towards course-related visits, additional qualifications or textbooks. Some Advanced Level courses will include an overseas residential which will require a contribution.

What to bring to your Studies

You will be expected to bring a notebook and pen to every lesson. Some subjects do require more specialist equipment, such as steel toe capped boots and other forms of PPE, however, you will be notified individually if this is the case. You will be given a unique Student ID number which will form part of your student email address. This will enable you to communicate with your Tutors and access the Student OnePlace for all relevant learning tools.

The team behind your success

The School Liaison Team can offer you the advice and guidance you need whether you’re considering A Levels or Vocational study after your GCSE’s; have plans to go to University or into a successful career.

They have the expertise and experience to support you as you make crucial decisions on your future and are always available to talk through your options, give information and advice and introduce you to College life.

You may still have questions as you approach the end of your time at school.
