Funding an Apprenticeship
Apprenticeship service account
Before you recruit an apprentice, all employers must have a PAYE scheme set up and must register to use the GOV.UK Apprenticeship Service.
Ask us for our step-by-step guide to setting up your account.
Apprenticeship Levy
The Apprenticeship Levy Is a Government initiative to fund Apprenticeships if your company has an annual wage bill in excess £3 million a year, you will pay 0.5% of that wage bill into a closed account only allowed to be spent on training.
For those that don’t use the Apprenticeship Levy
• Apprentices aged 21 and under are fully funded as long as the employer is not a levy paying company - employer just pays the wages.
• Non-levy employers with Apprentices aged 22 and above pay 5% co-investment and wages.
How is the Apprenticeship Levy paid?
Funds are taken within the month, and all payments made one month in arrears. Employers also receive a 10% top-up to monthly funds entering their account. If you do not use your Levy money, funds expire after 24 months. Your Levy fund will not roll into the next financial year and will be lost.
If you have used all your Levy Fund
Even If you have used all your Levy Fund, you can still recruit an Apprentice. However, you will pay 5% of the total cost of any additional Apprenticeships. Levy companies can pledge to transfer the money if they don’t use itSMEs can apply for this transfer.
What can you expect from Themis as a Training Provider
From your initial contact, we pledge to work tirelessly to ensure you recruit the ideal Themis Apprentice to take your business forward.
We will establish the skills and attributes you are looking for in your Themis Apprentice before advertising your vacancy on our website and the National Apprenticeship Service website. Our team will actively seek out learners who are a potential match for your company and put them through a rigorous screening process which includes individual support to improve their skills, CV and understanding of Apprenticeship expectations.
Once we believe we have found the right candidate, we will contact you and put them forward for interview.
Themis assigns each Apprentice with a Trainer Assessor who is an expert in their chosen field to support both Apprentice and employer throughout the Apprenticeship period. Trainer Assessors conduct reflective sessions to establish what Apprentices have learned in the workplace, monitor their progression and prepare them for their End Point Assessment.
End Point Assessment
The End Point Assessment differs for all Apprentices. For example, those who work within a practical, hands-on field will be assessed on the technical skills and knowledge obtained during their Apprenticeship. Some employers are expected to undertake observations by the External Verifiers and can be involved in the End Point Assessment.
Speak to our experienced Trainer Assessors for more details about the End Point Assessments.
