A Great Place to Study Business Benedictine College is a great place to start your business career. In fact, we can even help you start your own business before you graduate. Our Cray Center for Entrepreneurship has helped students start a miniature golf park, a dance school and a campus coffee shop. Students manage these businesses under the direction of the Cray Center. You’ll enjoy small classes in the School of Business where you can personally learn from our highly qualified professors. You’ll also learn from professors who are internationally recognized in corporate social responsibility and ethics. That’s because we want all of our graduates to live the Benedictine values such as excellence through virtue. You can even start your MBA while you’re finishing your bachelor’s degree. Starting during your final year as an undergraduate business student allows you to earn your MBA more quickly. Outside of class, you can get involved in organizations such as Students in Free Enterprise and the Thomas M. Hoenig Student International Business Council. With these organizations, you can compete each year against teams from other universities. You’ll have a great time and improve your business skills before you even graduate.

Our education department was recognized as exemplary by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.

The biology department was named one of the best science education programs in the United States in 2001. The Heuer Award recognizes undergraduate science departments for their commitment to research by undergraduate students.

More than 70% of our biology majors continue in postgraduate and professional schools. This is significantly above the national average.

A Place of Discovery At Benedictine, you’ll enjoy small classes and personal help from professors. You will not be a number or just a face in a classroom here. Our professors personally care about their students and learn their students’ names. Our Discovery Program even lets undergraduate (and graduate) students do research with professors. Students present their projects on Discovery Day in the spring. In the Discovery Program, you might perform scientific research, compose a new symphony, write science fiction or analyze the performance of a Fortune 500 company. The possibilities are endless.

See for yourself why our reputation is growing: •

We were proud to be named one of “America’s Best Colleges” again in 2010 by U.S. News & World Report.

Record-breaking numbers of students have enrolled in Benedictine College. For two years in a row, we’ve had the largest number of students in the college’s 150-year-history.

This year is our largest enrollment in Benedictine College’s history.

We were rated one of the top 20 Catholic colleges in the United States by the Cardinal Newman Society.

“Faculty and staff take students seriously. You can get better attention here than other schools. it has a very good environment for students to concentrate on their studies.” -Tian Luo, China, MBA student

Our Identity

10

Benedictine College is founded on the principles of the 1,500-year-old Benedictine Catholic tradition. Some of our values include excellence through virtue, hospitality, community, listening, and the value of prayer and work. We are a Benedictine, Catholic, liberal arts and residential college. Most of Benedictine’s students are Catholic. Students of all faiths are welcomed into this spiritual environment. The college’s emphasis on spirituality allows students to discover their faith and how to apply good morals in careers, families and friendships.

Benedictine students love to volunteer. •

Last year nearly 400 students gave up a meal each week to donate to the poor.

The student group Hunger Coalition makes thousands of meals each year and delivers them to the poor in the town of Atchison.

The college ministry office sponsors volunteer activities such as visits to the elderly and to imprisoned youth.

Did you know?

Benedictine College is the only Catholic college in the United States offering a youth ministry major.

Enjoy our riverside park and Victorian architecture. Yet we’re less than one hour from the shopping and amusement parks of Kansas City. And we’re only 45 minutes from the Kansas City International Airport.

What are the professors like at Benedictine college? “besides being great teachers, they are great people. they really help you not only with classes but with advice for you. Since classes are not very big, you really get to know them, and they get to know you.” -Pablo Montesi, Chile, mass communications major
