With a lack of governmental trust amongst society, modern Britain faces more than an economic decline that follows the political uncertainty of recent years has stuck and left a dull and dreary society. With a lack of trust in government and political figures, society comes to a standstill. The thing that unites us all is the passion for our home turf and the patriarchy we feel in the ways we vote. As generation divides have been at the forefront of society, BRED explores the mutual one mutual agreement amongst us all: the adoration of where we’re from. Bred represents a sense of belonging in modern society. As communities and generations unite, who we are and where we come from becomes a common ground for pride in an era of social destruction. The geographical North/South has become something to glorify as our countries capital becomes over-saturated and overpopulated. Influenced by the North: Fashioning Identities exhibition, BRED represents the lost love for home towns and heritage underneath the surface of a divided, mundane society.

Danny represents the typical teenage boy in the UK. Influenced by the 1980’s youth culture, danny is a diverse, trendled, graphic, commercialised publication. The technology and fashion might have changed SINCE THE 80’S, but playing football, heading to the pub for a few pints (whether legal or not) and hanging with mates are still everything these teens are about. Now they might care whether they’re wearing Supreme or Palace, but boys will always be boys.

There is a bit of danny in every young lad out there. Whether they are interested in football or have no idea who Frank Lampard is, whether they are eagerly awaiting the new Palace drop or are happy ordering their clothes on ASOS, whether they cannot go a day without playing on their xbox or prefer more artistic hobbies, they are danny. dannymag.co.uk @danny_magazine

To me, fashion goes far beyond the physical garments; fashion gives the opportunity for self-crafted identity, social understanding and shared appreciation. Fashion has the ability to make a statement and drive social change. To me, for these reasons, fashion is an art, and I wanted to show this in my final major project. I developed a vision of a concept store; this fashion platform challenges retail in it’s traditional form, combining fashion with lifestyle and an art space. Titled ‘Wall-to-Wall’, (a symbolic interpretation of its literal definition, when a carpet covers an entire space) the store aimed to be comprehensive, providing a cultural and emotionally intelligent experience in which the consumer can feel closer to the art through purchasing fashion that has been thoughtfully designed, along with corresponding lifestyle and home objects. A ‘world’ is created for the consumer to be a part of.

pathway:
Fashion and costume overlap in design for contemporary performance or events, providing an opportunity for students to work in the areas of TV, film, theatre and music, creating bespoke garments for a wide range of both historical and contemporary performances. The pathway touches on character creation and is also ideally suited for students who want to create bespoke gowns for individual clients. Final year students work on live external projects.

Symbiosis - Concept Motivated by the human condition and the digital world the client introduced a starting concept of Nature vs Technology. Exploring this initial theme developed an interest in the construction and makeup of these two opposing entities. Investigating nature on a molecular level provides powerful imagery, inspiring bright colours, smooth surfaces and organic structures. This aesthetically contrasts the visual research into modern technology which coerces thoughts of glossy surfaces, LED lighting, sleek seam lines and digital inspired prints. The divergent subject matters harmonise through a cohesive colour palette and reoccurring themes. However the juxtaposition of the technological with the organic allows for the creation of an interesting and unique aesthetic. Overall, the concept aims to Investigate the contrast between the natural world and high-tech development, relaying back to how both topics coincide with the human condition. The concept portrays how technology is increasingly consuming our lives, intertwining with our natural state and in turn appropriating aspects of our humanity.
