Between 1942 and 1945, a Jesuit priest named John Patrick Foley (1904-1996) kept a diary of his experiences as a Navy chaplain in the North Africa and Pacific theaters of war. Transcribed by Fr. Foley’s secretaries after he returned to his administrative post at Boston College, the diary manuscript was in an archive at Holy Cross College when Joseph P. Duffy, SJ, came upon it and determined to see it published.
