LIFESTYLE SPOTLIGHT
EQUESTRIAN & SPORTING CLAYS IN THE LOWCOUNTRY Anyone familiar with our area knows that a world-class golf experience is easy to find. But folks may not realize that well before South Carolina became a colony in 1633, the Lowcountry possessed a rich equestrian history that continues today. Also, the favorable year-round climate is ideal for sporting clay enthusiasts. Love of these sports has endured through generations of South Carolinians (native and newcomer alike), and the lifestyle is more popular than ever. We are blessed with many options to immerse oneself with family and friends in these favorite Lowcountry hobbies.
EQUESTRIAN Our area enjoys several of the best equestrian facilities in the country that offer amenities which include full care boarding, FEI-regulation dressage areas, horse training, and riding schools for all levels. We also have beautiful trail experiences that allow riders to meander through ancient Live Oak forests or along pristine sandy beaches! And regular polo events with beautifully designed tailgate parties are a wonderful way to enjoy friends and family.
SPORTING CLAYS “Golf with a shotgun” is a common description of sporting clays—a form of clay pigeon targetshooting. This sport is one of the closest experiences to actual field shooting thanks to the variety of targets simulating realistic hunting conditions - it is fun for all ages and experience levels! Many local communities have now integrated shooting courses into beautiful maritime forests and other untouched Lowcountry landscapes.

LIFELONG LOVE OF HORSES Some of you may know that in my youth, I grew up on a Quarter Horse farm along the banks of the Delaware River. Later I started riding and showing Appaloosas competitively at a national level. For years I competed around the country, winning six national and three world championships in English and Western events. I relocated to this beautiful area after the Northeast got too cold for me (I’m quite satisfied seeing snow and ice only on TV now). But my love of horses continued through years of involvement with Heroes on Horseback – a nonprofit organization working with special needs individuals and disabled vets. It is a wonderful program for anyone with a love of horses and a passion for helping others.

2019 was another healthy year for local real estate. As of the writing of this newsletter (mid-Dec), the local MLS market is up approximately 8% in volume compared to year end 2018. Thanks to many of you entrusting your real estate needs and referrals to my teammates and me, 2019 was the Lowcountry Specialists most productive year yet! In fact, the three homes above are a handful in which we not only represented the Seller, but through our marketing and networking we also found the Buyer. So THANK YOU! As for 2020, election years are always interesting regardless of the candidates. Nonetheless, signs point to this being another healthy year for local real estate thanks to low interest rates, good inventory, and being a highly sought-after destination.
I APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DISCUSS ANY REAL ESTATE NEEDS YOU, YOUR FAMILY OR FRIENDS MIGHT HAVE!
