“When we drove through the gates every single thing about Oldfield called to us.” Wendy J., Member

An Audubon International Certified Sustainable Community

Audubon International is a non-profit environmental organization with a mission to partner with golf courses and communities to reduce their impact on nature through education, technical assistance, certification, and recognition.

Oldfield has been involved with Audubon International for over 10 years, first as a Certified Golf Course Sanctuary and then as one of the first neighborhoods to be a part of their Green Communities program. In 2015 Oldfield earned the title as a Neighborhood for Nature and with that momentum the natural progression was to move towards a Sustainable Community certification. This goal was achieved in 2018 making Oldfield the 8th community in the US to hold this prestigious title. The certification process involves 3 stages of assessment, planning and implementing goals through action plans. Oldfield worked closely with the Audubon during the process to create a plan tailored specifically to our needs, priorities, resources and challenges. With community involvement and support we now have a plan containing sustainable goals for implementing now and into the future. These plans include recycling across the community, pond management, lawn care, pest management, energy conservation and health and wellness and so much more. Recommended green products and lists of services such as soil test kits are available on the website or by contacting the staff naturalist, Jill Kombrink at the Outfitters Center. photos courtesy: Ed Kelly
