Purpose-built student accommodation has a crucial role to play in enhancing the university experience. The design must attract today’s discerning students whilst having longevity to appeal to future residents.
Our Approach
In the past ten years, we have delivered over 10,000 student bedrooms for university and private investor clients. We understand that student accommodation must be practical and efficient, but also comfortable and stylish where students can relax and recharge.
We aim to create a sense of community by designing common spaces that encourage social interaction and collaborative studying. Every building is designed to create a sustainable, safe and healthy living environment for students.

Situated in the newly regenerated area of east London, Angel Lane is within walking distance of one of Europe’s largest shopping centres, Westfield Stratford. Housing 760 students in cluster flats, the city block form of the building is open to the south enclosing a central green heart space.

The project consists of 951 study bedrooms designed for a wide range of university students, from fresher to postgraduate. It is BDP’s tallest housing building at 28 storeys and was the first building to be completed on the Olympic Park post games. The tower is set around an internal courtyard, orientated to capture the best sunpath.

Design for a new Student Village for King’s College London – a cluster of buildings set in the historic Yards and Lanes in the ‘Backlands’ behind Borough High Street. Two new outdoor spaces create a new green City Garden and a hard landscaped flexible even space respectively.
The mixed-use development will provide high quality residential accommodation for 371 students within a new vibrant community that is critical to student wellbeing and satisfaction. Subject to planning consent.

BDP’s engineers designed the new student residences and conference suite at the heart of the University’s Digby Stuart Campus. Built on a former car park, the scheme comprises 351 single bedrooms and 30 double bedrooms, as well as seminar rooms and a flexible hospitality suite.

The brownfield development of the former gasworks is comprised of 345 ensuite study bedrooms arranged across two urban blocks connected by a vibrant and active street at ground level. The high quality design, pastoral and colligate support will provide peace of mind for students (and parents) going through the transition from second to third level education to improve retention rates in first year. A managed area on the ground floor will be provided for start-up space to assist, foster and empower entrepreneurs within the community.
In addition to the modern en suite bedrooms and shared living areas, amenities such as a fitness studio, informal study areas and contemporary common areas will be provided to enhance the student experience. Secure bicycle parking will be provided for 175 bicycles. Garden terraces are provided at first floor and on the roof and high quality landscaping and planting will provide an attractive destination for students. As a sister development to the office community in Bonham Quay and part of the next generation of development this project can be a catalyst for additional development in the Inner Harbour and Ceannt Station area.

The prestigious new student village and sports facility at the University of the West of England’s Frenchay Campus, Bristol was completed and handed over in September 2006. The student village provides high quality accommodation for nearly 2000 students putting them within walking distance of lectures, the library, computer rooms and the students union. Within the student village there is also a brand-new sports facility incorporating courts for a wide range of sports and activities.

Masterplan for a state-of the-art village to accommodate 3,200 students for the University of Manchester. Replacing outdated facilities, the accommodation is designed as clusters of town houses and apartments around a village green with a new student services centre, shops and a doctor’s surgery.
