Without plans with Fiat 500 for the northernmost point of Europe. What happens when you buy basic camping equipment, take a typical camping car, a Fiat 500, and without any plans goes to the northernmost point of Europe, the Norwegian Nordkapp? What does the Midnight sun look like? What can you meet and see in the north of Norway? The journey took me through Sweden and part of Finland to the north of Norway, where the northernmost point of Europe lies. This is considered to be cape Nordkapp (North Cape) (71°10′21“ N, 25°47′4“ E) located about 2 100 km from the North Pole. The area owes its name to Captain Richard Chancellor of 1553, who sailed around the cape in search of the northern sea route to China.

However, the place where the monument and the tourist center is located is not the northernmost point of Europe, next to the Knivskjellodden tip is a few meters further north, but it is not as high and attractive as Nordkapp. Since both tips lie on an island (Magerøya), to which leads almost a seven-kilometer tunnel under the sea, it is impossible to talk about the northernmost tip of mainland Europe. It is Cape Kinnarodden on the Nordkinn peninsula about 20 km f rom the village of Mehamn in Finnmark County. However, the accessibility of this cape is very poor – from the nearest road it is a two-day walk through difficult terrain. Kinnarodden is about 2 106.6 km f rom the North Pole, Nordkapp about 6 km less.

This is the westernmost island in Cape Verde, one of the lesser known. In the travel agency catalogs you will definitely come across more popular islands like Sal or Boa Vista, which are popular for their sandy beaches and many resorts. Santo Antão, on the other hand, is a mountainous island with very diverse weather. In the south, dry land dominates the area. However, the following pages contain photos from the more interesting northern part of ostrava. The rugish valleys are full of greenery, fertile fields on which locals grow great guavo, bananas, papaya. The island can only be reached by boat from the adjacent island of Sao Vicente, as the local airport has been closed due to dangerous gusty winds from the ocean. I recommend Santo Antão to anyone who is looking for an adventurous tropical holiday that does not require travel to the other end of the world.

A faithful companion on the road, where I shoot most often, is the Fujifilm X-T1 mirrorless camera. I am a biologist by profession and although I am now working on epilepsy research, i.e. in a laboratory, I have retained the love for nature that has accompanied me since childhood. That‘s why I prefer to photograph the landscape and everything alive that can be found in it, but I also enjoy collecting snapshots on trips. The selection of photos are from a botanical-zoological excursion to Turkey from 2015, when my colleagues from the faculty and I traveled through western Turkey in one month. On the way, we visited famous tourist areas, but we preferred to head to secluded places that helped us to get to know the true face of Turkey – wild, simple and harsh, but also very colorful and hospitable.
