VU ENGLISH COURSES VU English is the perfect place to study English. Our programs: • provide direct entry into a wide range of diploma and degree courses • improve language and academic skills and enhance understanding of Australian culture • are taught by highly qualified and experienced teachers • are held in outstanding open access facilities including a state of the art Self-Access Centre and Multimedia Centre • provide access to computer rooms, a library, student lounge, and student information centre • are located at VU’s City Flinders Campus in Melbourne’s CBD – easy to get to using public transport from anywhere in Melbourne.
GENERAL ENGLISH (GE) The General English (GE) stream is offered at Lower Inte mediate levels. It aims to: • develop confidence in using English for general purposes • develop English proficiency so students can focus on English for Academic Purposes once they have attained the intermediate level of English. ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES (EAP) English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is designed to prepare students for TAFE, undergraduate and postgraduate studies. The EAP courses: • sharpen academic skills in preparation for study at TAFE, undergraduate and postgraduate level at VU • enable students to gain an understanding of Australian academic culture • improve language proficiency.
ENGLISH FOR BUSINESS This 5 week course is offered at Upper Intermediate level and is designed to improve general levels of English proficiency to increase knowledge of business vocabulary, issues and conventions. ENGLISH FOR SPORT This 5 or 10 week course provides a study pathway into VU Certificate, Diploma courses in Sport. INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTING SYSTEM (IELTS) ACADEMIC AND GENERAL This five week course is offered at Upper Intermediate level and prepares students to sit the IELTS. The course allows students to: • improve thier general levels of English proficiency • become familiar with the IELTS format • improve the test-taking strategies that are appropriate to the IELTS test.
