Weather in Mauritius One of the most important aspects of your golfing holiday which is unfortunately, beyond our control, is the weather. Luckily, Mauritius is a year round holiday destination and, by staying on the holiday friendly west coast, you will maximise your chances of the best weather on the island. Mauritius sits just above the tropic of Capricorn, which means it does not suffer from extreme temperatures.

Golf at the Paradis Hotel & Golf Club Arguably the most spectacular of all in Mauritius, the Paradis golf course sits on its own peninsular under the gaze of the spectacular Le Morne mountain, and winds its way around a marina and the stunning shores of the hotel’s coral reef enclosed lagoon.

The winds that swirl in different directions around the mountain can have a big effect on the front nine which finishes on the number 1 stroke hole. This requires an accurate drive and a long approach over water if you want to finish with a regulation par.

A true advantage of this course its location just some 50 metre’s from the Paradis Hotel reception. A quick breakfast, and a two minute walk and you have collected your clubs and are on the first tee! And if you are staying at the Dinarobin Hotel next door, your golf cart will be delivered to your suite!

The back nine, as beautiful as it is, is where you will suffer when hitting a wayward shot. With water on 5 holes and out of bounds on two, concentration and accuracy are a must.

One of the first courses on the island, the David Dutton design will punish those who push the ball to the right, and reward those who show patience and forward thinking. Long hitters must be straight, or be prepared to reload.

The course has a dedicated driving range, putting green and chipping green, as well as a computerised swing analysis system at the on-site Paradis Golf Academy. With its superb facilities, stunning views and challenging layout, this is a course that you will want to play more than once!

Paradis Golf Club The Paradis course is located at the resort, the first tee just two minutes walk from the hotel’s reception. It has been designed to capture the raw beauty and natural hazards of this magical setting, positioned between the mountain and the sea. The course facilities include a driving range, chipping area, putting green, and a Golf Academy with video analysis and golf pro. The elegant Clubhouse has a bar, locker room, club storage and there is modern equipment available for hire.

Exclusive Free Golf Offer Book 5 or more nights at the Paradis Hotel & Golf Club and receive FREE golf green fees for your first round on the Paradis course (excludes cart and equipment hire. Available only to Beachcomber Australia guests).

10

Golfer’s Package A fantastic golfer’s package which includes unlimited golf with cart, range balls, polo shirt, Spa golf massage and more, can be purchased. (See page 14 for details)

Extra Courses Guests benefit from preferential rates and tee times at the nearby Tamarina and Golf du Chateau courses.

Paradis and Dinarobin guests have a special arrangement with two nearby course, Tamarina and Golf du Chateau with preferential rates offered.

Tamarina Golf Course Designed by Rodney Wright, Tamarina 18-hole Championship Golf Course, just 20 minutes north of Paradis, is unmatched in it’s unmatched by its layout, location and beauty.

Playing 6800 metres from the Professional tees, the course is laid out with standard four par 3’s and four par 5’s with remaining holes as par 4’s. Each hole offers five different teeing options, catering for all levels of golfers.

This Par 72 challenging course undulates over 43 hectares of rugged savanna land framed with mature trees and crossed by the Rempart River. The landscaping of holes and surrounds have been contracted to an international team and the holes have been specially designed to give spectacular views of Mount Rempart and the towering mountain range. Some holes have great views over the crisp blue Tamarin Bay. Golfers will love the contrast between the rough surroundings and the smoothness of the rolling greens and wide fairways that adds to the experience of Tamarina golf course.

Tamarina greens are according to US specification: they are made of a special imported Ultra Dwarf Bermuda grass called “Champion” which is used successfully in similar climates in Texas. Fairways and tees are Tif Green 328 Bermuda grass that are used on greens elsewhere in the world. A fantastic 300m practice driving range is provided along with a large practice putting green and chipping and bunker facilities. Over 6km of concrete golf cart paths have been designed for the comfort of the golfer and a refreshment cart is available on the course (no half-way stops).

The Golf Du Chateau Golf Course This excellent 18-hole golf course, designed by South African golf architect, Peter Matkovich, features mostly wide, undulating fairways, and large greens protected in many cases by water, strategically placed bunkers, and thick African elephant grass. The course, located approximately 20 minutes south east of Paradis has scenery typical of Mauritius with its volcanic mountain backdrop and some breathtaking views out to sea. A number of holes feature tricky elevations and blind greens, and, just when you think you are safe to lash out with a driver, the fairways narrow and the option of landing in the rough becomes too much of a risk. The courses two rivers, ‘Citronniers’ and ‘St Martin’, cross the fairways at unexpected places.

For beginners or golfers wanting to hone their short game, there is also a 9-hole par 3 course on the site. A PGA run state-of-the-art golf academy and driving range, with top- rate instruction completes this course Players may either walk the course, which can take it’s toll in summer, or hire a buggy. OPENING HOURS • Summer (Oct – April) 7.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs • Winter (May – Sept) 7.00 hrs to 18.00 hrs

All starting times are at 10 minutes interval. A maximum of 4hrs 30 mins for 18 holes is allowed.

This course is designed to challenge advanced players, but, with five tee positions for each hole, and generous fairways, the casual golfer will find it enjoyable and will crave more than just one round.

11

Golf at the Shandrani Resort & Spa Shandrani Resort & Spa has its own golf course, built within the resort’s tropical gardens. The 9-hole par 29 “mashie” golf course spreads across 768 metres of the hotel’s grounds. The golf course runs adjacent to the beach, offering breathtaking views over the ocean. Shandrani’s golf course is a fantastic asset, which complements both the outstanding facilities offered at the resort and its comprehensive “all-inclusive” concept “Serenity plus”.

Guests residing at Shandrani enjoy free unlimited access to the golf course as part of the “Serenity plus” concept. Collective lessons are also included. The small size of the course makes it a perfect option to improve your short game but will offer a challenge to all beginners or seasoned golfers. With the “tee-off ” just 100 metres from the Reception and the beach, this course is both stimulating and fun.

The Legend

The Links

Designed by South African champion, Hugh Baiocchi, ‘The Legend’, was first of its kind in Mauritius. It is considered the crowning achievement of Belle Mare Plage.

The Links is the second Belle Mare Plage The Resort Championship Golf Course. Designed by Rodney Wright and Peter Allis it opened in November 2002.

Each of the 18 holes has distinctive characteristics with superb fairways laid in the heart of an indigenous forest. In a constant effort to provide the perfect golfing location, all 18 greens have been rebuilt to USPGA specifications, using Tif Dwarf grass, ensuring a perfect putting surface.

The clubhouse sits above the course and faces the mountains and setting sun but also gives panoramic views to the ocean.

The natural beauty of a site, originally used to breed deer, has been enhanced over time. The Legend boasts superb facilities with an excellent restaurant and bar waiting at the completion of your round. HOTELS Constance has appointed Australian golf pro, Peter Neville Brown, has been appointed as Director of Golf at Belle Mare Plage Brown has worked at a number of golf clubs in Australia, Singapore and Indonesia. He will look after the hotel’s two 18-hole championship golf courses. He will also be in charge of the golf academy’s activities and the organisation of the Mauritius Golf Open.

12

The natural setting of the course, over rolling links style terrain, is complemented by excellent fairways and firm greens. A special feature is the volcanic rock, piled high to form pyramid like structures that dot the course. Plenty of water makes for many challenges and afternoon sea-breezes can make a difference of 2 or 3 clubs to your selection. The course is situated a few kilometres from the hotel and shuttles are provided.

Le Touessrok “What I have aspired to create …. is a golfing experience that truly arouses all the senses. From the amazing natural setting to the challenges presented by the course, I want it to be a game to remember for all who play.” - Bernhard Langer And it is! Le Touessrok Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-72 course set on its own island, Isle aux Cerf. It is fringed by white sands and surrounded by water and features breathtaking views with holes winding up and down the length of the small island. The nine lakes on the course require tee shots across water to fairways.
