Hailing from Gourock, Inverclyde in Scotland, SLIX have been making waves since their 2019 debut. Having built a strong and passionate fanbase across the UK, the outfit have established themselves as one of the most exciting young bands in the current UK scene.
After the release of their 2022 debut EP Jingle Jangle, word spread fast about the absolute carnage unfolding at their shows and every date across the country was a fast sell-out, including a hometown gig in under 3 minutes and Glasgow's King Tut's in just 5 days.
Indie Inverclyde marks their first hometown gig in over two years, having played the TRSNMT festival (2023) to one of the biggest crowds of the day on the River Stage before announcing a show at McChuills in Glasgow, which sold out in under 3 minutes, matching their previous record and followed with another sell-out, this time their biggest show to date at the 600 cap Saint Lukes, Glasgow in March 2024.
Their infectiously energetic live presence, alternative-indie sound and relatable lyricism has fans and media buzzing for what's to come. Having been act of the week in the Scotland on Sunday and with rave reviews from the likes of CLASH magazine, Jack Saunders, BBC Introducing, Tenement TV and a recent single "With You" featured on E4's Made in Chelsea - not to mention having shared the stage with the likes of the View, having the opportunity to perform and be a part of 2023 & 2024's Wide Day's showcase and storming the stage at The Great Escape, TRNSMT and Twisterella Festivals and making their European debut at Madrid's Mad Cool Festival 2024 and Sweden's Future Echoes - it's no surprise that many predict a bright future ahead for the lads.

Lloyd Cole rose to fame with The Commotions, whose 1984 album Rattlesnakes is among the classic albums of its era. Cole later embarked on a solo career. Last year’s On Pain was his 12th album as a solo artist. Cole’s hits such as Perfect Skin and Lost Weekend are part of the indie rock canon in terms of catchiness and punchiness but the songwriter’s overall output creates a trajectory that includes bold leaps into new territory. At the heart of it all is a soulfulness that reminds us that music, at its best, is not just a pleasure to listen to but also something that can be felt.

With a 40-year career in criminal behavior and as host of many television crime shows, including Channel 4’s In The Footsteps of Killers, David Wilson is no stranger to what motivates murderers and the triggers that can set them on a killing spree. Completely rewriting the history of British pop music, Why Britain Rocked argues that The Beatles’ arrival that so surprised the world really shouldn’t have been a surprise at all. Why Britain Rocked breaks out of British pop history’s 20th-century confines. Sharkey starts the story in Celtic Britain and follows migrating peoples to the southern States, laying the foundations of America’s folk music and, ultimately, rock ’n’ roll. Back in Britain, she reveals how Henry VIII ensured Britain’s art colleges became feeder schools for Top of the Pops; identifies the Celtic inheritance of superstars from Lonnie Donegan to Ed Sheeran; and relates the enduring power of British balladry. A Q&A with Elizabeth Sharkey follows the talk.

Support Us
Our mission is to 'light up lives through the arts' in Inverclyde. The important role that we play in Inverclyde is recognised by Inverclyde Council and by Creative Scotland, both of which provide generous support. However, the majority of our income is generated by our own activities: ticket sales, commercial hires and, importantly, fundraising.
Without the support we receive from people like you, the Beacon would be unable to present the rich programme of performances, the exhibitions and the wide range of participatory arts that we offer to communities throughout Inverclyde.
How can I help?
The Beacon was founded in 1946 in memory of those who had died during World War II. Our poignant beginnings continue to inspire our programming and we remain determined to ensuring that we make theatre, music, art and dance available to everyone in Inverclyde, whatever their circumstances.
We have created a several ways for you to be part of what we do. You can:
Volunteer. There are many ways in which volunteers provide support to the Beacon. These include supporting our Dance for Parkinson’s programme, playing the role of a Beacon ambassador in the community and supporting one-off events at the arts centre.
Support our “Pay It Forward” programme. By donating to this scheme, your gift supports subsidised access for adults and children to performances and participatory arts sessions as well as supporting the transportation to get there for those who otherwise would be unable to attend.
Sponsorship. There are a range of opportunities to sponsor a show at the Beacon. These focus on our homeproduced work, and particularly the annual pantomime that has become such an Inverclyde tradition. You’d be surprised by how affordable some of the sponsorship options are!
Join the Beacon’s Producers’ Circle. This is a special group of people whose donations support our annual programme. There is a series of benefits for those who choose to join this club. Leaving a legacy is another way of supporting the Beacon. Most donations of this kind contribute to the fund that we are building to provide the Beacon with a permanent endowment which will ensure that future generations can continue to benefit from Inverclyde’s treasured arts centre.
If you would like more details on any or all of the ways that you can help us, please contact Karen Townsend Co-Director via email karent@beaconartscentre.co.uk or call 01475 460266
'We are proud that over a third of households in Inverclyde have engaged with the Beacon and by doing so participated in the rich cultural life of our region. Please help us to be here for you, for them and for the future.'
Take Part
Our aim at the Beacon is to have “Something for Everyone” and that certainly applies to our Take Part programme. There are always new activities taking place, from art classes to children’s holiday activities. Keep an eye on the website, or even better join our mailing list and simply email info@beaconartcentre.co.uk or call our friendly Box Office team on 01475 723723.
