Prayer to St. Jude

Most holy Apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the church honors and invokes you universally, as the patron of hopeless cases, of things almost despaired of. Pray for me, I am so helpless and alone. Make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege given to you, to bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, particularly (your request) and that I may praise God with you and all the elect forever. I promise, O blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, to always honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to gratefully encourage devotion to you. Amen. R.R.

What attracts pests to a home?

No homeowner wants pests to invade their homes or their yards. However, it’s easy for pests to find their way into and around a home. In fact, certain conditions may be inviting pests to a property.

• Garbage: Piles of garbage offer food and shelter to pests. Removing garbage piles and cleaning up food waste promptly can make a difference.

• Stagnant water: Mosquitoes breed in standing water, which is water not affected by waves, current or a filtration system. Anywhere water has pooled, mosquitoes may be breeding.

• Moisture or standing water: Additional sources of water and moisture may attract pests like gnats, mosquitoes, stink bugs, and certain spiders. Damp areas are of particular concern, especially when combined with darkness.

YARD CLEAN-UPS & Grass Mowing: Starting my own business. Very reasonable. Senior Citizens’ Discount. Free estimates. Please call 585-8128.

• Firewood: Firewood may attract a variety of pests, including termites and weevils. Firewood also may contain eggs that were laid before trees were cut down. If firewood is needed, it should be stacked far away from a home.

• Clogged gutters: Ignoring clogged gutters can lead to pest problems. Mice, squirrels, birds, ants, and spiders may be attracted to damp leaves in clogged gutters. Leaves offer shelter, nesting material and possible food sources of insect life.

SAY-U-SAURUS in The Reminder

• Dirty dishes and indoor trash: Leaving food-covered dishes in the sink invites pests. Leftover food attracts cockroaches, flies, ants, and more. Even if time is short, it’s best to wash dishes or load them into the dishwasher. Overflowing trash also draws pests into a home.

• Clutter: Clutter provides hiding places for all sorts of rodents and insects, which can hide out in cluttered areas and remain comfortable. Going room to room and clearing out extraneous items may help reduce pest populations. Focus on the garage and basement, in particular. Pests are attracted to certain conditions, and remedying these issues can help reduce pest infestations.

Choosing the right outdoor cooking solution for your needs

Warmer temperatures and sun-filled days mean it’s time to take entertaining and socializing outdoors, and a key component of many outdoor gatherings is fresh-grilled food.

Because firing up the grill can make prepping meals quick and easy, it allows you to spend more time with friends and family rather than missing out on the sunshine while stuck in the kitchen. Whether you’re a first-time griller or consider yourself a master of the grates, there’s a grill available to meet your skill level and needs, such as these options that provide flexibility for small-tomidsize backyard spaces - as well as a large builtin model for custom outdoor kitchens - and a variety of features and function to make the most of your warm weather gatherings.

Portable, Small-Space Cooking

Ideal for first-time grillers, couples, small families or those with limited backyard spaces, the Megamaster 3-Burner Gas Grill was designed to fuse performance and value. Despite its size, it can cater to almost any grilling or entertaining need with three stainless steel burners and 447 square inches of cooking space, a combination of versatility and capacity to prepare large quantities of food as well as various types of food simultaneously. Plus, it’s easy to maneuver on two heavy-duty wheels, making it simple to free up patio space after use. Learn more at megamaster.com.

Family-Sized Functionality

With ample cooking space to feed small and medium-sized groups, the Nexgrill 4-Burner Gas Grill with Side Burner is a perfect all-around grill for both beginners and seasoned grilling enthusiasts. Always ready to fire up some flavor, the durable grill also features a stainless steel side burner to saute, simmer and warm dishes simultaneously as well as 628 square inches of cooking space, meaning family favorites like burgers, dogs, chicken and more can be put on the table quickly. Many homeowners put off upgrading essential spaces like the bathroom because they perceive the hassle or expense outweighs the benefit. Common myths surrounding these projects keep many homeowners from even envisioning a beautiful new bathroom, let alone embarking on a remodeling project.

“There’s a lot of misinformation about renovations, especially when it comes to bathrooms,” said Scott McGillivray, HGTV star. “A lot of people think a bathroom renovation means you have to gut the whole thing and start over. That is not true.”

To help sort facts from fiction, consider this information from the experts at Bath Fitter, a leader in custom bath and shower remodels, along with results from their online survey of 1,000 U.S. adults.

Myth: A traditional down-to-studs remodel is the “right” way or “only” way to achieve a new bathroom.

Truth: Tradition and right are not one and the same. There are plenty of innovative ways to achieve a like-new bathroom without the messy demolition, stress and unexpected delays. In fact, according to the survey, 50% of respondents who renovated their bathroom in the past five years agree that a tub-over-tub liner is an affordable solution that eliminates these renovation pain points while providing the same quality and durability of a traditional remodel with longlasting results.

Myth: Tub and shower liners are made from substandard material that results in a low-quality look.

Truth: Constructed from the same premium acrylic found in high-end spas, custom liner products are a high-quality solution that’s just as attractive, exceptionally durable and easy to clean. Consider options from Bath Fitter, which manufactures every acrylic bathtub, shower and wall at its North American facility, ensuring the highest quality standards are met. When installed with a one-piece seamless wall system, these acrylic tubs and showers look new for longer than most traditional remodel options and are backed by a lifetime guarantee.

Myth: Tub and shower liners are “coverups,” which can worsen or create problems with mold or water damage.

Truth: Custom-made tubs and showers are installed using a grout-free, watertight system that prevents future mold and water damage. Extensive sanitizing of existing bath areas ensures a clean and strong foundation prior to installation. In fact, 47% of survey respondents who renovated their bathroom in the past five years used a tub-over-tub solution as part of the renovation.

Myth: Liners are a temporary fix that won’t last or serve as a long-term replacement.

Truth: While 1 in 4 future renovators believe tub-over-tub solutions are covers and insufficient substitutes for a complete replacement, McGillivray’s renovation experience tells a different story.

Unlike resurfacing or replacing bathtubs or showers, which may only last a few years, Bath Fitter products offer the same look and feel of a new tub or shower but with a lifetime guarantee, installation in as little as 24 hours and less hassle than a full demolition renovation.

“Bath

Myth: The number of bath and shower style options are limited and won’t fit contemporary bathroom design trends.

Truth: Custom tubs and showers are available with hundreds of design and customization options to suit any space or style and blend in seamlessly with your chosen aesthetic. From Scandinavian to English Country,

Fitter is a great example of how to reface a bathroom,” McGillivray said. “It gets you the beautiful, finished product you are looking for, but it’s smart because it saves time, money and adds life expectancy back to the space.”
you can find an expansive portfolio of designs that can be integrated into an existing design or incorporated into an updated look. Find more ideas and inspiration for your bathroom remodel at bathfitter.com. If you’ve lived in your home for a while, it may be time to give your bathroom more than just a facelift. Dated fixtures, peeling paint and chipped tiles are telltale signs that all isn’t well with your bathroom. A beautiful new bathroom may be more accessible than you think. A one-day bath remodel can turn your outdated bathroom into a stylish space you’ll enjoy using every day. Convenient: A one-day bathroom remodel is perfect if you want to upgrade your bathroom without interrupting your daily life. Since it can be completed in just a few hours, you can skip the inconvenience of having a construction crew in your home or experiencing extended disruptions to your daily routine. Affordable: Traditional bathroom renovations can take weeks to finish with costs rising by the hour. A one-day bathroom remodel keeps costs down since the installers specialize in completing bathroom remodels quickly and efficiently. Customizable: You can customize every aspect of your new bathroom, from the fixtures and walls to the accessories and lighting. Experiment with different designs and make your vision a reality using Bath Fitter’s Design Your Own Bath online tool.

Corral Clutter with a Mudroom

Often positioned near the primary point of entry, mudrooms are a popular addition to many family homes. These organizational dynamos are the perfect place to catch muddy boots, backpacks, sports equipment and dirty paws before they make it all the way into the main living areas.

Luxurious mudrooms in high-end homes can sometimes boast custom cabinetry, full bathrooms, laundry facilities, showers for pets and direct pantry access.

Regardless of whether your mudroom is an actual room or just a small space near the front door to hang bags and jackets, the

organizational basics are the same: Corral Clutter: One of the most important items in any mudroom is storage for shoes, pet supplies, backpacks, sporting equipment and other items. If built-in storage isn’t in your budget, put up a sturdy shelving unit with a bin or basket for each family member.

Get Hooked: Securely anchor a row of strong hooks along the wall for coats, hats, scarves or other seasonal accessories that may otherwise find themselves dropped on the floor upon arriving home.

Mud Happens: Mudrooms are meant to handle dirt so nix the carpet and lay down tile or hardwood flooring. Pick a stylish rug to catch

dirt in its tracks while also adding a design element to the space.

Shoe Space: Place a wooden bench or sturdy coffee table near the door so everyone has a place to sit while removing shoes. Slide a few baskets or bins underneath as an alternate location for storing backpacks and other gear when not in use.

Take Command: Create a family command center by adding a small cabinet or desk with a corkboard above. It makes for a perfect spot to stash keys, charge cell phones, open mail, sort school papers and post the family calendar.

A Trip to Northern Maine

As an auction house, the core part of our business in which we acquire material to sell is by going on house calls. A “house call” is simply when someone makes an appointment for us to come see their collection. If it’s local, (under an hour drive) we typically take the chance sight-unseen to go look, as you never know what people have. However, when it’s a long distance, even just two hours, we like to see something to let us know it’s worth taking a drive for a closer look. As with any business there is nothing more important than time, so that’s why we always ask people to send photographs if they’re a good distance away.

However, there is sometimes that situation where for whatever reason they cannot send photographs. Usually, the person is older and unfamiliar with digital photographs and email. That’s when the trip becomes a gamble. That’s when as an auctioneer and appraiser we need to follow our gut, feel out the phone call, and determine: is it worth it? That’s the decision I had to make before driving almost 5 hours to northern Maine

on the Canadian border last week.

The backstory: Last month we received a phone call from a woman with a comic collection in Somerset County Maine. Her husband unfortunately passed away five years ago, leaving her with 21 boxes of comic books and no idea what to do with them. She did not know titles, age, publisher – every detail was a total shot in the dark. The only clue I was given before making the trek was the majority were 10 cents on the cover. That was it - But for me, that was good enough!

Fast forward through six hours of driving and two hours of discovery in the home, and the collection ended up being a treasure trove of Golden Age comics, including numerous E.C. crime and horror books, D.C. hero, and select Silver and Bronze Age keys. The short answer, this collection is awesome!

There was a chance the collection was not going to

be good, but it was the complete opposite and better than expected. What once a woman thought was clutter in her home will now be a near life changing financial nest egg. This is just one story of many we encounter and why it is so important to work with a trusted auction house or appraiser when handling collections, items in storage, or items from the homes of loved ones. You always want to make sure you are properly informed on what you have, because sometimes you never know. It only takes one comic book, trading card, painting, etc. to change your life!

Handmade scented candles, custom-made handbags, charcuterie boards, playful gnomes, and tumblers that are only $20 ~ the list goes on and on! There is something special for every buyer. Some may ask, who is the curator of this beautiful collection of handmade treasures? That person would be Robin Gursky, the owner of Endeavors & More and a talented artist in her own right. Robin’s creative touch and eye for merchandizing are evident in every corner of this special gift shop.

In addition to being a shop owner, Robin is also a Young Living® Essential Oils vendor and representative, so if you are a fan of essential oils and organic, non-toxic, and concentrated Thieves®

cleaning products, be sure to check out her impressive inventory!

Beyond this vast selection of functional and fanciful gifts, there is also an eye-catching display of honey and maple syrup here, all sourced from local beekeepers and syrup makers. Fans of We Be Jammin’s popular products will find every sauce, salsa, dressing, dry seasoning, and butter

they could want for their pantry here. If you have never tried Martinelli’s Farm & Charcuterie cured meats, be sure to check out the huge selection of meats at Endeavors & More. Watch for the newest items for sale, locally-sourced goatmilk soap and lotions. One of the best parts of Endeavors & More is its regularly scheduled, hands-on craft classes.

Fellow crafters and artisans alike love these classes of fellowship and instruction. Classes are held every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. All workshops are listed on the shop’s frequently updated Facebook page (check the “events” or “about” link).

Endeavors & More is not a consignment shop, instead, artists rent their space for four

months, after which they can renew or end their contract. Contracts range from $50 to $100 per month per display space.

Come explore

Endeavors & More at 89 Sandy Bottom Road. Call Robin at 401-323-9825 or find her on Facebook. Open Monday & Thursday, 3am~9pm, Tues., Wed., Friday, 10am ~ 6pm, and Saturdays 11am ~5pm. Closed on Sundays.
