The Miracle Prayer Dear Heart of Jesus: In the past, I have asked many favors. This time, I ask you this very special one. Take it Dear Heart of Jesus and place it within your own broken heart, where your father sees it. Then, in your merciful eyes, it will become your favor, not mine. Say this prayer for 3 days, promise publication and your favor will be granted no matter how impossible. Thank you also to the Divine Mercy.

DEAR PAW’S CORNER: Please remind your readers of how important it is to keep their pets away from holiday foods. Some foods, like chocolate, can be deadly poisonous to dogs, while rich foods and ingredients like onions or raisins can be dangerous for cats and dogs. — Jessica in New Jersey DEAR JESSICA: You told them, and thank you! The holiday season, with plenty of parties, family and food, can be hectic for everyone, but it’s important to monitor pets and make sure they’re kept away from potentially harmful items. Many foods, not just chocolate but onions, grapes and raisins, nuts, avocados and other holiday foods can cause house pets great harm. Store them well out of reach, and keep pets out of the kitchen when cooking and away from serving tables. A more extensive list of common foods that can be poisonous to pets is available from the Humane Society of the United States (www. humanesociety.org). Christmas tree ornaments also can potentially be harmful. Cats love knocking down glass ornaments and may accidentally ingest tinsel or other shiny strands. Dogs may gnaw on interesting packages or break into gift boxes of candy or fruit. Even plants need to be kept out of reach: poinsettias, for example, are toxic to cats. To minimize risk, place breakable ornaments higher on the tree and put plants well out of reach. During parties or dinners, place your pets in a separate area of the house with bedding, food and water, and check on them occasionally. (This also is helpful in keeping pets’ stress levels down.) Send your tips, comments and questions to ask@pawscorner.com. © 2021 King Features Synd., Inc.

1. Which artist’s debut album was titled “The Kick Inside”? 2. Name the duo who released “Summer Nights.” What soundtrack was it used in? 3. What do “One Fine Day,” “Sh-Boom,” “Stagger Lee” and “Da Doo Ron Ron” have in common? 4. Who had a debut hit with “I Only Want to Be with You”? 5. Name the song that contains this lyric: “Goodbye, Papa, please pray for me, I was the black sheep of the family.” Answers 1. Kate Bush, in 1978. She insisted that her self-penned “Wuthering Heights” be included instead of “James and the Cold Gun,” which was being pushed on her by the record company. 2. John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, in the 1978 musical film “Grease.” They sang seven of the 24 tracks on the double album. 3. They were dropped (!!) from the 2010 update of Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 Greatest Songs list. 4. Dusty Springfield, in 1963. 5. “Seasons in the Sun,” by Terry Jacks, in 1974. It’s based on the 1961 song “Le Moribond” by Belgian singer-songwriter Jacques Brel, with lyrics rewritten in English by American poet Rod McKuen. It was offered to the Beach Boys, who declined it, and Jacks’ version went on to top the charts worldwide.

HOLLYWOOD — If you’re Leonardo DiCaprio, how do you top starring with Jennifer Lawrence in Netflix sci-fi drama “Don’t Look Up” (due Dec. 24) and with Robert DeNiro in Martin Scorsese’s $200 million “Killer of the Flower Moon” (for Paramount+ and Apple TV)? Star, produce and play cult leader Jim Jones, who, in Jonestown, Guyana, on Nov. 18, 1978, fatally poisoned 900 followers and himself with cyanide-laced Flavor Aid. DiCaprio turned 47 on Nov. 11, the same age as Jim Jones when he died. *** Aaron Sorkin’s film about Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, “Being the Ricardos,” for Amazon will have the emphasis on drama, not comedy. Oscar-winners Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem are Lucy and Desi, and it covers Lucy’s investigation by the FBI for registering to vote as a Communist in 1936 (to please her ailing grandfather) and her struggles in convincing CBS to hire Desi as Ricky so she could keep him from gallivanting all over the globe with his band ... and female fans. Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons and Nina Arianda play Fred and Ethel Mertz. The film opens in theaters Dec. 10 and starts streaming Dec. 21 via Prime Video. Next, Kidman reunites with her “Big Little Lies” husband, Alexander Skarsgard, in the historical thriller “The North Man,” starring Bjork and Ethan Hawke, out April 8. *** Gal Gadot was thrilled when original 1970s TV “Wonder Woman” Lynda Carter, now 70, played Asteria, the greatest Amazon Warrior in Greek mythology. She confessed, “Lynda has mentored me from the first moment I was cast as Wonder Woman. She’s a true champion of what I’ve been doing.” Carter will be back for the third edition of “Wonder Woman.” Gadot hit screens Nov. 5 in “Red Notice,” with Ryan Reynolds and

Leo DiCaprio Dwayne Johnson, and is upcoming in “Death on the Nile,” out Feb. 11. *** Here’s a new one for you. More than 21,000 fans of the Broadway musical “Wicked” have signed a petition pleading with Universal Studios, which is making the film version, that “James Cordon in no way, shape or form be in or near the production of the movie.” Cordon has a way of insinuating himself into movie musicals such as “Into the Woods,” “Cats,” “Cinderella” (which he also produced) playing a mouse, and Ryan Murphy’s film of Broadway’s “The Prom,” with Meryl Streep. Cordon was singled out in Vanity Fair’s review, which said, “Cordon, flitting and lisping around in the most uninspired of caricatures, misses all potential for nuance and thus never finds even a hint of truth in the role.” Maybe he should stick to his late-night talk show instead of playing “Cats” and mouse with film audiences! © 2021 King Features Synd., Inc.

Warm up the crowd at this year’s playoff tailgate Tailgating at the big game is a time-honored and beloved tradition for millions of football fans. Tailgates tend to be parties in parking lots, and no party is complete without food. The best teams in the National Football League will battle it out on the gridiron in their quest for a championship this January and February. Despite chilly temperatures, fans of those teams will undoubtedly be tailgating outside the stadium before and after the games. A hearty dish that sticks to the ribs can make it easier to withstand winter weather at this year’s playoff tailgate. This recipe for “Brisket Chili” from Will Budiaman’s “The Essential Kamado Grill Cookbook” (Rockridge Press) can be just what football fans need to stay warm at this year’s tailgate. Better yet, it makes excellent use of leftover Texas-style beef brisket, giving football fans a great reason to smoke some brisket in the days before the big game. Brisket Chili Serves 8 3 1 1 1 2 1 2 1
tablespoons vegetable oil tablespoon cumin seeds medium yellow onion, chopped Kosher salt tablespoon tomato paste teaspoons cayenne pepper 28-ounce can diced tomatoes 15-ounce cans kidney beans, rinsed and drained pound Texas-style beef brisket (see below), chopped
1. Bring the grill to 500 F with the cooking grate installed, then preheat a 5-quart cast iron Dutch oven on the grate with the lid closed. 2. Pour the oil into the Dutch oven and close the grill lid. Once hot, add the cumin seeds and cook for about 15 seconds or until they start to pop. 3. Add the onion and stir until coated with the oil. Close the grill lid and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until softened and browned. 4. Season with salt. Stir in the tomato paste.
Close the grill lid and cook for 1 minute or until bright red. 5. Stir in the cayenne, tomatoes with their juices, and beans. Remove the Dutch oven from the heat. 6. Wearing barbecue gloves, carefully remove the grate, install the heat deflector, and replace the grate. Reduce the grill temperature to 350 F. 7. Put the Dutch oven back on the grate. Close the grill lid and bring to a simmer. Cook for 1 hour or until thickened. Serve immediately. Texas-Style Beef Brisket Serves 6 to 8 1 3 3
8- to 10-pound beef brisket tablespoons kosher salt tablespoons freshly ground black pepper
1. Trim off any hard fat from the brisket and
square off the edges. Trim the fat cap down to an even 1⁄4-inch thickness. Sprinkle evenly on all sides with the salt and pepper. Refrigerate overnight. 2. Prepare the grill for smoking at 250 F to 275 F. 3. Place the brisket fat-side up on the grate over the drip pan. Close the lid. If desired, wrap in aluminum foil after 5 to 6 hours or once the bark (crust) is dark brown. 4. Turn over the brisket, close the lid, and continue cooking for 2 hours, 30 minutes to 3 hours, 30 minutes or until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center registers 200 F. 5. Rest the brisket, wrapped in foil, for 1 to 2 hours before serving. Cut across the grain into 1⁄4-inch-thick slices. Pour over as much of the drippings from the pan as you like, and serve.

Q:
Where has Susan Sarandon been lately? She’s my all-time favorite movie actress. How many Oscars has she won? — S.F. Despite just turning 75 years old, Susan Sarandon has not slowed down. She first shot to fame at age 29 in the cult-movie comedy “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” She’s no stranger to the Oscars, having been nominated five times before winning in 1996 for her performance as a nun opposite Sean Penn’s death row inmate in “Dead Man Walking.” In recent years she’s played movie star Bette Davis in the Ryan Murphy series “Feud: Bette and Joan,” a movie mogul in Showtime’s “Ray Donovan” and returned to comedy in the film “A Bad Moms Christmas.” Next, she stars in the country-music drama series “Monarch,” which premieres Jan. 30 at 10 p.m. ET on Fox. *** I make a point to watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” every December. Did Jimmy Stewart win an Oscar for the role or any other roles? He certainly deserved a whole mantle full. — D.J. With his distinctive voice, Jimmy Stewart was absolutely one of the all-time greats. Born in 1908, he went on to act in 80 films up until 1991. He was nominated five times for Best Actor in a Leading Role, including for “It’s a Wonderful Life,” but his only win was for “The Philadelphia Story.” “It’s a Wonderful Life” was the first film Stewart made after serving as an Air Force pilot during World War II. He was reported to have suffered PTSD, and this certainly made an impact on his emotional performance as George Bailey in the film. When he returned to acting, Stewart found that Hollywood had moved on without him. He wanted to do a comedy after having endured the trauma of war, but the only role offered was the despondent Bailey in the future Frank Capra classic. Stewart reluctantly agreed, and the rest is history. *** I saw a commercial where Will Smith goes on an out-

Susan Sarandon in “A Bad Moms Christmas” door adventure around the world. I didn’t catch whether he’s a character in a movie or what, but it looked so interesting. When does it come out? — K.E. Will Smith does have a new movie out, “King Richard,” where he plays the father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams in a story about their lives, but the commercial you saw is for a limited reality series with Smith as himself. In “Welcome to Earth,” he goes on adventures around the world with Oscar-winning filmmaker Darren Aronofsky. Guided by experienced explorers, Smith climbs volcanoes and glaciers, journeys 3,000 feet below the sea, and gets up close and personal with wild creatures. It will be available for streaming beginning Dec. 8 on Disney+. This year also has been one of reflection for the 53-year-old actor, as he recently published his memoir, “Will,” which you can learn more about at WilltheBook.com. Soon, we will busy composing our goals for the year ahead which, for many of us, will include keeping a cleaner house. Rosemary Cashews for Holiday Snacking I'm nuts about nuts. All year-round. I try to keep a bowl of fresh, shelled California almonds replenished and within easy reach on the kitchen counter for a grab and go snack. And thanks to my Georgia-raised friend, I have a stash of tasty pecans for tossing on salads and desserts.
Rosemary cashews set the scene for holiday gift-giving. For the holidays, our tastes shift to cashews, and this easy recipe that makes them, well, more festive. The addition of fresh rosemary and cayenne pepper is unexpected and always gets raves. Here's our family version, which calls for your kids' assistance. Let them take charge of pulling the fresh rosemary leaves off the stems before you mince the fragrant herb with a
sharp knife. Heat up the nuts in the oven and the remaining steps come together in minutes. Double the recipe for holiday gift-giving. Instead of filling cellophane food bags, use recycled clearglass jars. Your kids might want to make it whimsical and reminiscent of a snow globe scene by layering the seasoned cashews in the bottom third and adding a cute foil-covered chocolate snowman or ornament on top of the cashews. Anchor sprigs of rosemary upright to mimic pine trees, screw on the lid and add a tag. For an extra gift, tie a spoon to the jar for scooping up the flavorful treat. Let's get cooking ...
ROSEMARY CASHEWS 3
cups roasted, unsalted cashews 1 heaping tablespoon minced fresh rosemary leaves 1 tablespoon brown sugar 1 tablespoon salt 1½ tablespoons unsalted butter, melted 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional) 1. Heat oven to 350 F. 2. Spread the cashews in one layer on a cookie sheet and bake for about 6 minutes, or until warm and lightly toasted. 3. Combine the rosemary, brown sugar, salt, melted butter and cayenne pepper (if you wish an extra kick) in a large bowl. When the cashews are heated, immediately pour them into the bowl with the spice butter mixture. Toss thoroughly. 4. Cool and serve, or store in an airtight container up to two weeks. NOTE: If you prefer, substitute 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup for 1 tablespoon brown sugar. *** Find more family fun at www.donnaerickson.com. Life Below Zero: Northern Territories (TV-14) — The NatGeo series takes viewers to the far reaches of northernmost Canada for a fascinating lesson on how people survive without many of the conveniences most of us couldn’t live without for a single day. Sub-Arctic living takes significant heartiness of mind and spirit, and surviving off the grid in such unrelenting conditions is a nonstop effort. “Nothing comes easy up here,” says one resident as she hunts musk ox by herself as her eyelashes freeze over. So grab some hot tea and prepare to really appreciate your municipal utility services and corner grocer. (Disney+)

King Richard (PG-13) — Long before Venus and Serena Williams were household names known worldwide, they were just two sisters in a family of seven living in Compton, California. Their father, Richard, was both homeschool teacher and athletic trainer. More importantly, he was the visionary providing the steady push behind the incredible athletes we know today. Will Smith gives a thoughtful performance as the Williams’ patriarch, ever focused on paving a path for his daughters to hone their own greatness. Saniyya Sidney as young Venus and Demi Singleton as young Serena are each charming, convincingly athletic and talented at portraying the determined yet humble champions. Dudes from *NSYNC, 98 Degrees, Boyz II Men, New Edition, New Kids on the Block and even O-Town converged to create the ultimate manly song-and-dance special to rev up your holiday spirit. Bonzo Bank This vintage bank is easy to date. It is a type of tin bank that is no longer popular, and the dog decorating the front was a comic cartoon star from the 1920s to the 1940s. This is the first famous Bonzo. A live dog by that name became famous in the movies years later. Bonzo was first pictured in a British comic strip in 1922, but the bank was made in Germany by Saalheimer & Strauss. The company made toys, especially cars and motorcycles, until it was bought in 1936. The toys had an oval mark with two overlapping S letters on top of the word Success. There are two similar versions of the bank; a poem explaining how to deposit money is on the front of one type but not on the other. Bertoia Auctions sold this mechanical bank for $1,800. *** Is an embossed metal Cracker Jack button stud worth anything? It has Sailor Jack, little dog Bingo and “Me for Crackerjack” on the front. It’s about 1-inch high and 3/4-inch wide. Frederick Rueckheim began selling popcorn in 1871. He and his brother, Louis, sold a mixture of popcorn, peanuts and molasses at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893. Louis copyrighted the recipe and the slogan, “The more you eat, the more you want,” in 1896. Coupons for prizes were added to the boxes in 1910. Sales increased dramatically after small prizes for children were included in the boxes beginning in 1912. Frederick’s grandson was the model for Sailor Jack, which was first used in advertisements in 1916. The first boxes with Sailor Jack were produced in 1918. Cracker Jack prizes are collectible, especially the old metal ones. Prizes were eliminated in 2016 and replaced by a game that can be played by scanning a URL code. A button stud like yours sold recently for $56. Cracker Jack is now part of Frito Lay. *** CURRENT PRICES Pewter candlesticks, fluted stem with swags, square base with cut corners, touch mark on base, Continental, c. 1800, 89 inches, pair $30.

Planning ahead can help make adverse situations more manageable. Such is the case when storms strike and the power goes out. Extended power outages may not be pleasant, but some proactive planning can make it easier to withstand blackouts. • Establish a local support network. Support can be just as valuable as supplies when confronting power outages. The American Red Cross urges individuals to identify people who can help them during an extended power outage. Such individuals may help you stay at home or evacuate if the power will be out for a lengthy period of time. Support networks can include relatives who live in nearby towns, but also neighbors. A single street can be served by different substations and main power lines, so friends or neighbor across the street may keep their power when your house does not, or vice versa. When the power goes out, support networks can pool their resources in various ways, including sharing refrigerators or allowing neighbors without power to access the internet. Such support makes it easier for everyone to get through the outage with as little interruption to their lives as possible. • Print a list of important contacts. If the power is out, it’s only a matter of time before smartphones lose their battery power. Phones can always be plugged into vehicles to get a quick power boost, but that’s not the most practical way to keep phones charged, especially if local roads are closed. A printed list of important contacts, including nearby relatives like seniors who may be incapacitated, doctors and school of-
ficials, ensures people whose phone batteries have died can still contact their loved ones and other important individuals so long as they can use a neighbor’s or a loved one’s phone. • Learn to use your generator. Consumer Reports notes that improper operation of a generator can quickly prove deadly. If carbon monoxide concentrations are too high, individuals can lose their lives in as little as five minutes. And this is no insignificant threat, as the Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that 95 people died from generator-associated carbon monoxide poisoning in 2017. CR recommends operating generators at least 20 feet away from the house. Individuals should familiarize themselves with their generators upon purchasing them so they aren’t forced to endure a trial by fire when the power goes out. • Stock up on essentials. The Red Cross recommends keeping a twoweek supply of nonperishable food and water in the house, making sure to date each container of water and replace it every six months. Keep some extra coolers in the house so food can be stored on ice before it spoils in the refrigerator or freezer. In addition, make sure there’s enough blankets in the house to keep everyone warm overnight, as it’s not safe to use outdoor heaters indoors. Stock up on battery-powered lights and candles to light the house at night, but make sure all candles are extinguished before going to bed. Extended power outages can be a nuisance. Planning for such outages in advance can make blackouts more manageable.

How to reduce risk of home fires this holiday season METRO
Safety might not be the first thing people think of as the holiday season approaches. Faith, celebrations, decorations, and holiday dinners all come to mind when considering the holiday season. But that doesn’t mean safety should be left out of holiday planning. Fire safety bears special consideration during the holiday season, when the prevalence of fire hazards like Christmas trees, holiday lighting displays and other decorative items increase the risk for home fires. Such tragedies can be averted with a few simple safety measures. • Tend to your tree. Live Christmas trees are awe-inspiring, but they also pose a significant fire risk. The National Fire Protection Association urges celebrants to purchase only healthy trees with fresh, green needles that do not fall off when touched. Such trees are less likely to dry out, especially when wellwatered throughout the season. Dry trees can catch fire more easily than healthy trees if embers from nearby fireplaces or candles drift in their direction. • Recognize that location matters when decorating. The NFPA notes that Christmas trees should always be placed at least three feet away from any heat source, including fireplaces, space heaters, heat vents, candles, and even overhead lights. If decorating with candles, never place them on the tree or on tables where other flammable decorations have already been placed. Chanukah menorahs should never be placed near curtains or other decorations. • Turn off all lights and extinguish all lit decorative items when leaving the home or going to bed. Lit candles and menorahs should never be left unattended. The NFPA recommends turning tree lights and exterior decorative lights off when leaving the home or going to bed. • Utilize a fire screen on fireplaces. Embers can catch on trees, decorations or anything else that’s
flammable if they escape the fireplace. Fire screens prevent that from happening by ensuring embers from burning logs stay in the fireplace. Like candles and menorahs, fires burning in a fireplace should never be left unattended. Make sure all embers have been extinguished before leaving the home or going to bed. • Keep discarded trees away from your home. A 2014 analysis from the NFPA found that none of the
ten days with the largest share of Christmas tree fires were before Christmas. Dried out trees still pose a fire risk even after they’ve been removed from a home. When discarding a tree at the end of the holiday season, place it at the curb or keep it a safe distance away from your home and garage until you can. Fire safety measures are an important component of the holiday season that can prevent this joyous time of year from turning tragic. TF21C573

review medications at every visit to look for errors, medicines that have combined toxicities, medicines that are less safe in older adults and any medicines that might safely be discontinued. *** DEAR DR. ROACH: I am an 89-year-old man who has been taking tamsulosin (Flomax), 0.4 mg, for many years. I take it after supper in the evening. I get up at night three or four times to urinate. Would it be better to take the medication after lunch? I would be happy if I could reduce the number of times I get up to maybe only once or twice. — P.J.S. ANSWER: Tamsulosin is in the class of alpha blockers, and they relax smooth muscle, a special type of muscle found in the prostate and in blood vessels (among other places). Relaxing the smooth muscle in the prostate makes the urethra, the tube that carries the urine from the bladder and through the prostate, larger. As a result, men can empty their bladders more easily. However, even though tamsulosin is better at relaxing smooth muscle in the prostate than in blood vessels, some men will get lightheaded upon standing when using it. This occurs especially on the first dose, and over time most men no longer have trouble. It is usually dosed at nighttime so that the lightheadedness on standing is minimized. You can take it at any time of the day (a half-hour after eating is recommended, at the same meal of the day), but I doubt it will work much better. Many experts will use 0.8 mg in men who haven’t had an ideal response and who do not have lightheadedness. I’d ask your doctor whether an increased dose might be better. Before considering another drug, be sure you avoid too many liquids at night, especially alcohol, and try voiding your bladder twice before bed to make sure it is as empty as possible. Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual questions, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. Readers may email questions to ToYourGoodHealth@ med.cornell.edu.

DEAR DR. ROACH: Apparently, it is common for older people to have balance issues. Do these balance problems usually stem more from muscular issues or inner ear issues? — E.M. ANSWER: It is often a combination of issues that lead to balance problems in older adults. Inner ear problems, where the organs of balance are located, are a major cause. However, balance problems are exacerbated by muscle weakness, vision problems, arthritis and medications, to name a few common ones. The body has many safeguards to keep us from falling. If the balance system can’t tell us our exact position in space, our eyes can, and the neurological system uses fine muscle control to keep us upright and safe. We can often do well even with one system not working properly. When multiple systems are affected, falls are more common. Improving balance and reducing fall risk often involves multiple interventions. One is working on balance directly. This can be achieved with home exercises; group exercises, like tai chi and yoga, which have the added advantage of increasing muscle control; or with a skilled therapist such as physical or occupational therapy. Making sure vision is as good as possible and staying on top of joint, muscle and neurological conditions will help reduce fall risk. Medications are so often the source of balance and fall problems that many medical practices (including mine)

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Make your holiday preparations one step at a time in order to avoid being overwhelmed and leaving things undone. That confusing family situation continues to work itself out. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) Ease this year’s holiday money pressures by letting your thrifty side guide you as you look for those perfect gifts that typically reflect your good taste and love of beauty. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) You’ll have a good handle on potential holiday problems if you delegate tasks to family members, friends or co-workers — most of whom will be more than happy to help out. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Right now you are especially vulnerable to holiday scams that seek to take advantage of your generosity. Best advice: Check them out before you send out your checks. LEO (July 23 to August 22) The upcoming holiday season gives the Big Cat much to purr about. Relationships grow stronger, and new opportunities loom on the horizon, just waiting to be pounced on. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) A changing situation brings conflicting advice about how to go forward with your holiday plans. Your best bet: Make the decision you feel most comfortable with.
LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) Holiday plans get back on track after some confusion about the direction you expected to take. A potentially troublesome money matter needs your immediate attention. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Your holiday preparations are on track. But you need to confront a personal situation while you can still keep it from overwhelming everything else. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Tight financial matters ease a bit during this holiday season. But the sagacious Sagittarian is well-advised to keep a tight hold on the reins while shopping for gifts. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) Don’t put off making decisions about this year’s holiday celebrations, despite the negative comments you’ve been getting from several quarters. Do it NOW! AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) The holidays will bring new friends and new opportunities. Meanwhile, be careful to use your energy wisely as you go about making holiday preparations. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) There’s good news coming from a most unlikely source. And it could turn out to be one of the best holiday gifts you have had in years. Remember to stay positive. BORN THIS WEEK: You are respected for your honesty and loyalty. You make friends slowly — but with rare exceptions, they’re in your life forever.

Sweeten the Season With DIY Chocolate Truffles 'Tis the season of gift-giving, and if you're looking for maximum decadence with minimum cost and effort, you can't beat chocolate truffles. This top-secret recipe yields the perfect two-bite indulgence with scrumptiously sophisticated flavor. Everyone will think you secretly went to France to become a chocolatier. Now, don't tell anyone, but chocolate truffles are ridiculously easy to prepare! That part can be our little secret. These little beauties are made simply by melting chocolate with heavy cream, a technique that results in chocolate ganache. Then you chill the mixture, roll it into balls and coat with your choice of toppings. The variations are limited only by your creativity. You can choose any kind of chocolate you desire (dark, milk or white) and add additional flavors and goodies as you wish. However, in a recipe with so few ingredients it's important to purchase the best quality you can comfortably afford. The better the chocolate — the better the truffle. But it's still luxurious when made with mainstream brand chocolate chips you get in any grocery stores. As for the cream, go full fat. The recipe doesn't turn out as well if you don't use heavy whipping cream. Can we talk about ganache for a moment? This is a weapon everyone should have in their culinary arsenal. Ganache is so versatile, by varying
