Prayer to St. Jude
Most holy Apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the church honors and invokes you universally, as the patron of hopeless cases, of things almost despaired of. Pray for me, I am so helpless and alone. Make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege given to you, to bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, particularly (your request) and that I may praise God with you and all the elect forever. I promise, O blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, to always honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to gratefully encourage devotion to you. Amen. R.R.

Look to Someone You Can Trust
HOLLYWOOD — Knopf Publishing has announced an upcoming memoir by Paul Newman that will cover his thoughts on acting, directing, family, fame, Hollywood, Broadway, love, his marriages, drinking, politics and racing. Newman, who died in 2008, began secretly writing his memoir in the ‘80s, and it recently was found in his Connecticut home, where his widow, Joanne Woodward, 91, still lives, suffering from Alzheimer’s. More than a matinee idol, Newman became a great philanthropist. Today, many people know him more from his picture on “Newman’s Own” bottles of salad dressing, pasta sauce, wine, etc., than from his films. Created in 1982, Newman’s Own has donated $600 million to charities. He was Oscar-nominated 10 times and finally won a best actor Oscar for “The Color of Money” (1987). But there was another side to Newman. At 18, I was shooting photos for movie magazines. Paul and Joanne were on Broadway in “Baby Want a Kiss” at a theater next to Sardi’s Restaurant. I haunted their stage door for photos, but he always said “No.” On their last day, as they went into Sardi’s for dinner, I handed him an envelope and watched him read it to Joanne. My poem read: Dear Mr. Newman, You’ve rarely been one of those who’d stand still for a picture and pose. “Take it on the run,” is what you always say ... so I do, and a blur is what I throw away. Mrs. Newman’s often difficult too. “Posing,” she says, “I never do!” “I’m a wife and a mother,” she always replies, and that always draws a couple of sighs. As a wife and a mother, she should get off the stage, why can’t she be nice, like Geraldine Page? She’s a wife and a mother, just like her, at least she stands still so I don’t get a blur.
Tony Rizzo
Candid shot of Paul Newman I followed you to your garage last week and heard you speak ... “Did it ever occur to you it might embarrass me?” But it’s part of fame, Mr. Newman, don’t you see. In all the time you take saying what you won’t do, I could have taken 10 snaps of you. Why can’t you have that old fashioned vice, instead of being disagreeable, try being nice. That night I ran after his car, and after saying, “Great poem, you’re a great poet,” he finally posed, and that photo accompanies this story. *** The next week, I encountered Joanne Woodward at Oscar rehearsals. “Don’t I know you from New York?” she asked. “Yes, I gave you the poem at Sardi’s.” “We loved it,” she said, “hung it in our basement and show it to all our friends!” Wonder if my poem will be in the book? © 2022 King Features Synd., Inc.
Alice I. Dodge, age 72, formerly of Batavia NY, and recently of Jefferson City, TN, went to be with the Lord on December 28, 2021. She loved gourmet baking and spending time with her nieces and nephews. Alice was devoted to the Lord and a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Rose Dombroski; brother, Robert Dombroski, and sister Mary Ann Orlando. Alice is survived by her devoted husband of 35 years, Peter Dodge; sister Rosemary Boyland; brother-inlaw, Jim (Wanda) Orlando; sister-in-law, Marge Dombroski; several special nieces and nephews and other family members. In lieu of flowers memorials are to be made to The Food Pantry of Dandridge, TN, 977 Industrial Park Road, Dandridge, TN 37725. A visitation will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Saturday, January 22, 2022 from 10:00am until 11:00am with a memorial service to follow at 11:00am. In consideration of the health and safety of all those attending the services, Farrar Funeral Home strongly encourages all CDC guidelines to be followed, including the use of face masks. (Never known to fail). O Most Beautiful Flower of Mt. Carmel, Fruitful Vine, Splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. O Star of the sea, help me and show me here in, you are my mother. O Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succor me in my necessity (make request). There are none that can withstand your power. O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3 times.) Holy Mary, I place this cause in your hands (3 times). Say this prayer for three consecutive days. You must publish it and it will be granted to you. Grateful Thanks. PK

MINI-STORAGE • On Jan. 22, 1779, famed Tory outlaw Claudius Smith meets his end on the gallows in Goshen, New York. Nicknamed the “Cowboy of the Ramapos” for his use of guerrilla tactics against Patriot civilians, legend has it that Smith’s skull was filled with mortar and included in the edifice of the Goshen Court House. • On Jan. 21, 1789, “The Power of Sympathy or the Triumph of Nature Founded in Truth” is printed in Boston, the first novel by an American writer to be published in America. Early editions did not carry the author’s name, but a later printing credited Sarah Wentworth Apthorp Morton. • On Jan. 23, 1855, John Moses Browning, sometimes referred to as the “father of modern firearms,” is born in Ogden, Utah. Many of the guns whose names evoke the history of the American West — Winchester, Colt, Remington and Savage — were based on Browning’s designs. • On Jan. 17, 1953, a prototype Chevrolet Corvette sports car makes its debut at General Motors’ Motorama auto show at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. The Corvette was named for a fast type of naval warship. • On Jan. 19, 1977, President Gerald Ford pardons Tokyo Rose, a Japanese-American woman named Iva Toguri, who broadcast Axis propaganda over the radio to Allied troops during World War II. • On Jan. 20, 1980, President Jimmy Carter proposes to the United States Olympic Committee that the 1980 Summer Olympics be moved from Moscow if the Soviet Union failed to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan. The USOC later voted to boycott the Moscow games. • On Jan. 18, 1996, Major League Baseball owners unanimously approve interleague play for the 1997 season. The owners’ vote, which called for each team to play 15 or 16 interleague games, broke a 126-year tradition of teams playing only within their league during the regular season. © 2022 Hearst Communications, Inc. Clean your computer inside and out Computers are significant investments and invaluable resources for school, work and recreational use. Many people use their computers daily for several hours a day. Computers are integral but not infallible. A concerted effort to clean computers every day can keep computers in top form. According to How-to-Geek, computer cleanup can flush disk space and free up valuable system resources. In addition to cleaning internal components, computer owners must clean the exteriors of their devices. These steps can keep computers running smoothly well into the future. • Store your computer the correct way. A computer that is positioned close to the ground may be exposed to carpet particles, dust, hair, pet fur, and more. These particles are less likely to get on or in the computer if it is placed on a desk. • Check fan vents and other ports on the computer for accumulation of debris. Computers may need to be cleaned more frequently in homes where people smoke or have pets that shed. Use a cleansing cloth and a can of compressed air to dislodge dust and other dirt. • Check internal systems. Some computer operating systems come with their own disk cleanup software that can help clean up system files, including fragmented files that not only take up space, but also cause computers
to operate more slowly. • Empty the trash/recycle bin. Files placed in the trash folder are not gone until the folder is emptied. • Check “auto launch” applications and modify. A computer can get bogged down by applications that launch on startup. They can draw on system resources and slow down the process of starting the computer. Review the applications in the startup list and limit to only what is needed. • Seek professional assistance. While some people can effectively open computer cases and clean internal components, newer computers are thinner and more streamlined than older models. Rather than risk damage, if a computer seems to be inefficient or running hot, take it in for professional cleaning and servicing. • Free up disk space. Photos and videos take up a lot of disk space. Consider moving larger files to an external hard drive, which also can serve as a backup for important files. In addition, uninstall unnecessary programs that you no longer need to keep on the computer. Deleting them will free up additional space and help the computer run smoothly. In addition to these tips, remember to use only products that are safe for use on electronics when cleaning monitors, keyboards and optical mice. Keep devices away from water and moisture as well.

Here's the stuff you'll need: — One pair of rubber gloves with cuffs in the quality and color you prefer, available at grocery and discount stores for a few dollars. — 1/4 yard of oilcloth or water-resis-
HERE'S THE FUN: Directions for one glove: 1. Trim off the edge of the glove and make the cuff shorter for a comfortable fit. 2. Cut fabric 4-inches wide by at least 18-inches long. If you prefer fuller ruffles, make it longer. 3. Let your child mark 2-inch intervals along the edge and then make small knife pleats at each mark. Pin and sew the pleats in place with stitches running close to the edge. Remove pins. Note: Once I got the hang of it, I created the pleats one by one as I sewed. 4. Bring the 4-inch edges of the fabric right sides together, pin and sew a 1/4-inch seam to create a circular, pleated fabric ready to attach to the glove. 5. Ease the pleated cuff wrong side out over the right side of the glove and pin in place. (I placed the 4-inch-long seam above the thumb side of the glove.) If the pleated cuff is too large, add another pleat. Remove pins as you sew 1/2inch from the edge. Turn cuff over the seam and fluff the pleats. Repeat with second glove. For extra pizzazz, use your imagination and items in your craft box to decorate the gloves with add-ons. A glue gun works quickly. *** Find more family fun at www.donnaerickson.com. How to account for a rising cost of living Metro
Cost of living is a significant component of financial planning. the cost of living may dictate where people live and work, and a high cost of living can influence how individuals spend their free time. Data from Statistics Canada indicates that consumer prices rose 4.1 percent and 5.3 percent in August 2021 in Canada and the United States, respectively. As Canadians headed to the polls in late September, a survey from Abacus Data found that 38 percent felt reducing their cost of living was a key factor affecting their vote. Similarly, a 2020 survey from tD Ameritrade found that 47 percent of Americans feel that cost of living is the biggest threat to their financial security and long-term investments. It’s worth noting that the survey was conducted prior to the pandemic. Since the onset of the pandemic, cost of living has increased considerably. though the fight against a rising cost of living can feel like an uphill battle, individuals can take steps to prepare for such increases. • Apply lessons learned during the pandemic. A recent Pew research Center analysis of U.S. government and eurostat data found that roughly 9.6 million workers in the United States lost their jobs in the first three quarters of 2020. that period coincides with the onset of the CoVID-19 pandemic. When forced to confront sudden and unexpected job losses, millions of in-
dividuals learned how to get by on less income. Cost-saving measures adopted during the pandemic can be continued or reimplemented, helping individuals to combat higher energy costs and other rising expenses. • Look for a new job or fresh income
streams. A rising cost of living is a concern for people from all walks of life, but it may be especially concerning for retirees or individuals with costs like childcare that can be hard to pare back. In such instances, individuals can look for new a job or fresh
income streams. According to the Q3 2021 CNBC | Momentive Small Business Survey, 50 percent of small business owners say it’s gotten harder to find qualified people to hire compared to a year ago. And nearly one-third of survey respondents indicate they have open roles they have not been able to fill for at least three months. Individuals can explore local employment opportunities in an effort to find a new, more lucrative job that can help them combat a rising cost of living. others who want to remain in their jobs can look for part-time work to supplement their existing income. • Consider relocating. The pandemic forced many companies to transition from in office working to remote working overnight. that trial by fire could have lasting results. A 2020 survey of 317 Chief Financial officers and leaders in the finance industry found that 74 percent will move at least 5 percent of their previously on-site workforce to permanently remote positions after the pandemic ends. the survey, conducted by Gartner, Inc., also found that nearly one-quarter of respondents will move at least 20 percent of their on-site workers to permanently remote positions. that could make it possible for millions of working professionals to relocate to regions with a lower cost of living than their current towns or cities. the cost of living might be on the rise. But individuals can combat that increase in various ways. MM21C515

SAY YOU SAW IT IN THE REMINDER
Now is the time to make money moves to set yourself up for a prosperous new year Jeffrey H. Massey Certified Financial Planner™ Massey and Associates, Inc.
As we start the year 2022, now is a great time to either start or revisit a strategy about your financial planning. this does not have to be a highly complex plan but a plan nonetheless. Let’s start with some basics and work our way up to a nice plan that you can structure on your own. of course, working with a financial professional should always be considered as they should have the experience to not just guide you in the right direction, but to kindly challenge some of your thoughts and ideas towards your saving and investment goals. Set New Goals and Make a Plan • Resolutions rarely last. Rather than setting lofty self-promises you might not reach, instead set realistic financial goals for yourself. once you set an annual goal, break it down to a dollar amount per paycheck. • Simply stating you want to save more or spend less isn’t specific enough. • Make your financial goals specific and measurable, set deadlines, track your progress, and hold yourself accountable. • If making a budget or saving for retirement feels overwhelming, ask for help! Sit down with a financial professional to review your goals. Rebalance Your Portfolio • As 2021 ended, the S&P 500 was up over 25% and since January of 2019, stocks were up over 77%! If you haven’t rebalanced, chances are your investments could be overweight, meaning you could be taking on more risk than you might be comfortable with. • Your investments should be diversified and have appropriate risk for your age. theoretically, the younger you are, the more risk you can take when saving for retirement. As you get closer to retirement, your risk level should come down. (Source: Forbes) (https://www.forbes.com/sites/kristinmckenna/2021/12/01/heres-why-it-might-bea-good-time-to-rebalance-your-portfolio/?sh=ad36fcb49bfe, n.d.) • If your account balance is down because of decisions you made during market volatility, now might be a great time to convert a traditional IrA or 401(k) to a roth IrA. • You will pay taxes on the money you convert, but you can withdraw your money tax-free in retirement. there are two rules: you must be
over 59 ½ years of age and the roth IrA must have been in place for 5 tax years. If you open a roth IrA prior to the tax filing deadline of April 15, 2022, and designate that deposit for 2021, assuming you qualify to do that, your actual start date for that roth account goes back to January 1, 2021! • A financial professional can work with you to rebalance your portfolio and hold you accountable to your plan when your emotions take over. Maximize Your Retirement Savings • The hardships of COVID-19 have left a lasting impression on how people view their finances. A recent study found Americans are 15 times more likely to build their emergency funds and savings due to the pandemic. (Source: Yahoo!) (https://news.yahoo. com/americans-are-saving-more-becauseemergencies-are-on-the-brain-175808179. html, n.d.) • Making contributions to your retirement fund every month is a good start, however, the real key to building wealth is maxing out your accounts or at least coming as close as you can. • You can contribute up to $20,500 in your 401(k) in 2022 (up from $19,500 in 2021) and up to $6,000 in your IRA. those 50 and older can add an extra $6,500 to their 401(k) and an additional $1,000 to an IRA. (Source: IRS) (https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/401kcontribution-limit-increases-to19500-for-2020-catch-up-limit-risesto-6500, n.d.) • The contributions you make to your pre-tax 401(k) account reduce your taxable income for the year. • By increasing your contributions, you will be taking home less money, but you will be paying less in taxes and saving more for your future! Actually, saving pre-tax money MAY Not be the best idea for your personal circumstance, so please meet with a professional advisor that has a taxfocus relative to your investment plan. Plan for Taxes • Tax planning is a year-round process and is necessary if you want to hold onto more of your nest egg. You can learn more about these and other planning strategies on our website, masseyandassociates.com. • Many tax saving ideas are specific to the calendar year, January 1st to December 31st. However, traditional and roth IrA contributions can be made prior to the tax filing deadline of April 15th, for the prior tax year. Determine if a pre-tax savings strategy is best or if post-tax (roth contribution) is better. Again, work with a qualified financial advisor that has a tax focus on investment planning. • Charitable deductions are allowed
up to $300 for a single tax filer or $600 for a married couple filing jointly. this is above the line, so, even if you don’t itemize, you are allowed to deduct these charitable contributions. • Another thought for charitable contributions, is to donate highly appreciated stocks. By doing this, you take the full market value as your deduction, not just the original amount invested. this is likely better than selling the stock, paying the capital gain, then making a cash donation. At Massey and Associates, Inc., our retirement planning process is precise and thorough. once we get to know our clients’ goals and current situation, we’re able to create a plan to help them make their dream retirement a reality. reach out to one of our advisors if you have any questions. Make this a Successful, Healthy and Happy New Year! Massey & Associates, Inc is an independent financial services firm that utilizes a variety of investment and insurance
products. Investment advisory services offered only by duly registered individuals through AE Wealth Management, LLC (AEWM). AEWM and Massey & Associates, Inc are not affiliated companies. 1166315 – 12/21
All investments are subject to risk including the potential loss of principal. No investment strategy can guarantee a profit or protect against loss in periods of declining values. Please remember that converting an employer plan account to a Roth IRA is a taxable event. Increased taxable income from the Roth IRA conversion may have several consequences including (but not limited to) a need for additional tax withholding or estimated tax payments, the loss of certain tax deductions and credits, and higher taxes on Social Security benefits and higher Medicare premiums. Be sure to consult with a qualified tax advisor before making any decisions regarding your IRA. Neither the firm nor its agents or representatives may give tax or legal advice. Individuals should consult with a qualified professional for guidance before making any purchasing decisions.

No Excuses! You Can Eat Healthy on a Budget Happy New Year! If you're like millions of people, you've just made resolutions to improve your health and finances. First — good job! What we eat and how much we spend on food are two areas of our lives where we have control. You can't easily change your mortgage or car payment, but you can adjust your food choices and expenditures starting today. I've heard every excuse in the book about why it's impossible to eat healthfully on a budget. Here's some tough love from the Diva: I'm too busy! Instead of saying "I'm too busy," say "I don't make it a priority to provide healthy meals for my family." How does that feel? We all have the same 24 hours in a day, and we make time for what's important to us. If your schedule is so packed you can't feed yourself, it's time to rethink your obligations. I never know what my schedule is going to be. Meal planning is essential for those with erratic schedules. Plan "busy day" meals by cooking extra on the weekend. Use the crockpot in the morning to have meals waiting at the end the day. If you're all on dif-
401-946-9900
ferent schedules; stock your freezer with single portion, healthy meals available on demand, like homemade soups and casseroles. Healthy foods are too expensive. Inexpensive foods that offer a powerhouse of nutrition should be the bulk of your diet. Here is a list of healthy foods that cost under $1 per serving: Whole chickens, canned tuna and salmon, eggs, plain yogurt, peanut butter, beans, lentils, brown rice, oats, whole-wheat pasta, sweet potatoes, kale, cabbage, salad greens, carrots, apples, oranges, bananas, frozen vegetables, frozen berries, almonds, black and green teas, coffee, sparkling water.

Healthy foods under $1 a serving I don't know how to cook. Like to eat? Well, learn to cook. While you're learning, teach the whole family. It's the greatest gift you can give them. The world is awash in recipes and tutorials on TV, online and in old-fashioned cookbook form. Cooking all the time is overwhelming. I feel ya! It isn't fair for one person in a household to do all the cooking when everybody eats. Delegate cooking and cleaning up afterward to other family members when appropriate.
Even a toddler can help put dishes in the dishwasher. Cooking from scratch takes too long. If you have time for fast food, you have time to cook food. Gather a handful of simple recipes that take 20 minutes or less and keep your pantry stocked with ingredients to make them. Take a little help from the store by purchasing precut veggies, or rotisserie chicken. I don't have time to clip coupons. Good! Don't. Most coupons are for name-brand processed foods anyway. And often store brands at regular price are still cheaper than name brands on sale. My family only likes fast food and convenience foods. If your child was going outside and eating dirt, you'd stop them, right? Well, stop them from eating foods that damage their health. Food choices are important. Every bite we consume creates the building blocks from which our bodies grow and repair. We literally are what we eat. You may need to gradually wean your family off the junk while introducing healthier options, but their health depends on it. Do it. Make your financial and physical health a priority in this new year. Cheers to a fresh start and another chance for us to get it right. *** Lifestyle expert Patti Diamond is the penny-pinching, party-planning, recipe developer and content creator of the website "Divas On A Dime — Where Frugal, Meets Fabulous!" Paris Porcelain Paris porcelain is often a mystery to collectors. Sometimes it is sold as Vieux Paris or Old Paris. It was made in the 18th or early 19th century. Most pieces are not marked, but the porcelain is very white and the decorations are usually elaborate with many colors and gold trim. It was made by several different Paris potteries.

A 19th-century cylindrical Paris porcelain vase decorated on the front with a painting of Cupid and Psyche sold for $244 at a Neal auction recently. There was standing putto on the back, and the vase had a blue base with gold shaped trim. Other pieces of Paris porcelain at the same auction were appraised at $600 or more. *** We found one of our old family cemeteries in Casey County, Kentucky, and we want to clean several head or foot stones. We want to be able to read the stones and identify our folks to help put our family tree together. Any suggestions on a safe product or procedure?
Q: January 3, 2022
1. Who released the 1960 pop song “Where or When,” which reached No. 3 on the Billboard chart? 2. Which band wrote and released “More Than a Feeling”? 3. What happened while “Smoke on the Water” was being recorded? 4. Who released “An Old Time Movie”? 5. Name the 1961 song that contains this lyric: “You’re with me tonight, I’m captured by your charms, Oh pretty baby, won’t you hold me in your arms?” Answers 1. Dion & The Belmonts. The song originated in 1937 in the Broadway musical “Babes in Arms.” It has been widely covered, including by The Beach Boys and Carly Simon. 2. Boston, in 1976. It took the main composer, Tom Scholz, five years to complete. 3. Deep Purple was recording in a casino in Montreux, Switzerland, in late 1971 when someone shot a flare gun at the ceiling during a Frank Zappa concert. The entire complex burned to the ground. The group ended up recording in the halls and stairways of the nearby Grand Hotel. 4. Scott McKenzie, in 1967. 5. “A Thousand Stars,” by Kathy Young and the Innocents. Young, who was just 15 at the time the song climbed charts, was inducted into the Doo-Wop Hall of Fame in 2014.

A:
Make sure the stones belong to members of your family before trying to clean them. The first rule in cleaning an old cemetery stone is “do no harm.” Don’t try to clean a stone if it’s unstable, broken or cracked. Don’t use a wire brush or bleach. Use a dry nylon brush to carefully brush away some of the dirt. If more is needed, you can use water to clean the stone, but you may have to bring it with you. A spray bottle filled with water is a convenient way to rinse the stone after you’ve cleaned it. Don’t try to clean the stone if the weather is too hot or too cold. Using cold water on a hot stone can cause cracks to form. If the weather is too cold, water can get into cracks in the stone and cause more damage. There are special products that will clean stains from mold or algae. Check the website www.CemeteryConservators UnitedStandards.org for more information. *** CURRENT PRICES Movie poster, “Caddyshack,” paper, pictures Chevy Chase, Michael O’Keefe, Rodney Dangerfield and Ted Knight, autographed by Chase, O’Keefe, Dangerfield and Bill Murray, 1980, 16 x 11 inches, $70. • Generally, for every degree you lower your thermostat during heating season, you reduce your energy costs by 3%. • Just in time for soup season (and my new year’s resolutions), here’s a great fat swap: Drain and rinse 2 cups of white beans and puree with a cup of no-sodium vegetable broth. You can use this as a thickener in place of heavy cream for soups and stews. — JoAnn • To keep snow off your windshield, use a flannel-backed tablecloth stretched to cover both windshield and wipers. Put it flannel-side to the glass. Then you’ll be able to lift it (and the snow) off your windshield to drive. • Wondering what winter fruits and vegetables are in season? Here’s a sampling: apples, dates and pears, as well as citrus, like grapefruit, oranges and tangerines. For vegetables, consider endive, bok choy, Brussels sprouts, kale, leeks, mushrooms, parsnips, radicchio, rutabagas, sweet potatoes, turnips, yams and winter squash. • “Want to keep your pants from creasing on the hanger? Grab an empty paper-towel tube and slit it down the side. When you slip it over the bottom of the hanger, it creates a wide curve for the pants to lie across, and no more crease!” — M.U. in Colorado • Remember that as temperatures drop and layers of clothing increase, children in a car seat need special consideration. Remove heavy coats before strapping in a small child or baby. Winter wear can compress during an accident, and it interferes with the straps. wave of this persistent pandemic, life moves forward as it always has, filled with all its complexities and challenges. In the busy law firm of Roy & Cook in Coventry, Attorney Geralyn Cook has been witness to many of these life moments, and over the course of the thirty years she has been practicing law, she has played significant roles in many of them. On any given day, Attorney Cook can be found pouring over briefs, reports and documents before running out to court to advocate for her clients. Sometimes, it is those big milestone moments that she is tackling, and other times, it is the mundane stuff that make up the “bread and butter” of law practices such as hers; the kind of day-to-day stuff that matters a lot to the people she calls clients, and friends. Perhaps it is a task such as settling a dispute on a will when no beneficiary was established. Perhaps it is a big task like negotiating the terms of a divorce or fighting an eviction. Attorney Cook cares about them all and gives them each their allotted share of attention, time, work, and professional counsel. Roy & Cook is a general practice law firm that has been representing clients from every walk of life since it first opened its doors in 1991. Attorney Cook

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) A hectic period begins to wind down. Take time to draw some deep breaths and relax before getting into your next project. A long-absent family member makes contact. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) You’re eager to move forward with a new challenge that suddenly dropped in your lap. But you’d be wise to take this one step at a time to allow new developments to come through. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) You’re almost ready to make a commitment. A lingering doubt or two, however, should be resolved before you move ahead. An associate could provide important answers. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Caution is still the watchword as you move closer toward a decision about a new situation. If you act too fast, you might miss some vital warning signs. Go slowly and stay alert. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Your new goal looks promising, and your golden touch does much to enhance its prospects for success. In your private life, Cupid does his best to make your new relationship special. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) That impatient side of yours is looking to goad you into moving before you’re ready to take that big step. Stay calm and cool. Let things fall into place before you act.
LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) A legal matter you hoped could finally be settled could be a pesky problem for a while, until all the parties agree to stop disagreeing with each other. Be patient. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Partnerships — personal or professional — which began before the new year take on new importance. They also reveal some previously hidden risks. So be warned. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Your associates are firmly on your side, and that persistent problem that has caused you to delay some activities should soon be resolved to your satisfaction. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) Favorable changes continue to dominate, and you should be responding positively as they emerge. Someone wants to become more involved in what you’re doing. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) A friend wants to share a secret that could answer some questions you’ve wondered about for a long time. Meanwhile, travel aspects continue to be strong. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Stay on your new course despite so-called well-meaning efforts to discourage you. Rely on your deep sense of self-awareness to guide you to do what’s right for you. BORN THIS WEEK: You have the capacity to meet challenges that others might find overwhelming, and turn them into successful ventures. © 2022 King Features Synd., Inc.

Who plays Kurt Warner’s wife in the new film about his life? I saw a commercial for it the other day but missed the actress’ name. She looks so familiar. — O.S. “American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story” was released in theaters on Christmas Day. It’s a feelgood flick about the Super Bowl-winning quarterback who stocked shelves at a grocery store before making his way to the NFL. Zachary Levi (“Shazam!”) plays Warner in the biopic that was filmed mostly in Oklahoma City. Anna Paquin plays Kurt’s devoted wife, Brenda. At just 11 years old, Paquin won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in “The Piano” opposite Holly Hunter. She’s been thriving ever since, playing Rogue in the “X-Men” films and starring for seven seasons in the HBO vampire series “True Blood.” Next up for Paquin is the Netflix family film “True Spirit,” in which she’ll play the mother of a teenage girl who sails solo around the world. *** I’m surprised there hasn’t been a sequel to the holiday movie “Elf.” Hollywood usually wants to capitalize on a big hit. Do you think it will stay that way? — J.K. “Elf” has remained a standalone movie, but it’s not for lack of trying. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Will Ferrell, who starred in the 2003 film, turned down a $29 million paycheck for “Elf 2” because he didn’t feel the script measured up to the original. However, Ferrell might not be the best at predicting box-office success because at one point in filming “Elf” he thought the movie would be the end of his career. Instead, it turned out to be a mega hit and has become a holiday classic. Most recently, Ferrell took on a dramatic role in the Apple TV+ series “The Shrink Next Door,” and is wrapping up filming “Spirited,” a musical retelling of the Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol.” *** I was pleasantly surprised to see Tom Hanks in the new

Anna Paquin “Yellowstone” spin-off series. Do they have any other big names slated to guest star? — K.W. The new Paramount+ series “1883” already had an impressive cast with country music stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill headlining the new Western series. Then they announced the addition of the always charismatic Sam Elliott (“The Ranch”) to the cast. In the second episode, if you did a double-take during a Civil War flashback scene, you weren’t alone. Yes, that was movie star Tom Hanks playing famed Union Gen. George Meade, simply doing his friend McGraw a favor by filming a cameo for his buddy’s new show. “1883,” the prequel to the massive hit series “Yellowstone,” starring Kevin Costner, follows the Dutton family on their journey through the Old West to Montana. The show’s premiere was the most viewed original series for the streaming service Paramount+, with new episodes dropping every Sunday.
