CENTRAL COVENTRY FIRE DISTRICT
ANNUAL MEETING NOTICE CENTRAL COVENTRY FIRE DISTRICT Pursuant to Section 3 (b) and (c) of the Charter of the Central Coventry Fire District (“District”), the Annual Meeting of said District shall be held on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 6:30 PM at the Coventry High School Auditorium in said District. The Annual Meeting is for the purpose of: 1) Electing a Board of Directors; 2) Authorizing the assessment of all the taxable personal and real property of the District; 3) Authorizing the collection of taxes, as further set forth in Section 6 [of the Charter]; 4) Authorizing an annual budget for Fiscal Year 2022 to provide for the purchase and maintenance of equipment, apparatus, real and personal property, the payment of wages and salaries, and for such other expenditures deemed necessary by the qualified voters of the District; and, 5) For such other lawful purposes deemed necessary and proper by either the Board of Directors or qualified voters of the District. By Order of the Board of Directors. Fred Gralinski, President
There are 3 types of people: Ones who make things happen, ones who watch things happen, and ones who wonder what happened. Just a few years ago, a lot of people wondered what happened when the Central Coventry Fire District went bankrupt and was taken over by the State. After wasting millions of Taxpayer dollars, the Newly Elected Board fixed the financials and other woes of the District; Stabilized taxes, and brought fiscal sanity to your district. Now, an election is coming up and the firefighters’ supporters are vying for control of the Board again. If this happens, the District will return to its bankrupt condition because there will be no one to advocate for the Taxpayers. When the District went bankrupt, it was because of lucrative and financially unsustainable Firefighter contracts and complete mismanagement with no regard for financial responsibility. The Hill Farm Station Rescue was staffed 100% on overtime. The District hired more firefighters using a Government SAFER Grant with no plan to compensate the firefighters when the funds ran out. The Fire Chief allowed this to happen. The Board members were complicit in the mismanagement too. Read Judge Stern’s May 17, 2013 decision (posted on www.ccfdri.com) when he FIRED the then-Board because they had: “(i) borrowed funds from the Centerville Bank through a credit line to pay operating expenses, (ii) failed to remit employee contributions withheld from their pay to the Municipal Employee Retirement System and, instead, using those funds to pay operating expenses, and (iii) failed to pay bills as they became due, including health insurance premiums for the employees.” Read Judge Stern’s February 12, 2014 decision (also posted on www.ccfdri.com) when he ordered liquidation of the District as the only option. Then the State took over, making things worse by removing local control. So many people were left wondering what happened. Don’t let this be YOU.
